Quick question. I’ve not used a wheel since Sega Rally for the Sega Saturn
Yes I’m that old…
My bro has a Fanatec Csl DD McLaren wheel he’s used twice and put back in the box so I’m thinking of borrowing it permanently.
Is wheel any sort of advantage on Motorsport (Xbox) over controller these days? Or is the game still orientated towards controller like FM7?
Cheers
Wheel will give you more precise control in corners. Otherwise the pace between the two is fairly comparable.
Also, you have access to a DD wheel? Definitely give it a shot, fun is just around the corner.

99,8% of the fastest forza players are on gamepad - that’s all you need to know.

For the first time in series history, both are competitive with each other.

Both are competitive but the wheel is much harder. It’s also much more fun when you have the practice in with it.

Do you think this is because it’s easier? Or simply because it’s the more accessible (and cheaper) option?

Because the wheel is hard. REALLY hard.

It can be done though, I’ve broken 5 minutes at Nordschleife in the AMR, on a wheel.
Wheel is tougher in some scenarios (mostly due to high FFB and bumpy surfaces) but has advantages in others.
There is a player I race against weekly and we’re at near identical pace in most cars, but as he’s on pad his front tyre wear tends to be a little higher than mine in Featured Multiplayer.
Overall I’d say wheel and pad are about even, and the differences largely come down to player skill.
Every prior Forza title, pad was faster 100%, as wheel FFB was awful. Wheel FFB is good now, especially on a direct drive, but it’s hard to find the right settings.

I break 2:55 every time on Le Mans in the AMR lol
But could hardly do a 2:59 on a wheel.
I attempted Nordschleife for 3 corners and gave up on a wheel.

Controller is easier, but w/o precise steering input u will easily kill your front tyres.
Wheel is definitely faster in touring series (with sport tc) due to tyre wear, but overall steering wheel in Forza is more for true sim guys that don’t care if car suddenly start spinning.
In terms of pace as long as u have precise control over gamepad analog stick for steering, u will be better of with gamepad than steering wheel.

Thanks for replies guys.
Guess my brother will be sans wheel for a few weeks , see if I can get used to it.

4:55 at Le Mans?
To quote the late, great Sabine Schmitz, “I could do that…IN A VAN.”
Surely you mean the Nordschleife.

Oh man I feel slow. My brain just clicked.
Is this why FM7 had the bloody transit van in it?
I’d always passed it off with all the other stupid cars included and never put that one together…
I don’t know if it was ever officially confirmed that this was the reason, but it always seemed to me like a pretty logical conclusion to draw.
I almost play daily and clocked 1k hrs but i have never seen you on Featured Multiplayer (i mostly play forza gt and avoid open class racing)
If you a good DD wheel (Fanatec or Moza) the game is a lot more fun, but the wheel is more punitive if you take a bad cornering. BTW prepare to spend some time to fine tune your wheel setup, it take me a lot of time to get my DD Granturismo working.

I saw them once or twice in P Class but I don’t think I ever ran into them in X Class last week.
Edit: wait it was an X Class race, here
Lately I’m only on Monday evenings (Europe) with my club. We matchmake as a group which means I don’t come across ungrouped players too often. We mostly play open class racing.
You’re welcome to join though, anyone is so long as they race clean: Casual Racing Mondays
Hotlapping Nords on a wheel in the AMR is how I “relax” after a night of C-Class racing
