So I’m thinking about buying an Xbox Elite Controller. I am currently using a regular Xbox 360 wired controller.
I’m wondering if anyone currently uses one and if so, what they think about it. Or if anyone has the experience of using both at some time and is able to tell me the pros and cons of each.
My current Xbox 360 controller and every one I’ve ever used has a little bit of “play” in the joysticks, which I hate. I’m wondering if the Elite controller has (or will develop this problem eventually)?
Another concern I have is that there is no wired Elite controller and I know that input response times are slightly quicker for a wired controller. I know something like this matter much more for a game like an FPS for example, but still the issue is there.
Anyway, I know that the elite controller isn’t going to make me a massively better player, although it may make me slightly (0.1% better) depending on the answers you guys give me and what the controller actually does for me.
Don’t. The Elite build quality is worse than a standard controller. I know I have had like 8 elite controllers exchanged. The last one I exchanged I have never used. I give up. I can’t believe they let me exchange it that many times at MS Store lol. I got faster when I switched back to a regular controller. The stick mechanism breaks easier on the Elite than standard. The rubber grips come off the sides, the bumper is fragile and the rubber comes off the top of the sticks in 3 mths. The revised standard is pretty good. I just put a skin around it to make it more comfortable $10 and stick covers from Insignia at Best Buy which were like $5. Get an extended warranty even for standard if you can and definitely if you go with the Elite. I’m not sure about the Scuff controller, maybe they are built better?
Had the problem with the rubber coming off the grips. The glue wore off due to heat over time. Replaced them with scuff grips which are much better. That said you seem very heavy handed to damage so many.
The trigger stops help with consistent braking. I rarely lock up while hitting the optimal brake pressure. At the same time the car struggles with hairpins. Not sure why but the elite doesn’t appear to have as much range in the stick.
I hear an Elite controller V2 is on the way, fixing common faults with the original so it would be better to either wait or buy a standard Xbox one controller for the trigger rumble. This alone helps with traction and braking and many top players struggle without it.
The trigger feedback is important, I don’t know how anyone could drive without it especially if you want to turn assists off. FYI PS4 controllers have no trigger feedback and apparently do not work well. I stopped using the trigger lock anyway for ABS off. It won’t brake enough at times but it was good as a starting point for learning it. You can buy clip on trigger locks I’m pretty sure if you really want that. I am pretty heavy handed but it was marketed as a stronger longer lasting controller and it has a lot of issues.
The controllers become wired when you use the usb cable. Reduces input latency on Xbox (I do this when hotlapping) and I have no way to connect it to my pc other than by cable which proves it can function as both wired and wireless.
It probably would not break playing shooters but I know a few people that broke the bumpers. I never had any problems with 360 controllers like this. I still have the original one and the stick is fine.
Got To agree I am on Elite Controller number 3 now and same problems they messed up the Thermal bonding of the rubber Grips to the Controller base. But that is the only problem I have had Car control is better.
Also No Blue Tooth in the Elite the Bog Standard Xbox Controller dose have Blue Tooth I got annoyed enough with it that I orders a second Standard Controller was going to go for the design your own but we don’t get that here and Microsoft won’t do Postage to Australia Had designed a nice Blue and silver one only to find nope can not have.
I will be Ordering a Full Scuff Grip kit for mine as is not to much and replacing what I can on the Brand New Elite Controller I now have after exchange number 3.
I would put it off till They release a new one to replace the Current Elite at Least that one will have Blue Tooth so no need to run cables or buy a Xbox One Controller dongle for your computer.
Don’t get me wrong is a very good controller just has some build designs but if you replace what you can with Scuff gear you will be happy and you pockets will be lighter as not a cheap controller.
I am still with my first elite controller too, well I don’t use it so much cause I mostly use the wheel but after 2 years the only problem was a bit of glue on the grip rubber, maybe my fault cause I was holding it over my fat Xbox one élite.
I have 4 official Xbox one controllers, all out of warranty, and all of them have drift issues on the left stick. Deadzones are off, and no, sticks are not dirty inside.
It’s just cheap quality.
Never had issues with ds1, ds2, ds3, ds4, Xbox 360 controllers. It’s just the Xbox one’s.
I can’t drive in forza, i can’t play bf1 and fifa anymore. I need to buy a new controller and this time I’ll make sure to extend the warranty.
So I don’t know if it’s worth spending even more money on the elite controller.
Sounds like an easy fix, there. A tiny bit of deadzone tends to fix a tiny bit of drift. It’s how Christopher Walken stopped wandering to the left. True story.
Standard Xbox one controller is good when it’s working.
For me there is something at the bottom of the stick inside the controller that breaks after 6 months to a year. At first the left stick feels wobbly and not as precise, then you here a loud pop noise and from there you can only take left turns. The car will go straight for right hand turns.
After it pops, if you press down on the left stick and move it around you can feel the bottom of the stick moving all over the place.
I’ve broken the left stick 5 times that I can remember of which I broke it twice for my day one controller (had it sent off for repairs). My current controller (which is my spare) is over a year old and there is a lot of play in the thumbstick. Makes it hard to consistently hit corners. My newest controller broke last weeks after 9 months of which i only used it for maybe 5 months.
I wish the standard Xbox one controller was more reliable.
I bought an elite @ the start of the year purely to play hardcore in FM and it works a treat. The attraction to the elite for me was the ability to assign button commands to the trigger positions at the back which makes clutch operation reasonably simple. Shifting the the stick clicks to the back triggers for playing Saints Row/Fallout and other first person shooter games is an added bonus. I’ve had the rubber grips start to come off but it’s nothing that a few drops of super glue can’t fix. Other than that mine has been pretty sweet. Mine cost me A$200 via the MS shop which I think was good value considering that FM is the main reason that I play in the first place. Overall it feels more solid and well built than my standard XB1 controller, but maybe I’m just lucky compared to other posters. I still think that my old school XB360 controller feels better!!
I have had Elite controllers since their inception and I love them I have dexterity issues caused by arthritis so manual gears were almost impossible and manual with clutch totally impossible but with the Elites flappy paddle gear changes the whole game has changed for me. Don’t get me wrong its no magic bullet that allows you to compete with the big boys of Forza but I originally had auto box as my racing setup but now using the Elite I’ve shaved between 5-10 secs of my lap times and I now appear in the top 1,000 in many of the tracks.
I guarantee you will get faster you can’t not with the flappy paddle set up but although the controller has a much sturdier solid feeling it does have some of the build quality problems other xbox controllers suffer from so that high price is probably too high considering this. However most probs are repairable so if you know anybody handy with electronics and just as good with a soldering iron like I have most issues are repairable without much expense and if your guy\gal knows what they are doing they might make it better and more durable than it was before. Face it controllers are the weak link in a gamer’s armoury and always have been and considering the stresses and strains plus (road rage incidents eg: bouncing controllers off walls) they actually fare quite well for us but basically I love the Elite when it works it is amazing when it goes wrong it sucks that’s why I bought two.
Most of the time they are repairable and all the parts required are out their on the net and most of us could with a little effort and time find somebody to do the repair or even better learn how to fix it ourselves whether you pay £60 quid for a standard wireless controller or go £120 for the Elite you know your buying something that in comparison to the build quality of your console is a complete pile of crap. It’s a peripheral so it’s not made to last that’s why there is such a choice of replacement controllers it’s so you can replace your controller on a regular basis because they go wrong on that same regular basis so you have a choice outside of your guarantee period dump it buy a new one or fix it most are fixable inside your warranty period send it back for a replacement run it into the dirt and do the same again.
Most electronics come into existence with built in obsolescence this just means when a new updated product hits the market it’s own replacement is already designed and ready for production this means your electronic toys replacement is all ready for release so you have to buy the next better and shinier console, computer, phone or tv. This just means that when your controller or console finally gives up the ghost its next rebirth is right their begging you to buy it so you discard the old when it could be fixed or passed on to somebody who would appreciate it as much as you appreciate your brand new electronic toy. Will any of us do that probably not I still have my 360 and my Xbone I now use as a blu ray player while I play on my brand shiny new XboneX one day I might hand them to a charity or for recycling but i’m just not ready to just yet are you.
The elite controller is better than a standard one in so many ways. After a week of purchasing my Xbox One X, I bought an elite controller and haven’t used the one that came with the console since then.
Cornering is better with elite specially if you equip it with the long stick. You can also adjust the stick sensitivity.
Trigger lock is important for those who lock up easily while braking.
Paddle shifters make Forza more immersive for controller users.
I haven’t had any problem with any of my Xbox controllers. Ever! The fact that some of you guys are breaking them tells me that you might be too rough with yours. Video game-induced anger could be culprit.
The elite feels better in hands, it is slightly heavier than the standard one. It helps in other games too. I do not regret spending the $150 on it.
Well, with the dramatically mixed reviews on these forums I’m gonna go ahead and stick with my current Xbox 360 controller and once it breaks or the joystick is way too loose I’ll go ahead and buy an Xbox One controller due to the suggestion of a poster above.
Unless someone lets me try out their Elite controller for a week or so I don’t think I’m going to get it, but I don’t have many friends or…rather I only have 1 friend irl so I doubt that’ll ever happen lol
It seems that Microsoft is planning on releasing Elite Controller v2 by the end of this year. The new appears to be even more advanced than the current one. Check out this article I found about it on Windows Central.
