After reading the recent epidemic of boredom posts, I think it would interesting to see if boredom could be a symptom of controller or wheel racing. This is by no means a scientific study because the ratio of controller users to wheel users is greatly skewed.
If Forza no longer gets your motor running, let us know if you use a controller or wheel. I’m having a great time and I use a wheel. I also don’t hot lap, so my time is spent racing on line where any race can be an adventure!
I wasn’t aware that there was an epidemic of boredom posts. There was one. Now there are two.
That said, I use a wheel because I have to. I have a condition that affects fine motor control, so I can’t use a controller properly. It’s maddening.
I love the TX, and the immersion helps me to enjoy the game even more than I otherwise would. I’d play this game without a wheel if I had to (I used the controller for a while, and did all right by making some modifications to the sticks), but, because I’m such a car-nerd, the wheel really completes things for me.
It’s not perfect by any means, and it’s actually harder to play with a wheel in some ways (recovering from getting wrecked, for example), but the feel of it combined with cockpit view is something I can’t see myself getting bored with.
I get to drive an Alfa 33 in cockpit view with a wheel. Where else will I ever get to do that?
I don’t even need to be racing anybody. Just cruising around a track like that is such a pleasure that boredom is the furthest thing from my mind.
I use a controller and am still thoroughly enjoying the game. My time is pretty evenly divided between online racing, tuning, and hot lapping. Mixing it up between the 3 different aspects keep my attention.
I would love to be able to paint as well, but I don’t think I have enough patience and desire to put in the time it takes to get decent at it. Props to all the painters out there!
There could be a correlation between having a wheel, and getting bored. But it doesn’t mean wheels make players get bored faster.
Its probably more like this:
The kind of player who invests in an expensive wheel is probably a serious racing game hobbyist… and they play a LOT more than the average player.
I’d chalk their boredom up to the smaller track list.
I like Neopoleon have to use a wheel i lost an arm and a leg in the gulf so the wheel is the only way i can play this game not a serious racing game hobbyist but a just a guy wanting to have some fun and boredom dosen’t get a chance to be part of my day all i can say is the wheel is great
This is the problem I’m having, and why I haven’t been playing FM5 that much recently. Still a great game, but I can’t play it for more than an hour or so before I get bored. Ususally end up switching to World of Tanks or Fallout New Vegas, something more… engaging.
I use a controller with all the help turned off. I used to race with the bonnet view but I’m now racing in the cockpit for added difficulty. It’s the difficulty that keeps me entertained. I also only race and tune, I can’t be doing with the drag or game modes.
TX Wheel owner here, I just got my CSR Elite pedals and should be getting bashers adapter later this wheek. Also should be getting the Thrutmaster GTE rim maybe tomorrow!
Chalk me up as entertained and definitely not bored:-D
Same here. I’m still having fun with the game even if I don’t play every day. I’d like to get a wheel but want one that will also work on PC and PS4 in case i ever get one.
Far from bored with the wheel. I cannot imagine sitting and playing a racing simulator with a bloody controller. That has to be the most boring and mind numbingly option to play a racing simulator.
I have a fanatec csr, forza 4 wheel that I use with a dozen or more titles on the 360, ps3, and pc. Today my wife surprised me with forza 5 and a xbox one. Playing f5 without my wheel isnt at all the same. Driving isnt as immersive with the controller, and Im getting bored rather quickly. I now see drifting is so popular in forza. Seems like when pulling the left trigger, sliding just occurs, much to my annoyance.
After spending a fortune on my Fanatec wheel and pedals I’m really dissapointed that they don’t work on the Xbox One.
Don’t think I’ll be buying the Thrustmaster TX, guess I the controller will have to do :(.
Controller user/Fanatec owner here and yes I’m thoroughly bored of this game. It just isn’t the same without my wheel.
I completely blame this on Microsoft as this is pretty much how I will feel with all racing games on XB1 due to the wheel issue.
That said, doesn’t help that there is a limited track list along with the removal of the auction house and storefront to motivate the painter in me.
Good thing I have a badass PC to use as a dedicated sim rig. The XB1 will have to be for my fps and rpg appetite.
