Agreed! However, I switched to the wheel in on FM7 and was actually able to match my speed that I use to have with the controller. Also, it seems tuning has a much greater effect on the wheel. Makes passing cars a lot easier
Corner entry/being precise is easier with a wheel, but somehow over/understeer feeling is easier with controller. I tend to get better times with a wheel and also get more spin-accidents, but for being consistent I prefer controller.
It’s quite obvious game is build for controller (which is a reasonable strategy from T10 considering thats most of Forza playerbase) but after spending some time adjusting FFB for a wheel it’s also quite good. Definitely miles better than in FM7 or FH5.
If you watch the replays of the fastest times in Rivals you can see they’re all on controller.
The way the game filters the sticks to maintain maximum turning angle at the limits of grip provides the small difference that is needed to go faster at the very top.
Wheel is definitely easier to be more precise but without that aid, you gotta find the limits by yourself.
It’s like the endless keyboard/mouse vs controller arguements in COD or something.
The game is developed for a playerbase that is mostly on controller and it needs those kind of assists to make it handle well.
You can try turning on the gamepad filters for the wheel (the very bottom option in Advanced Wheel Settings), which should keep you limited to the maximum amount of grip at any time. Only issue would be the alignment of your wheel to the in-game wheel being off, but dash cam should take care of that.
I think others have answered it for you. But in my opinion unfortunately wheel is a total waist of time. I am struggling so much on wheel. I have asked fastest guys in my lobbies what they are using and it’s all controller. I think it is impossible to match controller with a wheel. Which is a real disappointment.
I’m not sure what is faster, but the FFB on the wheel is fantastic once you get settings dialed. I doubt that controllers are actually faster. The only think I am aware of that assists controllers is that it limits steering input the faster you are going.
Also, assuming there aren’t any other controller assists I am not aware of… those of you saying that the wheel is slower, try using less steering input. I race actual cars, and too much steering input is a super common issue for newer drivers.
Try to get the car to rotate with as little steering input as possible by using the brakes or engine braking. It is a super delicate balance because once you have asked too much of the front tires you are going to understeer, but once you feel it, it should really help your speed with the wheel (and in a real car).
The problem with the steering wheel is that it requires a good understanding of how it is adjusted (requires experience) and having driven real sports cars to regain credibility in terms of driving. Personally I tested with the controller at first, it was not bad but lacked fluidity and precision in the turns = early wear of the tires. so I took time to adjust my steering wheel and today I am much more regular and faster than with the controller. FYI, once the steering wheel is properly adjusted, this gives you a good FFB, not like rf2 or asseto corsa but we get close, enough for me to have a lot of fun with this game.
Provided that the steering wheel is properly adjusted, it is indeed the most competitive. It just makes sense.
Sadly, FH physics is not PGR 4 level, driving with racing wheel there is not too interesting.
Forza Motorsport (or any other sim) is completely different story. Wheel is the only way to play it properly.
I drive since late FM3 (short before FM4 arrived). Always controller and i would consider me casual. A couple of days ago i bought a G-923. Short conclusion:
Default Wheel Settings are bad - watch some YT videos and adapt!
1st - it is fun and a dissimilar experience.
2nd - You must re learn how to drive in all aspects.
3rd - you will be slower, probably reasonable slower at the beginning.
4th - you may want to adapt your car setup.
5th - you may want to step back from multiplayer for a while until you adapted.
It is not a buy, install, presse magic button to be fast - process.
There are people on YT proofing wheel can be competitive with controller players, even (or especially?) at the top level of driving.
And no, it is not the only legit way to play Forza. Forza is made to be played by controller. Play the game in the way you enjoy it the most (as long as crashing others in multiplayer is not the source of your fun ).
