Okay guys I have the Xbox one FH2 version, im sorry if this has already been brought up before but I need to get a few things clear first. Ever since the update in February (don’t know if it was a system up date or game upate) I have been getting small stutters every now and then, happens usually in day time, and sometimes when I get xp or a skill chain goes into my skill points metre thingy. Now I have tried everything to try and fix this. I have reinstalled the game (twice), deleted storm island, deleted my old save game and started the game again (thinking it was a corrupted savegame) I have tried every different option in the xbone display and sound settings. None of this works. Now sometime i can go five minutes without a stutter but sometimes it can happen 3-4 times in a minute. All I want to know is if I am the only one that has this problem or if there is anyone else that has this problem. Im trying to work out whether it’s just the way the game is now and if everyone has this problem or if there is a problem with my game disc or xbox. Thanks for reading, if anyone knows a fix, please share.
Unfortunately, this is how the game is - not just Horizon 2 but also FM5. And yes, this issue has been discussed to death on both forums, of which, I was an active contributor as well!
There is nothing wrong with your console or the game, or any settings for that matter. And as you described it, they are quite random… sometimes happening just once or twice in almost an hour… sometimes more than once in 5-10 mins.
You might be able to cut it down (maybe) in some cases by doing a fresh boot (disconnect from mains, reconnect, power brick goes from white to orange, then power up) and clearing Persistent Storage.
However, it is just how the game makes calculations whatever they may be. Try to ignore it; everybody gets them… some say they upgraded to a faster external HDD and didn’t notice the stutter; there are others who say upgrading to an external HDD has no effect on stuttering apart from faster game loading and installation.
I’m betting most gamers don’t notice it that much, but those of us who do, it can get annoying, since none of this was ever present in FM4 or Horizon 1.
I’m sure they’re resolving it in the upcoming FM6 and Horizon 3. Give the console time to age a little, and good things will come I believe.
Interestingly I get zero stuttering in BF Hardline, COD AW or the two game demos I’ve tried so far: DOA5 and UFC.
It should also be noted that the stutter you get in FM5/Hor 2 is quite different from PCARS: the latter will display frame rate slowdowns in the form of hiccups when there’s too much going on. Whereas in the former, the screen micro-freeze is loading-induced and not a frame drop or slowdown.
Hope this helps (somewhat). We can only wait patiently and see if it is gone in the next Forza game. I also strongly believe MS and T10 are both aware of this, though they probably won’t acknowledge it. As the console ages, optimizations and better coding will definitely translate into smoother gaming experiences, that’s a given.
Try to enjoy the game as best as you can mate, and let me know if you need any further assistance in this regard.
BTW, do you get the stutter online/offline, both? Try clearing up your Alternate MAC Address. And as a general rule, always dive into your gaming session first thing after booting up the console.
Hey Speed, thanks for replying mate. Gee im happy to hear it’s just part of the game, It’s not all that bad, I still play it all the time, I was just wondering if my problem was console related, thankfully not. Yeah mate, I have a 3 tb WD My book, 7200RPM, it cuts the load times and installation times in half, but didn’t make a difference to the game. But I can live with that. Weirdly, I noticed that deleting forza hub off my console causes less stutters, I wonder if a lot of the stuttering was being caused by forza hub interacting with the game? i mean there is still stutters there, just not as many. I suffer the stutters in both online and offline as well. How do I clear my Alternate MAC Address?
Feels good to get undue stress off your chest, doesn’t it? Gotta love the internet and forums!
There you go - despite a faster HDD, you’re still getting them. It’ll be a thing of the past before we know it.
Hmm, I have read on not just this, but other forums that getting rid of Forza Hub might cut down stutters; maybe it needs to communicate with the app now and then whether you’re online or offline. Mehh… just a shot in the dark, but it might cure things a bit. As for me, I think I’m going to delete it altogether, since it’s stopped working: I just see the spinning wheel below “Introducing FM6…” and nothing happens. Before the FM6 message, it used to run.
Anyhooo, not to hijack your thread, to clear your Alt MAC add, go into Settings → Network → Advanced → Alternate MAC → Clear Alt MAC Add, that’s it!
It asks you to restart the console and afterwards you might experience a smoother experience online as well offline. I’m not sure what the logic is behind this, but this is what an MS rep told one X1 owner to do, along with the other standard stuff - cold boot, power cycle, clear PS - in order to make his gaming experience smooth as silk. Don’t remember which forum it was though.
Enjoy your console and Horizon 2, it is a killer game and addictive as pop corn and soda! couldn’t think of any other reference
Cheers and don’t hesitate to ask questions around here. Some folks are more than happy to help.
Hey speed, another question mate, do you think the release of dx12 will fix the stuttering? Also can getting a better tv also improve on this issue? (my tv is pretty cheap and not all that good)
also ignore the first post I was meant to reply to you directly
Hey, what’s up? Sorry, haven’t been checking the forums very regularly.
DX12 may fix stuttering, although will FH2 and FM5 benefit from this? Remains to be seen.
Getting a better TV might resolve the issue, since more expensive TVs with frame interpolation (motion refresh enhancements that artificially boost the Hz on your screen) up the frames and make games look smoother and more fluid, sometimes introducing better, crispier motion detail.
However, seeing how I don’t have a very high-tech TV myself (runs at 60 Hz), and how FM2, 3 and 4 as well as Horizon 1, was completely smooth, I am led to believe it is just how the code works in the game, since no other game that I own on my X1 stutters.
Ironic, isn’t it? You choose to get a console instead of a PC, and a driving factor for many gamers is smooth, seamless, uninterrupted gameplay!
Yeah my tv is a TCL which is some cheap chinese TV, it cost $200 (Australian Dollars) and it doesn’t even have a game mode or anything. So it’s pretty hard to get the correct settings. It’s only a HD TV too and not a FullHD TV. It’s a pretty good TV for that price though, but I definitely need an Upgrade. I think my TV runs at 60hz, not to sure but im pretty sure it does. Do you know any real good gaming TVs out there for under $800?
TCL… what’s that? Some kind of backlight tech? Mine’s a CCFL HDTV, I believe.
Under $800 you can get a very good Sony Bravia 3D LED HDTV that’s 46" or larger, FULL HD, does 60 Hz (stock) but has motion enhancements to up the frames artificially. You’ll also get great color depth for that price… 12-bit panel I guess - so that’s 36 bit of color, all three channels combined… ! Make sure the response time is under 8 ms, and apart from that, you’re all set.
You can also get a really good 40 inch+ Sammy for that amount.
I swear, even to this day… I strongly believe my sub-HD Philips CRT TV has better motion detail, blacks and color depth.
