This has Prob been covered a thousand times so I apologise in advance. ABS is the only assist I’ve yet to shake off so just looking for some tips/pointers.
Use the controller rumble to your advantage. That’s how I learned. It takes a bit to get used to it. Drop brake pressures below 100. I’ve heard people saying that helped. I learned at 130-150 which probably wasn’t a good idea in hindsight.
I’ve heard this also. How do you go about this? Game settings or tuning setup? Thanks
You have to put race brakes on a car to change pressures. As for rumble you’ll learn the feel when brakes are close to locking up. Takes a bit to remind yourself not to button smash lol.
braking deadzones, 100 and 0
Do like Swerve suggests. Go in free play and choose one of the catalunya tracks since it’s go lots of turns. Lower ur pressure down to about 80 percent and start practicing. It will take sometime to get used to it so be prepared for slower laps and plenty of brake lock ups. In time you will get it under control
why turn it off real cars have ABS including racing cars all this nonsense about turning off all assists is crazy you would not get in a 458 or lambo and turn off traction control well not if you wanted to get out of the bend alive even f1 cars of today still use a form of traction control and braking dampers, just check out the full build of a merc that’s why they pay people like Newey lots of money
As ERS JOHNSON has pointed it out, it’s a videogame. In this, the virtual world, there is an advantage to shedding assists and doing so does wonders in helping to make you a more skilled and competitive virtual driver. In short: play the game the way you want to play and don’t try to push your real-world reasoning onto others who are merely looking to get better at Forza.
That said, here is general automotive discussion for conversations regarding things outside the virtual realm. It may be more up your alley.
Simply put I’m not in a real lambo or 458. I’m playing a video game. 99% of people will be faster with abs off. Turning ur assists off bring more challenges to an already challenging game. There is a valid argument on why not to turn tcs off due to how fast tcs can make u go with power builds. Personally do what u want but the OP was asking for help on how to transition off of abs so we are giving pointers.
Why? Because its a game and will likely never be realistic in that regard. You’ll be faster for the most part with it off. It also makes the game a challenge and a bit more fun. It also makes hotlapping a good bit harder with tcs/abs off. Found new respect for several players based on what they’re able to do.
The FIA banned ABS and any form of anti skid systems in the 90’s. They also banned traction control and launch control in 2008 I think it was. Reason being it takes a more skilled driver to drive fast without computer aided assistance. Also a skilled driver can brake faster without ABS. depending on the type of traction control system a skilled driver can also accelerate faster without it.
As for in forza a skilled driver can drive faster without ABS and TC. The very nature of how TCS works in the game slows acceleration by lifting off the gas when the wheels spin. A skilled driver can take it right to the edge and a little beyond and accelerate faster than with TCS on. Same with ABS, the nature of the brakes pulsing to avoid locking makes the car take a longer distance to stop. Once again a skilled driver can take it right to the edge and brake faster without ABS. aside from all that it just shows you have more skill if you can beat players using assists while your using no assists. I personally started driving with no assists after I got good at gran turismo 1 back in the 90’s. Haven’t used them in any racing game since.
I personally would totally drive a 458 or lambo with no traction control. I Might not do that great at first but I’d get the hang of it. The stig usually turns off all assists possible when running a hot lap for top gear.
I hear what you saying BTR BOSH. I went through Forza 3 and 4 with everything on except auto gears. (Think I tried it with everything off for a few laps, quickly defecated my virtual race suit). Decided to give it a good go with Forza 5 and haven’t looked back. I’m getting so much more out the game. Managing to keep a Z4’s [Mod Edit - Abbreviated profanity, profanity and profanity that is disguised but still alludes to the words are not permitted - fyerball ] in line through a power slide just gives you more satisfaction without TCS. Fire one of Mr. Johnson or Worms tunes on the car and it’s happy days. That’s just my opinion though.

Misread post so i deleted response
I quickly realized that when i turned ABS off that my transmission began to do more work in slowing me down by simply letting off the gas… Now that i have ABS turned off, i use the brake much less than when i had it on. weird, but its the truth. It does still take practice. When i had ABS, i never learned how to properly use my left trigger in moderation, i just always mashed it in all the way and let the ABS do all the work. That slows your times down drastically. you’ll enjoy much better times and turning with it turned off.
I quit cold turkey by turning ABS off, loading up my own best time in the same car as a rival on a handling track, and just lapped it until I could get close to my old best time. I did this pretty early on in my forza career, so the best time wasn’t all that difficult to reach. At this point I can beat any time I set with ABS on, but I don’t know how much of that is the ABS itself, vs. how I’ve gotten better at driving in general and gotten to know the tracks that much better since then.
One thing I did was note roughly where the lockup threshold was on my red braking meter. It’s around 75% with the way I have most of my cars set up. Then I came to a complete stop, watched the meter, and practiced rapidly depressing the trigger exactly that much, repeatedly until I had a good feel for exactly where that point was. When I started moving again it was a good bit easier to avoid lockups.
But even if you don’t do that, you’ll learn where the threshold is over time without thinking about it. Just turn ABS off and lap, and you’ll develop that sense.
