I felt I needed to say something about this after recent chats with a couple of friends. We all seem to agree that there are some issues with Forza and it’s direction at the minute, but I wanted to post a positive to balance some of that out as it’s a very important positive for me.
I bought the LE console being the Forza addict I am, which came with the special controller. The colour scheme and design are nice, but i was more interested in the diamond grips underneath. They wrap around under the “arms” of the controller and give your palms much better grip.
It’s a nice thing to have sure, but for me it’s essential. You see last year I severed the tendons in my left hand in a rather nasty accident, which on top of neurological spinal damage left me with a left arm/hand that was practically useless. Holding things was difficult, and manipulating things too. Both things are still very difficult and I can’t even play Keyboard and mouse anymore.
But with the grips on the LE controller I can hold and more importantly play Forza and other games using the controller. With the assists in Forza, some of which i’ve had to turn back on after getting rid of them. But that I can still play Forza (Even with it’s faults. lol) says something about their level of commitment to getting EVERYONE playing the game. I’ve been a Forza fan for years, and have been disappointed by some things, but the fact I can still play it weighs against that. Some games I’ve had to give up completely because they don’t support some features, but with some games it obvious why.
So to Turn 10 as a whole, I love the franchise, even though some things have disappointed me. But your commitment to assists and making sure everyone can play is truly a good thing, and if it wasn’t for that, I wouldn’t be playing Forza any more. Thankyou guys.
I waited for a proper Forza game to come out before I got XBone, and wouldnt you know I got the LE for it too. As happy as I am of my purchase there’s just one problem that has recently come up. My right trigger makes a scratching sound now, I can only guess that the spring is out of place, and its annoying.
I think that’s a common problem with the standard controller. Mine started squeaking after about a month of use and then the right bumper stopped working soon after. Got the Elite controller and that works like a charm, for now.
Mine as well. Also I just found out that when you turn the xbox, on and off, it’s supposed to make an engine sound. Lol. I never knew that. Mine, since I got it on release date, makes a sound more like is scratching a cd inside, even when there isn’t one in it.
I am so pumped,I have had one on order for the last 3 weeks!!
Here in the UK they are as rare as hens teeth. Can’t wait to get playing with this beast.
Yeah, I want an elite to help with my left hand issues, but they’re out of stock everywhere. lol
Also, they don’t do one in the Forza controller colour scheme. lol
Reading the OP’s post made me thankful that about 2 weeks ago I put a brand new Leatherman tool into my left hand and cut it between the index & thumb. Just the szme size as the blade. But, I didn’t do any permanent damage other than pain.
With my hand bandaged and stitched it made it really hard to hold the controller for any length of time. And I stuck to mainly playing ghost leagues until this week. And it did teach me a few things that have seemed to help me out some with braking.
And I came to a thought that people that do not slow down at the 1st corner have bad left hands!!!
Hope your hand and body is healed again. And I know all about nerve pain/numbness as well. I have them too, & it is no fun and people do not understand how bad it works on you mentally and physically. Especially Physical Therapists!!
I had a large sheet of mirrored glass slice through the back of my hand and sever all the tendons. I didn’t even know i’d done it until everything turned red. I already had issues on my left hand side due to spinal damage, so i couldn’t feel it. They delayed operating because they thought it was superficial, and when they opened up my hand they discovered the glass had sliced cleanly through all the tendons except for my thumb one. So now i’m using a few assists like ABS to help with braking and with practice i’ll be able to improve somewhat i’m sure. But yeah, count your lucky stars people!
Physical therapists have been quite good for me, but i left their unit having provided them with a list of gaming charities, devices and games for disabled people, including Forza! There aren’t many games that actually think about less abled gamers. So any that do derserve some credit for that. I don’t care if they just wanted to let young kids play, and it’s a happy coincidence that helps other. They include it as an actual feature not an afterthought, and many other developers could take an example from that. Not all games are suitable for assists, and online makes things tricky too, but there are many games that could include it. Much as I hate it, the new Battlefront game includes 3 different colour blind options, which is great, shame about the game, but we can’t have everything! lol
Like I said, not all games can include disabled options by their nature. That’s just the way it is. I can’t go rock climbing anymore, I can’t play certain games anymore. But those that do include concessions deserve some kudos for doing it. I don’t think any dev should be reprimanded for not including options like that, it’s a very niche thing to support and takes some considerable time and research. But those who do, I tip my hat towards!
@VerrucktSchakal I was thinking about that, but i’m not sure how well it’d turn out with my hands! lol. Does anyone know if the faceplate is the same size? I could at least swap that over maybe.
I felt like I just knicked my hand too, instead of puncturing it. The admissions Lady at the Urgent Care office said that I was about 6th or 7th person she had admitted since Xmas that had some kind of cut due to opening a present. And half of those came from
people with brand new knives because they do not require the same force that your old dull knives did. So be careful folks it easy to do!!
And thanks for postimg this it has really made me think differently about the assists in the game! I use the TCS in the Cam Am cars sometimes because I have a far too heavy right index finger lol!!
Yeah i use TCS on the prototypes and high class cars, but usually i’m pretty good with the right trigger. Just awful these days with the left trigger! lol
And yeah, lots of people getting new sharp toys or openeing that dangerous plastic packaging that can slice a cow in half, and you nearly take your fingers off with it. So yeah, be careful out there guys! lol
You couldn’t swap faceplates between standard and elite because the elite has a button that switches between 2 programmable settings between the menu and back buttons, aside from that it is the same size
I too have issues with dexterity so raced with many of the assists including auto box and far away camera view but invested in the ‘‘Elite’’ now race with tcs only and now use cockpit view. The Elite gives you a better feel and the impression its build quality gives you is you can use it more forcefully which in turn improves your driving. However far too often I still hear on these very forums too much criticism for using assists so before having a go understand many people who use assists are either just learning the game or have physical problems or disabilities and really don’t need the criticism aimed at them. They are just trying to enjoy the game they love just as all you able bodied non assist using racers do, in fact we would love to have no assists turned on and race manual with clutch as we hear so often how much faster you can race using this set up, but we can’t no matter how much we pray, wish it wasn’t, so please cut the next assist user you race against some slack we just want to race like the rest of you.
I ordered a package with the elite controller and skull candy earbuds from GameStop in stock . You can actually return the earbuds separately but I kept them.
The controller is great with smoother feel and good for gripping. The thing is I can’t use the paddles in the back because I’d rather grip the controller with those fingers than try to change gears with them. I ditched the triggers. I still like the controller but I wish they had a little cheaper version without the back triggers and I’ll bet that version would sell even more.
I ditched the paddle triggers also, I think they are too sensitive and makes it difficult to hold the controller firmly, but i like the sturdy feel, and the longer option stick helps me a lot to keep the car stable through long sweeping curves, I have tested all different sensitivity settings, but the “normal” still feels best for me.
I agree, I need to death grip the controller sometimes and this feels 100% better than the stock controller. Using the longest stick is best. I use the “delay” preset setting on the controller and can use simulation in forza . It isn’t a time delay but a flatter input/ output curve at the beginning which makes it less sensitive to small twitchy motions made toward the centerline. Takes a little time to get used to it.
