I only played a little, but the FFB is different than FM5. I was running 50,60 and 70 ffb. The return spring feels too strong. Overall it’s still good I think. Will be playing more tonight
To use clutch in game, leave the ingame mapping to say clutch pedal is ebrake. They are backwards in the demo.
Just from the short amount of time I was able to play this morning, I love it using the wheel, but it’s a lot harder to control as well. Gonna be getting back on in a few and try it out more. Right now though, it looks like I’ll be playing Horizon 2 with a controller.
I would give it some more time. I didn’t find it difficult, but it just doesn’t feel as good as fm5, and FM5 is already kinda below standard for FFB protocol as it is. Hopfully with some more tweaks, and more time with the game it will be more enjoyable.
This is just the demo as well, could be different in a few weeks when the actual game is here.
Used controller on first run, now TX wheel. Wheel brought it totally alive for me- excellent sense of speed. Loving it.
Sim steering still too much for me though…
I found using the wheel tricky at first but altered the DOR to 540 and it felt a lot better when I got used to the physics. I did think about going back to the controller but glad I stuck with the wheel. Just need to get the T3PA Pedals, now they are back in stock. I was not planning on getting this game as I was not a big fan of the first Horizon but the handling feels so much better this time round with the wheel.
Did the first opening race with the lambo with all the stock settings, wheel felt great (but a little loose, too easy to turn). After that race I picked the Bowler and changed the settings to sim steering, traction control off… made it kind of difficult to handle. I think I’ll stick with the TX instead of a controller, but I might stay with sim steering and traction control on.
@odi0n - I did the same process I use for FM5 - from the home screen plug in the wheel, then start the game from the wheel. When the racing started in FH2 - the wheel just worked for me. Do you have multiple people logged into the Xbox? If so, maybe there is a problem pairing the user with the wheel?
As for the feeling - it’s only OK for me. My biggest gripe is that the wheel doesn’t feel smooth like FM5. The wheel in this game feels a lot more like the Logitech wheels I’ve played Playstation Gran Turismo games on. There is a lot of (what seems random to me) shaking of the wheel around center. It doesn’t really affect the driving - it’s just unnecessarily annoying and doesn’t really feel realistic. While the physics are good - there is still a definite “arcade” feeling with the physics.
As with the last Horizon game - I’ll probably use 270 DOR exclusively as I find it to be the easiest for recovery from the inevitable bumping, controlled drifting and off-road, low traction driving.
I also played through the demo with my TX wheel and was disappointed in the lack of road response/feedback. In FM5 you can tell exactly what is going on with the car as far as traction goes, different road surfaces, etc. In Horizon 2 it just feels like there’s an adjustable center spring. I agree with other posters’ comments that the driving style is very “arcady” vs. what you get with FM5 as well. This is precisly why I barely played Horizon 1 on the 360. Hopefully the force feedback will improve with the actual release in two weeks. Graphically Horizon 2 is beautiful, and my shifter for my TX is arriving tomorrow so here’s hoping the wheel control improves!
Spent a good 3 hours just driving around the world with the Thrustmaster TX. Initially I played the game with the controller, and then rebooted the game and played with the wheel. I’ve gotta say: stick with it. At first I would have agreed with many of you, the FFB was significantly stronger than in FM5 and there was a lot of what seemed like needless shaking around the centre. But after just letting loose and practicing, it’s unbelievable how much the wheel enhances the experience compared to the controller. I think a lot of the shaking can be attributed to the fact that you are moving a lot quicker, and not necessarily moving as carefully along a paved path as in FM5.
Anyways, it was incredible. Just kept thinking to myself “this is as good as it gets”. Truly felt like I was sitting at a kick ass arcade machine with the open road in front of me able to drive to my hearts content. Even just following drivatars around, driving carefully up the coast… crazy how beautiful the game is and how satisfying the freedom feels. Definitely wont be replacing FM5, but compliments it perfectly. Pretty sure at one point I was a child again.
I was worried about using the TX on Horizon 2, because tbh. I thought Horizon 1 wasn`t good with the wheel (CSR at the time).
Turns out its great. I actually I like the FF better than on Forza 5, for the very reason some of you brought up as negative, the "shaking". This makes it feel more alive to me, and theres a huge difference between surfaces, clean tarmac doesn`t rumble much, old cracked tarmac rumbles more, offroad rumbles your hands off.
I like both equally, driving with the controller and with the wheel. The first is more relaxed, the later more involved.
As with Horizon 1 it almost feels like different physics, especially offroad. Its insane how much you have to work with the wheel offroad, while with the controller its quite easy.
Initial thoughts are that it feels solid, responsive and gives a good sense of speed.
One gripe i would like to mention is at times it tends to wobble/shake making the car hard to control; sometimes resulting in a spin. (car used - Audi RS3)
Would be nice to hear other peoples opinion on this. I have been thinking it maybe a dead zone setting (ps. this also happens on FM5 mainly when using 4WD cars)
Other than the above i have an absolute blast on the demo, going to try a different car tonight!
As stated above by others. At the beginning with the lambo the steering felt loose and disconnected. Once I got into the rs3 I turned tcm and stm off and set it to sim steering with 100% ffb and vibration.
It’s now awesome! Still have abs on but sim steering really makes the cars come alive!
I’ve found the ffb to be much better in Horizon 2 compared to F5. A lot of effects seem to be missing in F5 so was very happy when I tried Horizon and found the feedback to be similar to what you get on a PC racing game. As soon as I got in the Lambo I turned all Driving aids off which brought the feedback alive, I’m very happy and October 3rd can’t come soon enough!
My problem is that I noticed the shaking the most on regular tarmac. I’ll need to spend some more time playing to get a better sense - maybe it’s not as bad as my initial impressions.
I’ll certainly get plenty of opportunities since I love everything else about the game!
Well, I just got done with a 2 hr stint on the demo. As usual, everything set 0-100. I ran 100 for both vibration and FFB (any lower FFB & cars didn’t feel right to me). I also ran 270° of rotation.
Now, I do like how the wheel preforms on this game. I was whipping around in the EVO with ease. I drove/discovered 41/41 of the roads in my session as well. Along with the few events you can do, 1 bucket list as well. Plus dabbled in online free roam/races also.
Now this is what really impressed me. I NEVER LOST VIBRATION IN THE WHOLE 2 HR SESSION. On FM5, after racing 45 mins or so, I would lose vibration for about 10 mins. Then it comes back on its own (running vibration 90 FFB 85). Vibration not disappearing put a big ol’ smile on my face, for sure. Which means come November, I shouldn’t lose vibration in that other game either.
I was actually impressed with FH2 using the TX. The game was kinda fun however, I seriously doubt I will buy a game that is Arcade. I’m just extremely happy that after 2 non stop hrs, I didn’t lose my vibration.
