Now while we all know that the Steering wheel rig is much better suited (and also the most expensive), I was just wondering if anyone has actually tried all of these and figured out an extensive difference?
Mainly, are you shaving seconds off your lap time? Milliseconds? or with the right practice are they the same?
By the same token (and we’ve argued this stuff since FM3) a fast, skilled player generally is very quick also on another device. It isn’t the controller or wheel which makes a person quick, it is their skill.
My lap times are generally ~1 second slower using my G920 vs. the normal XboxOne controller. This was also the case on the 360, normal gamepad vs. MS wireless wheel. I can end up setting personal bests with a wheel but it’s only after 20 or so laps in a given car on a given track to muscle memory all the nuances of that combo. While I’m slower with a wheel I’m also 10x happier using it.
Good point. I agree that the wheel is flat out much more fun for me regardless of lap times. It feels a lot more realistic when compared to real world track driving.
There may be times when times are your primary focus, but the fun factor weighs more heavily for me.
I have all three and I’m dead even between the elite controller and G920 in terms of speed. Slight edge to the wheel as it is the most comfortable option for me. The elite is pretty awesome for the customization available, I run mine with slightly taller sticks.
The controller is the quickest. Because it’s easier to use and be quick. There’s nothing between elite & std controller unless you are struggling with button use for the clutch. I have all 3 & I can beat my controller times but have to work 5 times harder on my fanatec.
Also Snowowl is correct 99% are on the controller, and there is certainly a question of skill level on all devices.
I have all three too. Just bought the Elite Xbox bundle to use in Hotel when Traveling for work (I know… Its a sickness!). I raced with My Thrustmaster TX setup (TX/T3PA/TH8A) for all racing done in FM6 up until a couple of weeks ago…
While I agree that 99% of leader board times may be logged on a controller, It is important to note that 99% (plus) players utilize a controller. I know many other Wheel Drivers who are ridiculously fast too. The wheel IS a different animal though, and takes a different style. Frankly, if you regularly hang a car out and slide a lot through most corners on a controller… then try to do the same on a wheel… You WILL (very Probably) be much slower. If your driving style is tight, methodical, and well rooted in good racing technique… Then the transition from Wheel to Controller to Wheel should have very little effect.
I am not the best at either, but do enjoy the immersion and full body involvement of driving with the wheel much better… I can usually hang with the front runners too and do manage my own share of wins… Still, I know some wheel drivers (and Controller drivers) who’s skill will eclipse mine.
I do like the Elite Controller much more than the standard for Forza… I don’t really have the paddles down yet with this game though, so generally race without them and stick to default button layout… I have played around with the Left Stick input mapping though… Having the ability to adjust the curve of position/steering input for several points has proved to be helpful… More so with some cars than others, but still a significant improvement over standard controller. The longer sticks are nice too for more granular control.
yes definatley worth it i got one for £160 the build qaulity is loads better and the customization is excellent, i play racers and shooters so i set 2 profiles for each with different vibrations and stick sensitivity, now i dont have to tap the sticks so much on long bends on forza now
I could not believe the price and therefore looked it up at Amazon.de (I live in Germany) and it is 229€ (That is 249 USD or 361 Australian Dollars^^) here. That is ridiculous and not the release price. Seems a Price enough People are willing to pay though.
You could buy 5 normal XBox One Controllers with 229€
while it is a good controller it’s really not worth that much…it’s quality built and has plenty of options but that price is way above recommended retail..you would be better off getting one sent from the US or Canada, even Australia (we pay way too much for these sorts of things)..but that price is ridiculous
I’d love a wheel for immersion, but when I’m online I use the third person view because the first person view kills my situational awareness. It’s really difficult to know what’s going on around you with zero peripheral vision. I don’t think that view would play well with a wheel.
If they implemented a spotter system that told you what was around you I’d go back to the inside of the car and would love a wheel.
