Something needs to be done about the atrocious state the trial has been in for the last few months.
I’m sick of having to repeatedly attempt to join because the game decides that completing a weekly task isn’t really important. Only about 1 out of ten attempts to start it actually get to the matchmaking option. The counter just disappears often with about 2 seconds to go. I’ve tried just leaving it thinking perhaps it is just the counter, but even after 10 minutes it won’t join. Then when I actually do get in about half the time it drops out after the first race.
Then there is the driving. It is bad enough with kids barreling into to every corner at warp speed taking everyone out, but now the drivatars are doing that, as well as shepparding blue team cars off the track or into barriers. Turning as hard as they can from one side of the track to the other to take people out.
This is an absolute disgrace. PGG should be ashamed of themselves.
Yeah it has become a real wreckfest, from both teams, and i would say team red is the worse of the 2. Its like the really aim to do as much damage as possible to everyone around them.
I did last week’s Trial on the first attempt then had to try again 9 more times to get to the 2nd race.
The way this game + it’s predecessor handle the Trial/seasonal PG is just rubbish, I can’t remember playing another game online that has a countdown just until it will start searching for a session, every other game instantly matches people up and then when everyone is ready/lobby is full that is when it begins it’s countdown, that is also much shorter than the up to 3 minutes this game supposedly needs.
Are we supposed to believe that in 2018-now a first party system seller underneath the beautiful graphics is actually so limited that it’s incapable of instantly putting 6 people in a lobby together?
Over FH4 + FH5 I wonder in total just how much of our time has been wasted on those 2 modes either because of the waiting, the counter just sodding off for no reason making you search again and wait all over again, being randomly disconnected like wasn’t uncommon in FH4 and the game kicking you out after the first race in FH5.
My counter often vanishes if I fasttravelled to the event instead of having driven to it or launching it via the Playlist (Trial).
One can only hope Horizon 6 will run on the new ForzaTech engine bringing the game’s structure into present time.
As I said in the thread for last week’s Festival playlist, it took me nearly an hour before I was able to join the Eliminator because I was constantly being disconnected; and even when I’m not trying to participate in some online event, I’m more frequently disconnected than not.
When the Festival playlist includes the Tour, there’s a good chance it’ll take me multiple attempts to join a session. When the playlist includes an HA, I’ll wonder whether I’ll even see one.
As far as the Trial is concerned, I’ve not heard a good thing about it in my time on these forums. I did do a couple of them for that brief period of time that someone of my C-level talent was able to put up a decent showing against the drivatars, but it all seems to have gone downhill since then.
NB. Spelling tip of the week. The word is “effectively”. (Sorry, I can’t help myself.)
The game booting players out after the first race is a new bug, introduced seemingly over the last few months. It’s a particularly annoying one as you only find out if it’s going to happen after the first race.
If you do encounter that, quit the game completely and it should work fine when you re-start (if you don’t quit, my experience is that it will do the same thing each time).
I don’t have any particular issue with the trial timer. I check the requirements, decide what I’m going to use/download a tune if needed and go and do some PR stunts if I’ve still got time. If it took you straight in, I’d guess you’d have even more people in untuned cars etc.
The approach when you join online racing and have to pick a car and then be stuck in a completely empty environment, incapable of doing anything other than drive around aimlessly, until the ongoing race has finished, is far more annoying!
Must be a console thing. I’m on a PC and have zero issues with playing the Trial. I enjoy the trial so do it multiple times. Quite fun to be on a losing team and have to all 3 events rather than winning the first 2.
Actually affectively broken is grammatically sound, though it might not be what the OP is trying to communicate.
If the trial is affectively broken, it would be malfunctioning in a way where the core experience is intact, but it has an emotional impact (like annoyance) that ruins the experience to the point that it changes one’s motivation to participate in it or not.
If the trial is effectively broken, it would mean that the trial does not work enough times to the point where it passes an acceptable failure rate threshold. Still technically works, but does not effectively work.
I’m on PC and had this problem with Horizon Tour and Open a few weeks ago, but it righted itself somehow. I haven’t tried either since, but I might try some Horizon Open later today and perhaps even the Trial to see whether all is well. The Trial. Oh dear, the things I do in the name of research.
Fortunately I haven’t experienced getting kicked after the first race (maybe it’s a console-only bug), but I’ve had the timer randomly disappear on me every once in a while. And you’re dead right that the actual driving experience is usually a nightmare. It’s bad enough that your average teammate is completely brain-dead, but the AI now seems determined to actively punt you off the road. Last week’s street Trial was the first one I’ve straight-up failed in ages, mostly because of the chaos that ensued. In the final race a traffic flatbed truck managed to get turned sideways across the entire road, which blocked half the field, and because it happened right in front of a checkpoint I was basically forced into missing it. You can’t make this crap up.
Sad but probably true. If i take crossplay off my xbox i never get many people in a playlist, and crossplay only disable steam, and we know steam has less than 10k a month who plays. And if i lose half of the the people by disable crossplay then it should be around the same nr that play on xbox and pc🤔
Does it only disable steam? I’d guess it would disable steam and only match make for people who have also turned cross play off, which I guess not many people do.
It took me a few attempts to get onto a Horizon Open session, but not ages and ages. In the first race, there were five of us, but only two of us finished. The other two races had fuller lobbies, but it appears that in each of those races, a couple of players did get disconnected. I managed to complete all three events without any issues.
I did the Trial, which took a couple of attempts on each occasion (I quit the first time after missing a checkpoint) before I was able to join a session. Again, all three races done. Since I do the Trial so infrequently, I can only report that the racing was all clean – at least what I could see. There was some weird drivatar behaviour down Copper Canyon, but perhaps one of the players ahead of me managed to launch the lead drivatar into oblivion. I’ll note, though, that it helped to be at the front of blue team at the start of the race.
If we’re talking about the ropey connection affecting game play, the custom paints and vinyls tab is currently dead.
