FFB for Thrustmaster TX is now *incredibly good*

I realize there’s a huge FFB thread, but I wanted to post this for any fellow Thrustmaster wheel users on PC.

Turn 10: Please don’t mess up the FFB - it’s pretty much perfect right now

The FFB since the Oct 3 patch is now even better than it was in FH2, and vastly better than what’s in FM5/6. I raced for so long yesterday that my left leg feel asleep. That has never happened. The game is simply awesome right now. And that’s coming from a very picky sim racer who spends most of their time finessing setups in Assetto Corsa and rFactor 2

All we need now is a way to adjust degrees of rotation in-game (making it per-car would be perfect).

My settings (TM TX wheel):

  1. Be sure to update to the latest drivers on the Thrustmaster website.

2. Degrees of rotation (in TM control panel):
900: Older cars (muscle cars, etc)
780: About right for a wide variety of cars, especially newer high-performance ones, but also hot hatches etc.
540: Group C/GTP/prototypes
420: Open wheel/F1

When setting DOR, you basically just want to reduce it enough to “dial out” most of the center numbness. But if you reduce it too much, the car becomes difficult to control (especially when counter-steering vs oversteer, where you will tend to over-correct if the DOR is set too low).

  1. In-Game settings:
    Vibration: 50
FFB Scale: 50 (FWD/AWD cars) to 65 (RWD cars)
    Steering Sensitivity: 100
    Steering Linearity: 50
    FFB Understeer: 100
    FFB Minimum Force: 100
    Wheel Damper Scale: 10
Center Spring Scale (absolutely critical): 100

With these settings, I now have FFB that is the best I’ve ever experienced within the Forza franchise. It feels very similar to what we had in FH2.

Are you using last Thrustmaster driver (Package 2017_TTRS_5) available since yesterday? Redirecting...

I’ll have to look. I just downloaded new TM drivers 2 days ago, so perhaps not (not at home right now to check). Assuming for the moment I am not running these latest drivers, I’d be extremely reluctant to change anything, because the FFB is fantastic right now.

This is coming from someone with a lot of time spent in all the hardcore sims like rF2, AC, AMS and R3E. FM7 does a particularly great job simulating street cars, which is something my other sims struggle with. My fellow sim-racers tend to look down on FM7, but IMHO the vehicle dynamics and FFB are both top-notch. I’ve got over 30 years of actual racing (in the 80’s, SCCA regionals) and track days (since 2011) to go by, and FM7 is definitely in the same league as AC when it comes to depicting car control. I’d say the only sim that feels a bit more realistic is Raceroom, but it depends on the car. One car that is horrible in FM7 is the Porsche 911 GT2RS - It’s an oversteering mess. Something must be screwed up with the suspension geometry - it feels like an old car with big toe changes during suspension movement. Yikes.

My benchmark in-game is the 2010 BMW M6. I used to own a 2006 M6 (2010-2015) and I know exactly what it felt like (it was an incredibly easy car to control, but tended to be a bit nose-heavy and understeered as a result). The FM7 simulated M6 drives exactly like my M6 did. I can close my eyes it really does feel the same - especially in the wet (I tend to remember that more, since it was rare to be sliding the car around otherwise).

FFB with my TMX feels weird now, when going around corners, the FFB kicks in reverse and pushes the wheel in the opposite direction.

Using TTRS 5 driver.

Thanks for this thread. After weekend I will be able to report how these settings works for my 300 wheel. So far I noticed that using “normal” steering instead of the “simulation” helps me most. But still hoping to play with the simulation. Looking forward to these settings plus new driver set.

I had a T X leather edition delivered on Friday and spent a couple of hours setting it up or trying to, along with assembling a cockpit and setting up av (it was a big day) so your settings will prove to be invaluable. I’m racing from the console but hopefully the settings will be close enough. Can’t wait to hit the track. One question though, are you faster using the wheel or the game pad? If I can get close with the wheel I’ll be happy. Early days though.

The last time I used a gamepad for driving was F1 2011 and GTA V. In FM6, I was in the top 1% of every competition I entered, using the TX wheel, simulation steering and zero aids. So, you should be fine

If you are used to playing forza with the gamepad, it will take some practice to get to the same laptimes.
I’ve been driving no-assist with sim steering with a gamepad since FM2.
Now bought a TX leather edition, really enjoying it even though still playing around with the settings. Will give these a go today.
Hotlapping I can get within a second of my gamepad times, with loads of room for improvement.
Most complicated still is correcting the car when an AI driver bashes into the back. With the gamepad it is quite easy to recover, with the weel I am ending up in the barrier more.
But the whole driving experience and enjoyment is a whole lot better with the wheel, and I’ve put over 500h in all Forza games from FM 2, including the Horizon titles, playing with a gamepad. So loads of fun ahead.

Impossible. Sim Steering was first put in the game in FM4.

Yep, finally read that properly in the big thread with the massive amount of info. Changed it, re-configured the FFB and updated my settings posted earlier.

Really? First time in FM4? Thought it was in there before, my mistake I guess.
Is it actually working ok-ish for the controller in FM7?
Any timeline on when it will be fixed for the wheel?

Thanks for dropping in with the drop outs btw.
Once I’m comfortable with a final setting I will post it in the main wheel / ffb thread as well.

I am very slow still with the wheel. One afternoon of practice and I am improving though. As far as adrenaline and engagement goes the wheel wins hands down. Just need to practice more. I find keeping FFB at around 40 is working ok, I’m sure I’ll tweak more as time goes on. Great to hear that it’s possible to be as fast or faster.

I am running the latest driver, in the TM settings 900 degrees and FFB on 75%.
The 900 degrees also in game on all cars.

*edited due to new info / reading the info available properly / playing couple more hours.

!! Normal steering !!
(somehow missed the bug in the ffb in sim steering with wheels thing before)

Vibration: 50
FFB Scale: 40
Steering Sensitivity: 100
Steering Linearity: 50
FFB Understeer: 5
FFB Minimum Force: 85
Wheel Damper Scale: 5
Center Spring Scale 0

Thx for sharing, know its quite good but assetto corsas ffb is unbeatable for me!

Installed the latest Thrusmaster drivers. My opinion is that game feels pretty solid now. Though still have to keep steering as ‘normal’, hopefully someday Im able to switch it back to ‘simulation’. Every now and then car spins quite easily on sim. setting. Even I think it shouldn’t do that

Sim Steering isnt for wheels. Sim Steering isnt for wheels. Sim Steering isnt for wheels.
It introduces a bug. It introduces a bug. It introduces a bug. It introduces a bug. It introduces a bug.

Lol… okay okay, maybe I believe that there is a bug in sim steering. But does bug also mean that it is not meant for wheels? If there is a bug, how you know that only gamepad users should use that? Not knowing all the backgrounds but I would say that normal steering is better for wheels as of now (because of bug). And if the fact really is that normal mode is meant for wheels, then in-game help texts are misleading or naming should be done otherwise.

Shouldn’t be spinning unless you’re a lead foot on the gas. With my TMX I use sim steering and I have 50-65 sensitivity and 45-50 linearity depending on the car and my wheel is set to 900 degrees. All assists off of course.

Thx for the reply. Not every car is spinning but most difficult ones. Eg. demo car, Porsche 911 2018 and then Mazda MX-5 white convertible (can’t remember my right now) which I found quite difficult to drive. Need to test drive more but in my opinion, there is a clear difference between normal and sim steering. Even it was said in other thread that both should behave similarly with wheel. Though it was also mentioned that sim steering might have a bug in code.

Xbox or PC?

Mind posting the rest of your settings. Always wanting to try what others are using.

Sim steering works fine on a gamepad.
In a perfect world, that option would never even present when a wheel is detected. It would solve all the problems there.

Timeline for wheel fixes is unknown. Im positive Aaron has more pressure on him then the gentlemen @ 20000 leagues under.
