This whole thread is what I was saying on launch to people who were giving this game a 10/10. Theyre all not playing anymore and were the ones still playing a buggy iteration of the previous title. They have fixed a good amount and some of the new seasons seem to show theyre listening to a few things. They seem to be favoring more engaging events rather than the same template season after season.
Im still pretty upset about the state of custom route editor after being demoed for so long in the last title, Coming to the new one with virtually no significant technical changes. Think of Halo 3 Forge to Halo Reach. Its still lacking placeable start/finish which, despite them adding an edit post published feature which should have always been there, Im not sure if they even plan to add it. Unlike Horizon 4, the vanilla layouts are not very compelling, Whats worse is that the start locations are completely nonconducive to developing alternatively better tracks.
But yea, the nonenthusiasts will always settle for mediocre if the graphics look new and shiny.
This game is as a whole as good as 4. But a 10/10 game it is most certainly not.

The game is missing a lot of content from FH4 like the businesses which added some game time and gave you daily payouts. The menus are worse so you have to keep pressing buttons to navigate to the next row (wheels and upgrades menu!!). And there are no more championships, just single races. That too cuts the overall reward you get in this game.

This game is in a very comfortable position right now and is arguably one of if not the best game on gamepass. Gamepass itself continues to grow which subsequently helps FH5 to gain new players.
In other words they can basically do whatever they want or as we’ve seen do as little as they want and the game will continue to chugga a long quite nicely.
Unfortunately it is what it is…

The game is optimized for casual players on GamePass. Almost all of the racing enthusiast crowd is long gone. I expect FM8 to follow the same formula. I think there’s zero chance the flaws in FH5 will ever be fixed. I suspect Microsoft wants to maximize near-term revenue by investing as little as possible to keep FH5 “good enough”. I enjoyed Horizon and Motorsport series up until now, but I won’t buy future versions of either.

It’s good that you’ve found a good way of letting the players request features for the game. I hope that some of these features do come to the game, but I guess it all depends on how easy it is for PG to implement them.

just a little funfact
don’t know who is responsible for the FH pricing in steam PG, T10 or Microsoft but they have the opinion FH4 has more value than FH5 for whatever reason

Steam aside, that’s overpriced for FH5. Buying it makes no sense when it’s free on Gamepass. Players are way better off using the money for a Gamepass subscription.
Sure, $10/month makes much more sense than buying it for $50 (US prices). Who’s going to play it for more than 5 months, right?

The important difference is Gamepass gets you hundreds of games instead of one. It’s enough to keep people entertained for years instead of getting bored with one overpriced game after a few months.

Yeahhhhhh… I like the Horizon 2 map (I played the game when it came out btw), but it’s suffocating as someone who likes rally and offroad, it just isn’t as interesting as 3, 4, or 5. There’s a lot of Rose-Tinted Glasses going on here, because it’s been almost a decade since that game came out. If you, having never played a Forza, played FH2 and Fh5 now, I’m pretty sure you’d think the newer one is better (yes the dialogue is a little dumb, but there are so many options! They just need to keep the nerfed wheelspins that they have now and you have that grind everyone is so desperate for back)

I’ve played FH2 after 3 and I think it’s got a better map than both 3 and 5.

Well that isn’t really anything surprising is it, the 2021 game simply should be better than the 2014 one.
Rally + Offroad aren’t as good in 2 because there was barely any onus on it for the series back then, rallying was only introduced in a DLC for the first game + wasn’t part of the Colorado map and FH2 was the first time CC was a race type, you can’t hold it against FH2 as if PG could have produced the same standard as now with many years more experience with dirt + CC races.
I gave up on FH4 towards the end of it’s life and went back to 1000G FH2 in the meantime so I’m not looking at it through nostalgia, the whole vibe of FH2 is so much more fun without reaching ridiculous like 5’s is, the map gives you a much stronger feeling of being in France/Italy than 5 does with Mexico and the bulk of the game still revolves around racing + road trips (even if they do become repetitive after the umpteenth drive to Sisteron).
It just felt so much more grown up in it’s approach and attempts at immersing you in it’s world. than the past 2 games, I absolutely hate the fact I was actually glad to hear Ben again but compared to 4 + 5’s cast he’s borderline likeable.

So got to respect anyone giving an honest opinion. Whether it’s positive or negative
I do however want to throw my support for FH5, I love it. In many ways its the most refined game in the series.
I know a lot of people on the forums feel likes it’s losing it’s way, but I’ve yet to see a game series that didn’t have some splitting of it’s hardcore base as it grew. Sometimes popularity has that impact.
I actually think that game is staying more faithful to it’s core values and essence than ever. The game was always meant to be about freedom and just hitting the road (or -off) and having no boundries, FH5 accomplishes that perfectly. Many of the changes to FH5 over past games are about letting more people have and share that feeling.
It’s the highest selling game in the franchise, has the best metacritic scores, brought in players that may never have touched a racing(driving) game. I love FH2’s map but it’s also ok for older games in the series to have their own flavour and stay special as well as the newest games evolving in different ways.
I guess my message is, if you feel like FH is losing it’s way, maybe take a break from it for a bit and come back after a while and just try enjoy it for what it is. We need to keep making the right criticisms, I think PG do their best to listen, but it’s also important to understand that some things are very personal preference orientated. That’s hard to manage with millions of players.
(sidebar PG if you did FH1 and FH2 maps in FH5 as DLC…I’m totally cool with that)
I agree it is getting worse but probably for different reasons than most. I find Mexico uninspiring (sorry), the roads are boring to drive and the weather is dull. You have not been able to hear the rain on your car or the wet roads under your tyres much since Horizon 3 and the Trulli Train which follows you over the line annoys the crap out of me and reminds me of the old PC game centipede (Motorsport are much better with all these). However the main reason i am falling out with Horizon is probably one of the main reasons most buy it i guess and that is car tuning. For me ALL stock level cars should be as per manufacturers guidelines on top speed and acceleration you should then be able to tune the car within reasonable limits. I first got these games as an alternative to the brilliant Test Drive Unlimited (it is on PC anyway), for me Horizon has never matched the game play or got any where near the map size but more available classic cars and improved graphics meant it was worth going with Forza. But now it is all about tuning, the seasonal games want everything tuned up to S1 or S2 level, with test drive you looked at the starting grid and had an idea which cars would be hard to beat. On Horizon it is now just arcade silliness with 100+ miles per hour Peels, Isettas, Mk1 transits etc, Regal vans which corner like F1 cars and even when you race S1 or S2 cars you have Toyota Hilux or Morris Minors etc lined up next to you. The thing is they just look silly, you know they are not that fast but more to the point they look like a race sequence from an old movie like Herbie where they used to speed up the film footage to make the cars look like they were racing faster. Also most over tuned cars tend to have wheel wobble when you are playing solo, even Lewis Hamilton would not be able to keep them on the road. I drive in the cockpit and hate seeing a speedo clime to full speed but the car then continues to accelerate, it is so arcade like now the realistic looking cars are becoming pointless because very few race in a realistic manor. It started off like Test Drive Unlimted as an open world racing game but it’s now more arcade racing which is just not for me in the same way as i would not want a Battle of Britain flight sim where i could tune up my Supermarine Spitfire with jet engines and air to air missiles. Although if that ever did happen it would bound to be called Forza Air Superiority Combat Sim. Sorry folks i’m just a boring old f**t who likes realistic racing games

Is this a giant joke? of course i didnt bother to read after this sentence. Did you even play FH3 or even FH4?? because it doesnt seem the case lol. Refined?? dude. FH5 is basically a copy/paste of FH4 and most mechanics are WORST, not better. Seriously check what game are you playing again… lol. I dont think its the same than us.

Yes, it is difficult to make “perfect” game but PPG isn’t a noob dev.
from what i have seen & fh4 was my 1st taste in the series it was very enjoyable.
I went out & bought a xbox to play the older titles including FM, i enjoyed it.
From what i can see it’s a Progressive game title, Don’t mess with what works & try to add something more. That’s the way i see FH series.

fh5 is a progression of things of all earlier games. Also with game pass makes things somewhat more difficult. personally i think GP is making things worse when it comes to the top tier games.
Top tier games shouldn’t be GP forever, do some thing like 3 months on, then 3 months off to get sales.
I buy “play anywhere” games, That is the Best value
I think the game is great, but flawed due to glitches. For example, I can’t do seasonal races coop at all, except for the Trial, because I get disconnected every time when the car choice screen pops up.
I don’t care that they made it easy for casual players to collect things.
I think the upgraded tire physics makes the driving more realistic and even the tuning is not as gimmicky as in 4.

Yeah that’s the main issue for me the seasonal championships cant be done in co-op which has been yet another known issue solved support ticket languishing in the bottomless pit of things they don’t fix.
