Hi everyone
Just wondering what steering wheels can I buy that I can use for Xbox one?
[Mod Edit - thread moved from FH2 Discussion to Hardware - MM]
I have the same question so I’ll piggy back onto this thread in lieu of making a new on, as there’s probably tons of threads on the topic.
I’ve spent the past few days researching and the results do not look promising. For those not in the know, the only two options are the various iterations of the Thrustmaster TX, and the Mad Catz pro. I’d like to summarize my research and describe a few of my concerns with both in hopes that someone with experience can address them.
I’d initially settled on the Mad Catz because it appears to be of higher quality, provide more adjustibility, and I like the button layout better. Then I read more into some of the negative reviews–weak force feedback, noisy operation, and a “ratcheting” or “clicky” or “sticky” feel when turning the wheel (similar to the scroll wheel on a mouse). In this regard it’s not as good as the Thrustmaster which is said to have great force feedback and silky smooth operation. I could deal with with noise, ratcheting feel, and weak force feedback as long as it’s not bad enough to detract from the experience. With a wheel I’m looking for a more realistic and immersive experience, and for more control and feedback as to when I’m losing traction. Does this wheel still do so?
I’d ruled out the Thrustmaster because it looks tacky, I’m not a fan of the Ferrari branding or button layout, and it appears to be cheaply constructed. Then you get into the reviews. It’s a never ending list of bricked units and troubleshooting issues. It seems every other wheel doesn’t work out of the box, or stops working while it’s still virtually new. But those who have not had these issues say the experience is spot on. I don’t want to risk so much time, money, and effort resolving issues on a wheel that might not ever work. I’d hope that now that’s been some time since release they’d have worked out a few of the kinks. But reading recent reviews suggests otherwise. If there’s a foolproof way to get this thing up and running I would consider it. Otherwise I’m really turned off by the lack of quality.
I’d be interested in hearing someone with experience address a few of these concerns!
Same question here. Im so sick of these situations where you need a fast reaction. On the 360 I had the speed wheel which was enough for me.
-I want to spend max. 300€.
-It MUST have a clutch pedal.
MadCatz doesnt have a clutch. Thrustmaster seems to be low quality. According to Amazon they tend to break (FFB).
Any suggestions?
The Thrustmaster TX doesn’t have a clutch either, though a pedal set with one is coming out in a few weeks. I too have read some negative things about the TX wheel however I haven’t heard very many complaints about dealing with Thrustmaster to resolve the problem, most seem do have little difficulty getting replacements. That said you are wanting to spend 300€ then the MadCatz&Thrustmaster TX are out of your range anyway.
I’m in the market too and I’ve been waiting since I got my XBone w/ FM5 in Dec '13 to make a wheel purchase. I was hoping by the time Project Cars came to release on PC that we’d have a few more options available but we are still stuck with the same wheel lineup. Being both PC and Xbone is very important to me. Honestly I think it’s a terrible time to make a large investment into a wheel setup. With Windows 10/DirectX 12 coming possibly as early as June for OEM and we know that a few months after it’s release there’s going to be some form of Win10/DX12 integration into the Xbone it’s possible that will open up the door to more hardware options than we currently have.
I’m really anti Thrustmaster TX, not because of the quality but because of the price. Base model TX wheel is $400. Add the shifter in at $150 and the pedal set for $100. At that point you are into the Fanatec range. If I’m going to spend $650 on a wheel then I might as well wait and spend $800. The CFO of the company I work for just ordered a very well optioned out Z06 for $120k Don’t get me wrong I love the new Vette but if you have $120k to drop on a Vette then you have $150k to drop on a GT3 or AMG.
I’ve waited long enough so I’m just going to plop $99 on the Thrustmaster 458 and then ebay it and buy something else once the dust has settled from the DX12 changeover.
Do you realize that the Z06 is the most capable track car under $1,000,000? Mercedes and Porsches are highly unreliable and the vette can stomp any of them. My buddy had and sl65 amg and his block cracked (all stock). The 911 has a bearing in the engine that breaks and it is practically totalled.

In the meantime, Fanatec has unfortunately increased their pricing. I’ve researched a comparison of Logitech G920, Thrustmaster T500 and ClubSports here:
Whew. Phew. Going from Logitech to Thrustmaster is about 1.5x, going from Thrustmaster to Fanatec now is like 2.5x increase in pricing.

There wont be many suggestions if you are looking for a current gen sub-300€ wheel thats mid to high quality AND offers a clutchpedal…
Cheapest solution would be the spider variant of the Thrustmaster TX (approx 100 quid) which lacks FFB at all (bungie cord) and get the T3PA addon (another 100 quid) and, optionally, the TH8S shifter (150 quid). You can skip the shifter if you want to use the shifter paddles together with the clutch, even though thats not really realistic anyways.
Not sure if you can call the TX 458 “low quality”…yes they still seem to have QA issues, even though i personally never had any issues with my TX, even after logging more than 250 hours of FM5 and FH2. But keep in mind that FFB wheels have to deal with pretty strong forces, especially with their strong ffb motors nowadays. So they were always prone to issues compared to other gaming peripherals.
And dont forget, there will always be more negative comments on a product than positive ones. Its human nature, happy customers spend their time enjoying their new toy rather than putting up customer reviews to tell anyone how satisfied they are.
It also seems that, in most cases, TM support offers swift replacement to anyone who bought their hardware from official suppliers and was unlucky enough to get a dud or even a DOA unit.
^ It’s a shame but that might be the most sensible option.
I hear mostly positive things about Fanatec wheels. But a release isn’t much more than speculation at this point. I too was hoping to pick up a wheel for the release of Project Cars. Guess I have a little over a month to think about it. I think a wheel would be a really nice touch to the sim experience, which is why I’m torn between these two. FWIW the TX is on Amazon new for less than $300. But they still gouge you for the shifter and pedals.
I did a lot of research on both wheels and decided on the Thrustmaster wheel and very happy with the wheel I own a Fanatec csr wheel for the 360 which is and awesome wheel but I just couldn’t throw down the 800.00 dollars for the Fanatec xbox one wheel and its not yet compatible for the one and it will not be compatible to 360 with all that being said the thrustmaster is a good wheel I like it as much as my fanatec only bad is I had to spend an extra 100.00 dollars on ebay for the clutch petal set, and I have to set the sensitivity setting on the wheel each time I power up the xbox one to race. The mad cats wheel I’ve only heard bad, cheap. One think to point out I bought the Thrustmaster wheel online from Walmart and purchased a three year warranty for 30 dollars full replacement.

I think if I were to settle on the Thrustmaster, then investigating warranties with the retailers would be a wise option.
As stated above your options are not great, I own a tx wheel and never had any problems there’s about 10 of us with wheels and only one had a problem which thrustmaster is replacing so no worries there I only paid £220 you can get a good deal if you look around, the brake pedal is not the best but can be modded so easy and cheap even free if you got bits and bobs lying around plenty of vids about on this, the wheel itself is good I’ve had no problems using it button layout is fine just no support for looking left and right when using auto clutch which hopefully gets sorted for fm6! Overall I’d say it’s a great wheel for the money and brings the game back to life especially if you race in a series
That’s my opinion hope it’s helps anyone out there looking
^ Thanks, that’s exactly the kind of input I’m looking for. At this point I’m leaning towards the TX. Perhaps the quality issues get overstated online, where you typically only leave feedback if you’re unhappy.
A good option could be. Which is also what I’m looking to get is the logitech g27 can get for about £150 has clutch pedal also and you’ll need the converter for xbox one which you can get for about £75 maxrace f1 v4 . Can anyone shed any light about this and what opinions may be?
The MaxRace still tricks the Xbox One into thinking you have a controller plugged in, but it also takes the Left Analog sticks left and right values and stretches it along your steering wheel. From the looks of things, there is a ton of slack on center. I’d never buy it.
If I were pulling the trigger today, I’d get a TX. I am a patient man, and I can deal with returns and shipping. Price is the primary reason I would get the TX. The TX is $100.00 less than when it first went on sale. Not exactly ideal, but it’s the less expensive entry point for a FFB wheel on the Xbone. I wish they would sell the base alone, and allow me to buy just the wheel rim and pedals I want, without having to get the 458 rim and the non-clutch pedal set. But Thrustmaster seems to be content with what would be a plug-n-play wheel set. That’s understandable.
I wonder why the price went up from $293.00 at Amazon? New batch without problems? I can only hope, but it’s probably because demand has waned.

It’s still $293 from Amazon, it’s out of stock so they are showing you other seller’s prices. Newegg has them in stock for that price but if you wanted to you can still buy from Amazon and they will ship when they become available. Just click the new and used link and look for the one that says the seller is Amazon.
FWIW, I have about 1,700 hours logged in FM5/H2 with no issues with the TX beyond reseating the rim a couple of times …
YMMV, WAC, etc.

Good to know. Hopefully I will be one of the fortunate ones who never has a problem with their TX wheel. I’m gonna say forget it, and get one. Playing FM5 with the controller; while fun, just isn’t the same as playing FM4 with the CSR.
That reminds me. I got to contact Basherboards and see if his pedal adapter works with the basic CSR pedals. They most likely don’t, but it doesn’t hurt to ask.

It does not. CSR Elite and Clubsport V1/V2 only.
