It’s been on the preview program for a while, at least the new experience version, and I must say it’s rather disappointing.
It lets you remap ahh one button to any one other button, basically like a button swap. It does not allow for input to be remapped - you can remap the left thumbstick for example but not the left thumbstick being clicked down. Perhaps this changes with the new controller release.
The there are the GUI issues and actual app instability. I played with the app a bit and the button remapping would not persist 100% of the time which was rather annoying. It also cause button mapping issues within forza after i had reset everything to default. The biggest example being it kept switching rewind and look back numerous times in a race which resulted in some frustrations wile racing.
I’m really excited for this controller so I’m hoping that Microsoft has used all the feedback and experience from the preview program to make everything function perfectly for general release.
I used this controller a few weeks back at Euro gamer. The controller is an absolute beast.
The back paddles were assigned to gearing up on the right and down on the left. Made Forza so much more immersive for controller users.
As far as i know you will map the buttons via the controller App. it will make it more of a unified system and negates developers the need to add the mapping into each game
Pro’s buy scuf controllers. Wannabes buy microsofts elite controller. elite controller has preset trigger stops.not that much better than a normal controller. scuf has custom from nothing to full trigger press
I’m not sure that makes sense. If I’m not a pro, wouldn’t buying what the pro’s use make me a wannabe??? Also, MS Elite controller isn’t out yet, so how is anyone buying it?
On a separate note, I think the Microsoft controller will be better for racing games thanks to the three different thumbsticks. The hair triggers and trigger stops only really have full relevance in fps games, I had a scuf on 360 and only ever used it for cod online, was useless for battlefield as the trigger stops meant vehicles only crawled along.
I have preordered the elite controller and cannot wait for it. I will use the back paddles to shift gears. The app for the elite controller will map the buttons. I’m on the preview program and I have the new ui installed and already has the app in the new ui and I think you will be able to map the standard controllers in the future.
$150 plus tax is too much for back paddles on a controller. Yes, I know it has other features but I would not spend more than $100 on a controller. I do have 2 regular controllers and would consider selling one of them to help save on the cost. But I want to wait for a big sale on these before consideration. Cheers.
To answer the OP: The Elite controller has a special app you have to install to remap/adjust the controller settings. The controller can store up to 2 profiles on at a time and you can switch between them. You can store extra profiles on your Xbox and swap them out as needed. This is so the Elite controller can be used as if it is a regular controller on any Xbox One with any Xbox One game, regardless if it has the Elite app installed or not.
FALSE.
The Xbox One controller triggers do not read the last 5% of travel. It’s super annoying when I have deadzones set to 0-100 and I can wiggle the trigger the last 5% with no difference in control.
An adjustable trigger stop could stop the trigger before I reach that last 5% of nothing and then I could adjust my deadzones appropriately
(NOTE: The Micorsoft Elite controller does not have adjustable trigger stops. They are set at 50% and can’t be changed)
What a ridiculous statement considering very few people have even used one yet.
Scuf controllers are entirely hardware modifications. You can only remap the custom paddles on the back.
The Microsoft Elite Controller lets you adjust sensitivities, remap ALL buttons/triggers/sticks and many other options that the regular Scuf controllers cannot do. (Also, the Elite controller is built by Scuf so if you’re doubting the build quality, you are sadly mistaken).
Plus I think the Elite has a much more elegant design. The Scuf Infinity is ugly as sin.
OK, today is the day for the elite controller. I don’t have one, and I’d like to hear from the lucky few that got hold of this beast and give us your first impression by playing this game.
I would, but the idea of having a wheel with pedals sitting around the living room is a non-starter with the girlfriend. I’m just trying to figure out if it really is more immersive than the standard controller.
I miss that cheap U-shaped wheel for the 360. It wasn’t perfect, but it worked well enough and you didn’t have to deal with a huge honking wheel setup sitting around. f
