Have you noticed how visible texture pop up is in both Horizon 2 and Horizon 2 F&F?
I’m driving fast and on distant buildings and mountains I can see more detail being loaded and more shadows popping up. I’ve also noticed how the shadows don’t move in real -time; they shift at what seems like a frame or two every 2 seconds, kinda like they did in Horizon 1 or the Assassin’s Creed games.
I also noticed how the shadows of the birds flying overhead can be seen on the road moving at maybe 3-5 frames a second. I was parked at the time.
A bit surprised to see these things happening on new gen. I’m sure all of you have either experienced all this or not noticed it as much.
BTW, the engine revs getting stuck bug is something you mostly experience online, almost never when you’re offline.
And, finally, I feel the control in Hor 2 compared to Hor 2 F&F is a bit off: in the former you feel as if there is a wierd deadzone in the middle and the car suddenly responds outside that center deadzone, almost like a lag. I haven’t experienced the same in the latter. My deads in both games are 0/100, SIM steering on. No assists.
I’m using no enhancements
My TV is Full HD and 60 Hz
All latest game and system updates installed
Controller update installed
One more thing; I’m having trouble connecting to Live. It’s been like this for the past 12 hours. Sometimes connects, sometimes doesn’t. It won’t even let me sign in, although I can sign in just fine on the Xbox.com website. I see a message on my console’s home page: “It looks like we’re having issues on our end and will be resolved. Try again soon”… something along those lines.
So is this your first ever video game or something? To me, you sound like you’re being a bit paranoid over small graphical glitches in the game which pretty much any game has, especially with draw distance.
As for the Xbox live issue, the clue is in the error message…
Thank you for that somewhat rude and mildly sarcastic response.
Some of what I’ve described is present in X360 games, particularly Horizon 1; however, I was not expecting to see this stuff happening on a NEW GEN console. Even FM5 has texture pop ups around certain parts of the track or as you approach cars that are in front of you.
Maybe the console’s too young; maybe new gen isn’t what it’s all hyped up to be.
If you think all this is normal and/or acceptable, good for you. I had higher expectations, that’s all.
Sorry to say man, but the XB1 is a weak console (so is the PS4). I knew that coming in. If you are really bothered by things like this, you should’ve gotten a gaming PC. I also had higher expectations for the new consoles, but I love Forza enough to put aside their issues.
The rev hanging thing is a bug which should have been fixed a long time ago. But I notice it more in single player than multiplayer if anything; apparently getting an external harddrive fixes that problem
Oddly enough, I’ve experienced the rev bug mostly online (not MP just connected to Live).
And yes, I did have high expectations; honestly did not expect new gen consoles to exhibit such behavior in games.
By the way are you experiencing any frame stutters? Particularly in Forza 5? Just curious.
I’m sure the console’s experiencing a bottleneck somewhere. I only have two games right now, three actually: F5, Hor 2 and Hor 2 F&F. Less stutters in both Horizon games, a bit more in Forza 5. But not frequent enough to break gameplay.
Do you fellas thing a faster external drive will also fix the stutters for good? Because I’m not entirely sure if it’s a RAM or HDD issue. Perhaps the latter.
Any suggestions for a reliable and fast external HDD? What price range am I looking at?
Its been reported in the engine hanging thread that the external HDD fixed the problem for 2 people that got it, perhaps the rpm is too low internally or something. Havent noticed it in the F&F expansion and as for Forza 5 I havent played that for a while but dont recall any stutters; I had an audio bug near the start but a power cycle seems to have fixed that
I have seen online when its raining theres a piece of track which doesn’t load quick enough and you see through the tarmac
No stutters at all in FM5, really? I find that surprising. Maybe you don’t notice them at all. They either happen on some or all tracks. On certain tracks, you’ll see it happening at the exact same spot on the first lap, 95% of the time.
Speaking of anomalies and/or bugs, to your knowledge, does the X-One get really warm like the 360? Do you think that can affect game performance?
I have mine elevated by a quarter of an inch using 4 identical supplement bottle caps! A small pedestal fan gets a draft coming in from the left.
Well, mine’s a disc version, though I don’t believe that has any bearing on the issue. If you’re going to get it, you’ll get it. If not, well and good. Although you may not have noticed it enough to be bothered by it.
Is you’re TV capable of frame interpolation? Higher than 60 Hz motion refresh enhancements?
Well mate, why don’t you give it a go and see if you experience any on Lemans, Long Beach, Nurb GP/Ring or Panorama for instance?
You might inadvertently help someone out!
Thanks, much appreciated!
Great links, very useful. No wonder there’s really warm air coming out the top right half of the console. I switch it off and the heat dissipates soon.
Computers of any sort have always been vulnerable to overheating, but I think the only performance problem has been an increase in the risk of crashing. I’ve got five in my house including two Xboxes and they all have their own personal fan which never leaves them. I live in a pretty warm climate.
But it still begs the question: is the xbox one vulnerable to faster wear and tear and/or failed components as a result of too much heat build up? I don’t think so… seeing how the only place the console gets warm is the “grill-looking” part next to the glossy finish on top which is where warm air is probably being pulled away from the console.
I’m sorry, but I’ve read this whole conversation with laughter. For the love of god just enjoy your game instead of focusing on minor faults in games, they’re always going to be there. Or do what the guy in the beginning said and build yourself a gaming computer, though you will be missing out on Forza.
Good advice, but it looks like I beat you to it: I’m already doing just that! Decided to put all the faults/minor nuisances aside and really getting into the game.
I sure hope FM6 doesn’t exhibit any strange behavior. I say strange, because consoles are well-optimized to prevent such issues. Oh well, the world isn’t as happy a place as it used to be; can’t have your cake and eat it too!
Forza 5’s physics are insane BTW! Care for a little MP head to head sometime?
