Steering wheel w/clutch help.

So i want a steering wheel with a clutch and shifter (not pedals but i don’t mind if they come on the wheel) cant seem to find any. I don’t want to spend loads but i saw a g25 or g27… are these good or do you recommended something like a thrust-master (but they are pricey). also is it more fun with a wheel and clutch or controller? Thanks.

There are no cheap ones; think the cheapest is around $400 indeed. Too bad but the old peripherals are not backwards compatible with the One.

That said, there are a lot of top drivers that use clutch on the controller. Is it fun? I dunno but I can imagine 2 buttons to shift up/down is easier (thus faster) than maybe a subpar device.

I use the clutch setting on my controller and you shift way faster with it. The regular manual has a slight delay giving the edge to people that can use it. Definitely worth it.

Only the two thrustmasters work at the moment with the Xbox One.

No, MadCatz has got a set as well; no clutch though…

The release of it keeps getting delayed, was supposed to be out this month; now it will be next month.

You currently have only 2 options on Xbox One. Thrustmaster or Mad Catz (I personally refuse to buy anything from Mad Catz, that’s why I went with TX).

You have 2 choices from Thrustmaster
Thrustmaster TX $349 (Amazon) Full Feedback & Vibration. Swappable rims around $100-$150 (I own oth GTE & F1 rim}. They just released pedals with clutch $99. Later this summer they will release the shifter. (I own and love wheel. On 360 I had cheap MS Wheel. On Xbox One, I was determined to have a nicer wheel this time around).

Thrustmaster 458 Spider $99 No Force Feedback (rubber band system) No add ons for this wheel as far as I know.

If you do buy either Thrustmaster wheel, I recommend a wheel stand from Wheel Stand Pro. I have V2. If you want to get the 3 pedals or shifter add on for TX, you will need to get Deluxe V2.

I personally think sim based racing games should be enjoyed with a wheel. To me, price no obect if it’s my preferred way to enjoy a game.

You can use a clutch with out the physical pedal. Go to controller in game and map it to A Button. Of course both Thrustmaster come with paddle shifters.

unfortunatly MS shafted everyone on the steering wheel side of things (or any other 3rd party devices for that matter) nothing released prior to the xboxones release will work. at the moment thrustmaster tx is the only available wheel with FFB, pedals with a clutch are an extra and stick shift is still yet to be seen. having forza 5 as a launch title for the X1 and not having any decent wheel setups compatible was a very VERY poor decicion, especially now we are past six months past the release of the console and there are no new wheels up to the standard of what we already had available to use on forza 4.

The thrustmaster TX, it is a very good wheel in itself. The default rim feels a little cheap, but works as intended without issue. The wheel base itself is very good, with a lot of people owning fanatecs on various forums stating the TX as having better “feel”. And people who have owned the Thrustmaster T500 RS for PS3 and PC, saying that the TX has smoother force feedback; which is pretty much just as powerful. If not more so in some circumstances. Thrustmaster may have scrimped with the default wheel rim and pedals, but what it comes with is very usable.

The Thrustmaster TX is £250 on Amazon uk, which is very reasonable in my opinion. Especially when it was £350 last December at its release. I will be getting the T3PA pedal set as well, and also the shifter when it releases this summer.

well the TX here in australia is priced ridiculously, they were asking $649-$699 when it was first released (i paid less than that for my t500) now its still over $500 on ‘special’ wich to me is a compleat rip off. i could buy it from the US much cheaper (aprox. $400 shipped) but then there is the PSU issue… even with the the optional 3 pedal set it still doenst compare to whats in front of me already, especially for the price they are asking here.
even the MadCatz wheel is set to be a whopping $749 here… thanks but no thanks. and some people wonder why others are upset about legacy support.

edit
not trying to bash the tx wheel here at all, i know it is a good base unit itself with the brushless motor and such, but the overall package is not worth it to me, in my country atleast.

I have the cheap $100.00 Thrustmaster 458 with paddle shift and the “A” button on the wheel for the clutch and I love it. I think getting this wheel makes sense just in case you get bored of the game or like playing with a controller better. If you really like it then you can spend the $400 for the force feedback. I really don’t miss the force feedback that much.

Blue, is that Thrustmaster themselves inflating the price, or the Australian government with the taxing system you have over there?

its not tax, is comes down to the wholesalers and retailers. basically from my understanding the wholesaler gets it from TM then sells it to the retailer who then sells it to the consumer, its passing through too many hands that are trying to make their profit.

edit
thats what i think anyway, it was the same for fanatec products before they opened the australian warehouse, we paid through the teeth to get their products. CSR elite was $900 here, and it was discontinued before they opened in australia so you can see why the people that invested in that product are furious (myself included) microsoft knew that forza 5 was going to be a launch title, they also knew they were not going to support the 360 wheels but they made no effort in accomadating those already invested, even still there is no reasonable solution besides buying an iferior setup overal. the smarter thing they SHOULD have done was get onboard with fanatec from the get get go so people could still upgrade their wheels but still have the mudular parts of their existing setups.
i am still very angry at MS for this, i bought the XB1 for my passion for forza but i have yet to put any decent amount of time into it, i am very close to abandoning the whole thing but i am trying to hold my hope that something will change or fanatec will come up with something, because the situation is absolutly discusting.

i think my rant is over :stuck_out_tongue:

You guys should watch this

saw it yesterday

those are completely useless,it is not a viable option. there is no real FFB and your steering rates emulate a controller joystick, which is normally the reason people get a wheel, joystick steering sucks and putting that onto a wheel is just stupid.

The usual line is to put the inflationary Australian prices down to unit shipping charges as nobody bulk imports due to the relatively small size of the market. Fanatec got around that by warehousing locally. The problem with wheels is global however. The Thrustmaster is overpriced - even on sale - and will stay that way as long as there is no competition in the marketplace. The fact that they don’t even feel the need to allow people to purchase the wheel base separately underlines the problem. They can do what they want. And that is exactly what they do.

If everyone who feels shafted at not being able to use the expensive wheels they already have were to vote

https://xbox.uservoice.com/forums/251650-console-accessories/suggestions/6028790-fanatec-csr-and-csr-elite-wheels

It might get noticed… might not change anything, but it might get the point across!

I would recommend following this as it seems to be a good place to vote about it

@EVOdriverX - there are a few threads about that you might want to give the similar wheel threads which should be found in the first 3 pages of this section a read before considering using that

Depending on how you like to enjoy your racing games, I would either go with the 458 Italia Thrustmaster wheel or the TX Thrustmaster. I prefer the force feedback as it is makes it easier to feel what the car is doing and when the tires are breaking loose or how close I actually am to the kerb or grass. On my wheel, I just changed the clutch to a button (swap hand brake with clutch) and just push it every time I shift. It seems much simpler than getting pedals with the clutch and is just as efficient. Although, to some extent, it does take away from the banging through gears like you could in a car but like everyone has said, there is no shifter attachment yet.

Not that I know the mechanics of it, in October, 2012, I got to drive a Porsche 997 Turbo on the race course in Las Vegas (thanks to my bride, an anniversary and birthday present) and the instructor said he would call out shifts. After the half lap he stopped because I was hitting them correctly.

That vehicle was a full-race setup, including paddle shifters and “auto-clutch” which the regular instructors at the course claimed was faster shifts than the manual method with the clutch pedal and shifting with the stick shift. The real advantage with that is you don’t miss a shift.

To me, it felt exactly like the in-game Fanatec GT2 paddles and the automatic clutch setup in FM4, except the instructor said to keep my left foot planted on the non-movable “brace” pad, and use only my right foot for both brake and gas. No buttons to push, no clutch to engage or disengage, and it felt very natural and similar to my game setup.
