In the years upon years of playing this game since launch, I’ve been pretty disappointed with the car list. Of course, there’s around 900 cars. However, I’m not talking about the vigorously copy-pasted cars developed for the older titles and simply brought over, nor the cars taken from us at launch and patched in as a “new” car. (THREE years waiting for my GTO Judge to return, with nothing added or even improved. thanks guys. Better late than never I guess.)
I’m talking about the cars specifically released for Horizon 5. It’s terrible. Not every car that’s been added is terrible, and there have been a few cool additions (the VW Pickup LX and Plymouth Belvedere come to mind) but aside from those and modern cars that would be expected to appear (Nissan Z, Ferrari Roma) there’s really no cars that have come to FH5 that I would really have wanted to see added to the game, much less I even recognize or care about.
Until now. The JDM Jewels car pack, alongside the VW SP2, VW Thing, and new Miata RF are all cars I’m unabashedly stoked to see. Even the mere sight of my years-long desired Autozam AZ-1, Mitsubishi Pajero, and Nissan Stagea had me gasping so hard I choked.
FH5 has conditioned me to expect cars I rarely will care about. Cheap Chinese trash, bland electric SUV slop, and the occasional soon-to-be-forgotten supercar startup that threw enough money at Microsoft for the exposure. I know it really isn’t that big of a deal in retrospect, but having cars that I have been DYING to see added to the game actually come feel so surreal.
Here’s an analogy about how I feel: It feels like I’ve been walking past a man handing out flyers for years. Every time I pass him, he shoves a flyer into my hand, usually about something I don’t care about or want. Rarely, he’ll give me a flyer with information that somewhat impresses or interests me, but that’s a rare occurrence and I typically forget about it anyways. Well, this guy just handed me a huge duffel bag of cash.
I know how ridiculous I sound, but I don’t care. I needed to get this off my chest. I doubt it will stay this way, but PLEASE, Playground. Keep this kind of car selection up.
