I have only been working with Forza for about 3 weeks. I have been trying out the vinyl editor, but have come across a situation that is causing some frustration. Basically, the textures applied to the front surface of the car appear to be poor resolution and come out highly pixelated. The car I am working with is the Charger Daytona. The headlights are strangely mapped into the front surface rather than the top/hood. But the front surface seems to be of greatly degraded quality.
The pinstripes around the headlights could use some adjustment, but with this level of pixelation, I don’t think there is anything I can do to actually make it look good. Is there a game setting that will use better textures, or a method to specify high-definition texture applied to all surfaces? The resolution of the vinyls applied to the top and sides looks great, and everything is crisp. Why is the front such a mess?
Did you try drawing the image really large? The bigger you draw something the higher resolution it should be. For example if you draw human figures zoom right in on the finger nails, and draw those in detail, now you get an HD type picture.
The size you make an original image in the editor has nothing to do with the resolution of the vinyls when placed on the cars. All vinyls are rendered at the same resolution, only the size will change once you place them on the car and shrink it back down to the normal size. The only small advantage you may have by doing that is that it’s easier to line up angles and straight edges accurately when creating a larger vinyl group … but that has nothing to do with the resolution of the vinyls.
If you drew a picture from large squares, and shrunk it down it would now be made from small squares, that’s the same as changing the resolution. So I could see shapes that looked like the standard shapes in the game in the image, so I just thought that the image was made from large, basic shapes instead of small basic shapes. Isn’t the game supposed to be HD?
Thanks guys. The geometric shapes used to construct are scalable outline forms, so they are resolution independent. The game engine internally renders them to a bitmap before applying it to the car surface. It is the resolution of that internal bitmap that is the problem. I was hoping that there was some setting that could be set to Ultra or something that would improve the resolution of the livery. It seems that user-defined liveries are all applied at a lower resolution than the native ones that come with the game. It is just particularly bad on this surface. Partially due to the low resolution of the internal bitmap, and partially due to the oblique angle and irregular surface shape it is project on. So far, it does not look like there is a solution, so I changed the design to omit this particular feature.
