After 2 Community Bounty Hunters where I failed to win the car, I’ve had it, lol… I’ve heard people say they’re too hard or consolation prizes should be given, etc. I don’t agree. The answer is to get better, and that’s what I’m going to do. Gonna take the leap and turn off all assists. Mind you, I’m pretty fast on some tracks. On Prague Full in A class I’m 524 on the leader board not using a ‘leader board car’. I use manual trans but without clutch and no stability control but I have ABS on and traction control. I’m very curious how much quicker I will be with clutch, ABS off and trac off. Any guesses? Maybe I can be a case study. I’ll certainly report back. Hopefully this will encourage more to leave the lifesaver on the boat.
I was ready to throw in the towl on FM4 before i turned of the assists. I have gone from not being able to break into the top 1000, to being able to get the odd top 100 here and there. I deffinately got faster turning the assists off.
I still have the braking line on sometimes though. IM slower with it off, but it is definitely more immersing when you turn it off.
Turning off the assists really isn’t that big of a deal.
All you really need to do is pay attention to those rumblers that are on the triggers.
The ABS is the easiest to get rid of, when the brake pedal starts to vibrate you are just beginning to loose traction. You might have to turn down the brake pressure setting so it isn’t as easy to lock em up.
The TCS is the hardest to get rid of as it is going to be very easy to slam the gas to the floor as usual; then spin yourself out. It takes a very smooth application of the gas on high HP cars and proper gear selection. Other things like staying off the curbs under acceleration and the faster you get your car pointed in a straight line the faster you can mash the gas.
In Forza4 I was battling to get into the triple digits but didn’t quite make it when 5 came out. I think I ended 4 in the 1024th place. Now with Forza5 and the additional rumblers and the in depth of feel that it gives me, my driving has improved and am now trying to better my 43rd place hardcore standing.
Forza5 is so much better than 4 it is unbelievable. Well, the driving part that is.
The race line isn’t officially an assist so ”whatever” on that.
I’m doing the same thing as you. My big problem is going from auto tranny to manual w/ clutch. I need to learn how to find the shift points in cars and not get confused on shifts in corners. I mean hell I drive a manual every day, it should be easy right? Well that’s what I thought. Not so much lol. I get so flabbergasted trying to shift, turn, speed up/slow down I thought I was going to cry (not really).
I think I need to just pick one of my favorite c/b/a cars and just find a nice circuit and run like 50 laps to train my brain.
My next goal after that is advanced tuning. Dialing the cars into specific tracks more, swapping out stability for power when needed, and so on.
I am going to master this game or die trying. Ok maybe not, but I sure will get a lot better.
have you reconfigured your controller to make “A” the clutch? Took me a while to figure that one out.
As for learning in just the one car, i did just that. I raced in nothing but the Lotus Elise on FM4, untill I really got the hang of no assists. I just had to put up with an inbox full of people whinging about me using an LB car lol. I bought the game and ill drive what I want.
The main thing I would say is use whatever assists make the game enjoyable to yourself. You hear people whinging about others using the racing line, or TCS, but at the end of the day its your game to be enjoyed how you like.
Im sure ALMS use TCS now in real life, so if its good enough for them…
Yup, remapping the A button was the first thing I did. I know I’ve seen some folks on the LB using TCS, ABS, or sometimes both. My plan is to use what I need to go fast. So if that means turning TCS back on then I say let the people whine. ABS on the other hand I haven’t used since I started playing the game. Up to this point it’s just been an auto tranny with TCS for me. I don’t really count the brake line because based on the car in the tune I mostly just use it as a guide till I get a feel for the car. I love these new controllers.
It’s weird, I’ve never really gotten into Forza this much before. Forza, especially Horizons, has always been that casual game I go to in order to turn some laps and have some fun. This is the first time I’ve ever wanted to enhance my skill.
Oh man that bothered the hell out of me till I saw this tid bit about a week ago. Throw in a controller update I had never gotten and everything was just amazing.
Now I do have a question for y’all now that I’m thinking of it. The rear of my cars tends to snap loose when I down shift. I’m thinking it’s because I’m down shifting to early or going to far down in the gears. Thoughts?
This happens in my RWD cars. Springs and roll bars are usually a bit softer then their base settings, rebound is usually stock with bump pretty soft. Diff is usually about 20% accell and 10% deccell. Breaks are roughly 55% front balance with 110% or so in pressure.
