Back in the day of Forza 4, I used to play Tag (Virus) as a little fun mode to kill an hour or so. It was relaxing, as you were able to earn credits at a reasonable rate, and you were not yelled at for accidental contact.
The other day, I went back on to the mode on Forza 6 for the first time in about a year, and was I in for a surprise! There were six (yes, six), people drag racing, two more people in an apparent glitch, and then there were about 3 more people trying to attempt to play the game properly as well as me, which made a total of 4 out of 12. This is the equivalent of 8 people in a 24 player S-Class race ramming! And then, when I attempted to stop the drag racers, all they did was yell at me for ruining their “race”. Unsurprisingly, when I threatened to report them, all they did was threaten me back!
I understand it is a “minor” game mode and that it was one lobby out of hundreds, but I still believe that it should be respected. No wonder why the rammers go on the “normal” lobbies, since their “dedicated mode” is like this.
Anyway, apologies if their has been a post similar to this, I just felt like I needed to make my point clear enough. I have the names of the intruders should anyone wish to find out more. Cheers!
I play tag (virus) often in Forza 6, and its very easy to see the points you’ve just made. And it’s not just one out of a hundred lobbies in this situation, it’s probably at least 75% of them. I consider it a miracle if I find a tag match with all the players actually playing. I don’t think it would be a ban-able offense though, but I wish it was. Sometimes I think to myself that they accidentally hit tag instead of drag racing because they’re right beside each other . I say in just about any tag match, 1/3 of the people are either drag racing, ramming each other, or just not playing. That’s another problem, the amount of inactives. I honestly don’t get it. If you’re not going to play, get off or press spectate if you’re busy. There’s been times I’ve chased a guy for a solid 35 minutes because the other 6 drivers were inactive or just screwing around. The one other driver actually playing was like level 5 and could barely even brake his car. Actually, yesterday I chased a blue Lamborghini around for 20 minutes in the same situation. It gets outrageous. I get that chasing the same guy for a while can get boring, but when he’s farming XP and credits off your laziness you need to chase him down. I don’t get why they don’t have an automatic kick for being inactive more than 5 minutes, I think that seems reasonable. Also, if someone starts out it and they’re inactive, the match will probably last an extra 5 minutes because obviously no one is going to make themselves it. About the glitches, there are usually 2 or 3 players a game who are ghosts and have no part in the game, but they’re there. But that is a technical issue, not a player issue. I don’t see why one of the Turn 10 Staff just go on there once and a while and clean out the ones who play tag solely for drag racing.
It’s a shame really, as back in the Forza 4 days, it was a fairly decent game mode as far as I can remember. It’s got the potential to be brilliant, but unfortunately, it’s been completely butchered by people refusing to play properly (which would result in a ban on the “normal” lobbies).
This ^ Horizon has the platform for multiple maps, game modes, and a more entertaining atmosphere. Motorsports is really just not built for tag, which is why it is so problematic at the moment
Really ashame, because motorsports isn’t really focusing on motorsports lots of compromises to casual player so to see the issues in game modes, is a bit surprising to me.
I really didn’t do many game modes in either title.
Even if the main focus is motorsport, what’s the issue of adding playground gametypes? I understand Horizon uses playground more effectively, butthe arcade feel of the game takes away too much from the realism. I enjoy FM4 style but with tag. It doesn’t all have to be about race alone. I enjoy the challenge of controlling the car but while dodging other people too. Little kids are still going to buy and play this game even if it didn’t have tag. They would just go into the race lobbies and wreck people. I see the playground modes useful for this because it channels the unsporting players into the playground.
if they are using the correct public lobby to play the correct race type then they could give you abuse. but because they aren’t and they don’t have much of a case of what they would report you on ?
if someone tried to play tag on a normal race people would get the grumps too … lol
There’s so many easy things they can do to bring it back to life. If they just make it available on more tracks and have weather, add a kick timer that boots you for being inactive, and just send an admin every once and a while to enforce that this is tag, not drag racing, it would definitely fix most of the problems and it could be playable…
tag is the only way to really enjoy drag racing. I have done this allot but in private lobbies… don’t understand why they use a public one? if 8 dragsters want to drag race on test track with a time limit just open up a private one and choose ‘‘tag’’ as game mode and then set the time to whatever you want… no need to ruin others game just because there isn’t a good game mode for drag racing…
Edit: we do the same when we want to drift on the test track. allot of fun
I don’t really understand how the drag racers in tag virus lobbies know when they’re all supposed to start racing…Do they wait until the next minute mark? Anyway, drifting isn’t that harmful to tag virus because you can still play while drifting…but drag racing is a whole different story. I would like a Moderator’s point of view on this topic, so let’s keep the thread going to attract attention .
When I play Virus, only 1 out of 3 times will I see drag racers. Sometimes, they’re there and sometimes they are not. I don’t really see an issue with this if we can just leave and go to a new lobby. There’s usually between 5-10 lobbies running at once and I usually find decent ones without drag racers. Either way, it isn’t a big deal if only 6 of the 24 are drag racing. I mean, these people do have the freedom to do what they want.
The whole drag racing thing shouldn’t really be a concern since it is a minor issue. The real question is: Why is the test track the only area tag is available, and: why aren’t there tracks we can tag on or why isn’t there DLC for new areas? I play tag 100 times more than I race because people slide into me on accident.
First off, yes there definitely should be more tag tracks, and I think adding rain and night to it would make it even better. However, I see drag racing just about every match I go into, and quitting the lobby and joining a new one takes about 2-3 minutes because half of them are on the Open Space map and those matches last around 8 minutes. And in a typical 24 person match I say about 4 of them will leave, 6 will be drag racing, and at least another 3 are just inactive. That leaves you with only 11 or so players actually involved in the game. I honestly just don’t understand why T10 never put a thing where it automatically kicks you for being inactive…they have it on race modes why not tag?
The drag racers need to go into drag racing lobbies, I so wish turn ten would kick people who did that for an hour if they do, I’m so sick and tired of the idiot drag racers, if you want to drag race, GO IN A DRAG RACING LOBBY
In their defense, the drag racing game type in Forza isn’t very good for actual drag racing. There is a severe lack of a need for reaction times, which is normally critical in drag racing. Also the load times between races are kind of long and boring.
Not that you should go into a public lobby of a completely different game type and race like that there…but I can see where they may want to setup a private lobby like this.
The drag racing does need improvements, it’s basically load in, go full throttle, and launch and hope your car is faster than everyone else, but like you said down at the bottom, doesn’t mean they can’t set up a private lobby and invite people, honestly, people who want to do that sort of drag need to post on the forums, “hey, I’m going to set up a drag lobby at so and so track, if you want an invite, post on this topic.”
It seems to me that you think people are having “fun wrong,” if you don’t like it, don’t play it, it’s good that they added something a bit different, probably about 90% of my gaming on forza is tag, because circuit is full of wreckers who can’t race, drift is full of trolls with SUVS, and drag is about full throttle launch and hope that someone misses a shift
Hmm, how would you feel if you had your favorite mode taken out of the game? Exactly, you wouldn’t like it that much would you? I mean, I don’t like drag all that much, but should it be removed in my opinion, absolutely not, and if tag was removed, I bet it many people would be up and arms about it, you clearly take the game way too seriously and think it should be “only stuff you can do in real life,” just because you hate it, doesn’t mean that it should get ruined by a bunch of drag racers
