Steering wheel or controller?

I was curious as to who uses a steering wheel and who uses a controller? I have a steering wheel for my Xbox 360, but I have not purchased one for the Xbox One. I used the wheel mostly for F1 as it increased my lap times a lot. But is it worth it, or should I just stick with the controller for Forza on Xbox One?

Controller for me. I do decent I think plus I don’t wanna spend the $400 for the wheel and pedals then spend another $100 for a stand just to play forza with a wheel. Love the game but not enough to basicly pay the price I did for the system and game to enjoy it more.

Wheel when I can afford it. Definitely a wheel. Used the MS Wireless Wheel and have the Fanatec GT2.

A wheel gives you immersion. Or as my wife said when I got the first wheel, “I was wondering when you would want one. You don’t drive our cars with a controller.”

This 100%,once you have a wheel there is no going back!

Controller for me on the Xbox One - sad that my Fanatec and Forza Playseat is collecting dust.

My Forza playseat is also collecting dust.

you can stick with your old wheel if you want. see below

The Fanatec CSR (GT2 will work exactly the same) works great with Forza 5, just posted a top 50 time last night on the “I could do that in a van” rivals challenge. It’s early in the challenge, I know, but i had a blast getting such a decent time

that is sad when a $60 adapter could remedy that. see below

a “driver” has already been released. see below

It may not be official, but it’s the best conversion we currently have. see below

I have the cheapo Mad Catz Xbox 360 wheel. Will this work on that aswell, or just the Fanatec?

If it’s a wireless 360 wheel of any sort, it should work exactly the same as in the video. Although, there are also methods to get it working with the adapter through PC via Xinput, not requiring you to have the wireless 360 adapter for windows if you don’t want to buy that as well. The second method I mention works for most other peripherals that aren’t specifically wireless 360 wheels.

I’ll use a wheel when they release a driver for the Fanatec I already have.

It’s not fixable with a driver. Fanatec’s wheel operates on an entirely different wireless format than the Xbox One. Sadly, there will be no way to use existing Fanatec peripherals with the new generation console.

Another fine example of how Microsoft cares nothing for their customer base.

It might be that in order to take a significant step forwards they had to move into a new way of doing things that made backwards compatibility impossible. I kind of doubt that Microsoft is trying to alienate anyone.

Fanatec has said it’s probably possible to create an adapter for their 360 wheels but that Microsoft needs to grant license to do such.

I would definitely prefer a wheel to the controller. The last one I had was a Logitech wheel for the PS2 and I loved the precise control it gave me playing Gran Turismo (before I converted to the Xbox and Forza). Unfortunately, as has been pointed out, it’s not worth spending as much as the entire XB1 system to get one. I think I got that wheel for $99 on sale and I might pay as much as $150 for a really good one, but any more than that and I’ll stick with the controller.

Sold my Fanatec CSR and put the money towards a Thrusmaster TX. Also have the GTE rim add-on, Fanatec CSR elite pedals with Bashers required asapter. I will also pick up thrustmaster TH8A h-pattern shifter when it’s available this summer. I have my own my setup.

I am fortunate to have what I have(partly because I won my Xbox One console at Best Buy’s midnight launch lol).
But I can justify my purchases (and the overtime I worked to get it) , because Forza is my favorite game. I absolutely love playing it and especially wirh a proper wheel. I will enjoy many Forza games,Project Cars and who knows what elso thethe Xbox One has coming in the future years using the Thrusmaster TX. I believe I will get my moneys worth in the end.
Any one looking to get info a sim wheel I highly recommend it

For me wheel. I’ve been using a wheel since Forza 2. I do have the Thrustmaster TX for Xbox One & I love it. I all so have the GTE & F1 rim add ons (F1 is my personal favorite), along with a Wheel Stand Pro V2. I’ve invested $730 on my wheel set up, lol. I won’t be buying the pedals or shifter add on. I would need the wider Wheel Stand Pro Deluxe V2 to add both. However, most new exotics don’t have a clutch or manual gear box. So original pedals and paddle shifters are good enough for me. I just can’t play a sim game with a controller. I use a controller for PGR.

You have 2 Thrustmaster choices now. TX $349 (current price on Amazon. I paid $400 at launch) & Ferrari 458 Spider $99. I got my rims for my TX off Amazon for $100 each. I got the Wheel Stand Pro V2 that was $130 (the wider Wheel Stand Pro Deluxe V2 that allows new 3 pedals set up & upcoming shifter add on cost $170).

So you can choose to go the cheaper route with the $99 458 Spider wheel if you are on a tight budget but really prefer a wheel. TX is the way to go for the best possible wheel experience. Head over to the Thrustmaster Facebook Page, they got lots of information on their products.

I’m totally looking forward to Project Cars in November(skipping FH2, didn’t buy first one). My TX will get lots of use for a while.

With those of you with a playseat collecting dust, would you be interested in selling them? When I bought my Xbox1, I also bought a wheel because I cannot justify playing a racing simulator with a silly controller. Since I have never come across any car that is controlled with a video game controller. I guess I have about $900-1000 in my racing setup without the playseat. When it comes to something I thoroughly enjoy beyond all measure, I will spend what I have to, to play the way I want to play. Fortunately I have a great job that allows me such comforts.

I feel the exact same way on, “price no object if that’s how I want to play”. I have a decent job at a medical distribution warehouse, so I do alright.

I have the Thrustmaster cheap $100 wheel and a Wheelstand Pro V2 and love it. Really makes the game much more fun for me. I actually think the cheap Thrustmaster wheel is very good for the price. No Force Feedback but I really don’t even notice anymore.
