difficulty opinions pleas guys

considering assists dont effect credits these days, what are the best options for assists in your opinions. i tend to turn it all of. ive recently popped the ai up to pro, just to take it to the next level, but im wondering if i should still drive with all assists off in regards to the “best” racing. do you guys think, if im primarily playing single player, i am doing myself a disservice by running no traction control for example.
in the dry, with enough laps, i can at least have a chance at getting to the front as long as i dont mess it up. in the wet however, i just cant seem to keep up with the front runners. im not far off, but not quite there. do the ai “use traction control” and therefore so should i?

cheers

The AI effectively uses all assists but other than that I would say its a personal gameplay/challenge choice. If you like the challenge go ahead and turn them off. If you dont want to use TCS in the rain try an AWD vehicle instead.

The main ones to turn off are auto shifting and TCS. You get far more control with manual shifting as well as a small speed boost from the quicker shifts. TCS off also forces you to learn throttle control.

Dont worry about trying to play the “right” way, play how you want to for your own fun.

I did the following when learning to drive in multiplayer, but you can do the same thing in single player.

I used automatic trans, ABS, full racing line, and TCS to start. First thing to do is learn the tracks and not to run over people. After I learned the tracks really well and got to where I could finish mid pack cleanly, I dropped off the auto trans and ABS one at a time.

Learning to brake without ABS took me some time to learn. However, my track times dropped the most with that change once mastered.

These days I still use the full racing line and TCS. Holding on to TCS is most likely costing me some time.

P00hhead nailed it. Play how you want to play.

I personally find the driving is very numb and difficult to feel the car with any assists on (though especially on controller there are valid reasons to use manual without clutch). It took me a long time to get used to driving without assists, but it provides a much clearer picture of how the car feels and also gives me much finer control.

You can change the assist settings during a race. If you’re having trouble in the rain, pause the game and turn on TCS and see if you prefer it or not. The only real disservice you can do to yourself is to play in a manner you don’t enjoy.

good answers guys, cheers. i do tend to run with it all off as, i agree with you guys, it “feels” better. the car seems more responsive and the manual gears and abs off deffo make a difference in the tight stuff. i have run with all the stuff pff for the last few games, its just this combination of pro ai and no tcs that may be a step too far for me in the rain. more driving is the answer i guess. i do wish the it were obvious what the restrictions were for the ai. anyhoo, cheers.

POOhhead’s suggestion of AWD is interesting.

I had stroke a couple of weeks ago, so they’ve gone from mostly off to many on. Also drivatar difficulty down several levels. You use the assists to make the game fit around you not the other way.
Hopefully i’ll improve but it’s not looking good so far. At this rate i’ll be playing Horizon 4 in Mario Kart mode!
I’m 44 and they can find no reason for it so remember to enjoy what you have before it’s gone.

Play in a style that works for you mate. I’ve been playing hardcore for the first time with mixed results. Playing assist-free offers potential for greatness, but also more potential for not-so-greatness. Braking for me is by far the greatest challenge. As for AI, they are all over the shop. On one track they can be a walkover, on another they can be literally unbeatable (I’m looking at you Sebring!). Just take things one race at a time, learn to control your inputs and thing should come good before too long.
