Help please, I am new to gaming and racing games. Could some please give me tips when using the abs on assist, I am having trouble using the brake correctly as I usually use assisted braking.
If you mean that you turned off assisted braking and now just have ABS, I’m not sure how anybody could really give much advice for that. It’s a pretty straightforward thing - press the brakes to slow down for turns.
Cars can’t go through a corner at just any speed. All cars have a limit to how fast they can travel through a turn, and how fast that is depends on which corner it is, what car, and what setup is on the car. If you approach that corner faster than what the car can handle in that turn, you have to slow down via brakes. You don’t want to wait until you are in the turn to brake, but rather you must slow down on the approach to the turn.
If you can’t possibly take this turn faster than 75 MPH but you go into the turn at 120, you are probably going to wreck. If you enter that turn at 120 and then stomp on the brakes, you aren’t going to make the turn and may find yourself spinning out. Decrease your speed prior to going into that turn.
Approach is important, too. Every turn is different, but as a general principle you want to use the out-in-out strategy - approach a turn on the outside or far side of the track, dive toward the turn’s inside edge, and then exit the turn on the outside or far side. This means that if you are approaching a right turn, approach and brake along the left side of the track, arc towards the right side as you go through the turn, and then swing back out to the left side on the way out. This allows you to take a wider turn, which enables you to carry more speed and brake less.
Skip ABS and learn how to drive without assists, it will make you a better driver faster.
Ixoye56 may be right in ultimate terms but it depends on how much time you have spent on any driving games.
If you don’t know the tracks that is one of your first objectives. clock up the laps theres no other way. Use the racing line assist if you need it. With experience you can turn it off. Or use the braking only for markers indicating braking zones. Take note of where the lines are on the track. start with them and then you will find there are points where you can drive straight through or take a different line; depending on the car you are driving. With full assisted braking on you will learn little and almost certainly be slow.
Playing FM5 is relatively easy with the assists to help. However to be fast and competitive online is much more difficult. Nobody jumps straight in and drives like a pro if they haven’t played racing games before. Remembering thar FM5 is a game, you should find the balance of assists that you enjoy playing with.
Unlike many players I still drive auto and use abs and tcs. I’m not the very fastest by a long way but I’m still pretty quick. My friends who all drive manual are slower than me.
I agree I use assists and in the few rival events I have done I am in I think top 7-10%. I usually have 1 to 2 hours a day to play if that and assists help me get through without too much frustration.
Don’t most top shelf race cars now a days have some type of TCS/ABS etc?
The one thing I am bummed about is my paddle shift on right side is not working right now and Thrustmaster is sending a tact switch for me to replace the old one. To me manual is a must as it gives me more choices during a lap.
OP if you are hammering your pedal without ABS and you are locking up your brakes try to pulse your brakes a bit don’t wait until you are on to of the yellow or read warning indicator arrows before you brake.
You should have all of your breaking done well before you start the turn and you need to feather your throttle once in the turn to keep things pointed in proper direction.
So as you approach a turn and you see up ahead the yellow and red warning try pumping your brakes a bit until the line goes back to blue. start your turn and use throttle control to get you you through. One out of the turn you can try to hammer the go fast pedal.
set your racing line to brake only, turn off ABS, start braking early (in the yellow) until you learn the tracks and the cars’ ability. If you find you are locking up the tires while braking (without ABS) go to the upgrade shop and upgrade the brakes, then tune the car’s brake pressure down to 70-75%. This will give you more “trigger travel” (using a controller) before the wheels lock. After some practice and adjusting your tires should only lock when LT is fully depressed.
