Spa challenge experiences

You can’t do this in a private lobby? Couldn’t you just make a timed race for 90 min with F1 cars?

It won’t give you the rolling achievement.

I completed it twice consecutively.

First time, crying baby took 20+ minutes of my race during which I let the car sit parked. Not sure how many cars started but enough that my 3rd place of the 3 finishers got me a bronze. I completed 169 miles.

Second go. 10 starters. Started near the back. Went and hoped for the best as far as cars behind me went in turn 1. Made it through a melee in turn 1. And was up to 2nd by the end of the first lap. I caught the leader and tried to be patient in passing. Made a couple runs that I backed down from the pass as I didn’t have room and the guy wasn’t cutting me any slack at all. Eventually committed to a pass after a couple laps. He came down on me and hit me when I was completely along side him, I took no damage, not sure what happened with him as he fell back quite a bit but I know he maintained 2nd. In the early laps a wrecker took a swipe at me, made minor contact, no damage.

I lead the race from the time I took the lead and there were no real further incidents until it came to lapping the same guy still running in 2nd. he braked too late at the end of the straight after Eau Rouge and I quickly caught him in that complex as a result. I got along side him on his left coming through the last turn of that complex so I was on the outside. I gave him all the room possible staying to the outside of the track, he came across my nose on turn exit, spinning himself out. He called me something that will be edited if I say it. He was a lap ahead of third already but quit right after that. this contact didn’t damage my car either.

I actually made it the entire race without an unscheduled pit stop due to damage. I used a two stop strategy in the race, tires got to about 40% wear this way. There was a definite decline in grip by the time I pitted. With 5 minutes left I had caught up to the 2nd place running car to lap him for what I believe to be the third time. The baby started crying again and I felt secure in my 3 lap lead and parked to tend to the baby. I had been turning about 23 miles per 10 minutes. I won with a 6 mile lead and a total of 204 miles. I think in the last couple minutes the 2nd and 3rd cars stopped running as well. 4th and 5th seemed like they had stopped shortly after getting 140 miles but I didn’t look at their final tallies. 5 cars were all that were in the room at the end.

I was lucky and got into a lobby pretty quickly . Ten people started and I was 9th or 10th on the grid. Straight away the three people in front of me were wreckers and braked hard wiping me out. They then quit pretty quickly. I limped round and pitted and carried on without troubling the leaders , I was lapped a few times by the first three. Two more dropped ut after about thirty minutes leaving five of us just lapping at our own pace. I had went off a couple of times and had one bad crash when I slowed and pulled over to let a lapping car through who also pulled over to overtake and we collided. I carried on to the end and finished with a low total distance of about 170 miles. My best lap was four miles.

Finished 2nd with 195 miles. 5 of 10 starters finished, and everybody met the distance target. Started on pole and got a good enough launch to avoid big pile-up in the first turn. I was leading when I came off at the second right hand corner after the Kemmel Straight (straight after Eau Rouge) without damage until someone rear ended while I tried to wait for them to pass. Pitted and still had the lead and possibly would have had a great race with the eventual winner, but a ghost car became solid at the last second, ruining any chance of our battle continuing. This is the third time in one of these special lobbies that I got taken out of contention by either someone who didn’t have a lot of experience with the car or by an idiot who just wants to wreck everybody. 3 things I have to say about this nonsense. 1) Make fuel conpsumpsion and tire ware separate from damage. Too many people either can’t deal with a wounded car or are to stupid to realize they can fix the damage by pitting. I know Forza 2 and 3 (I didn’t play Forza 1 so I don’t know if it did) had these two as separate options. 2) Put people together who are around the same driver level. A newbie at level 17 does not belong driving a F1 car with people in the high 500’s. People who are serious about racing get frustrated by people who are either inexperienced or are playing the game because it is a video game. A suggestion for future Forza Motorsport games, make it so you have to be a certain Driver Level to race in each class, or, have to have a certain amount of drive time/experience in the class to participate online. 3) Ghost cars have got to stop. If the car I hit was solid before I got to him, I would’ve tried to avoid it. But because it was a ghost, I let my guard down and assumed he would stay a ghost. I’m sure other people can admit to the same problem. As I see it, there are 3 solutions. Put collision always on, ghost only if you’re just sitting there or driving the wrong way, or (if damage is on) make it so if you take too much damage, you DNF. Other racing games and simulators like Grid, iRacing, and the Nascar series gave you a spotter/crew chief/race engineer that let you about accidents going on around the track. Just another suggestion for future Forza Motorsport games.

A bunch of people posted lap times, how do you know a lap time? I’ve never seen that it shows you lap times in these endurance races? Does it keep track behind the scenes and if you turn your best lap does it just show on the leaderboard?

It doesn’t show the lap time during the event but the leaderboard for X class Spa showed my best time set on 8/25

Dang it, if I had known that I would have made more of an effort to run clean laps. I still mostly try to be clean but without the lap time motivation during the race it is difficult. Especially when you can’t even see the clean or dirty status during the lap. I will have to check the leaderboard and see what it shows. I wonder if I set my best lap in any of the other endurance races now.

I watched Mechberg run his on Saturday. Then I got motivated and ran mine myself. Started with 12, I started 11th, so no one behind me. I just sat for about 40 seconds. That worked out really well. I was able to pass a few spinouts and made my way to sixth. Most people were dropping as I was passing, and a few laps in I was up to sixth. Then, 15 minutes or so in and the guy in front of me spun on eau rouge. I went full on throttle, wide left into it… and surprise surprise, he just jumps back onto track, and he didn’t stay right, he came out wide left. I blasted that guy at about 185 maybe a little more. He cursed ME out in German, I didn’t even reply… I even gave him the benefit of the doubt going slow to let him get back in front of me, and he bumped me as he was going past. Gotta love it, when someone makes their own mistake and I get blamed for it.

Anyways, so I manage to get around the track, drifting most of it and barely going 80 most of the way around. I get in the pits, the German guy is just pulling out of the pits at this point. I get fixed and take off. In 8th place at this point. Then for the rest of the race it was uneventful, people dropped out and I passed two and was up to fourth. I pit late for tires (33 minutes to go) and passed the German guy while he was in the pits at about 43 minutes. I caught the second place guy in the final minutes but I wasn’t making up time fast enough. Ended up in third of 6 with 198miles with second place about 5 car lengths ahead of me. German guy ended up at 194 miles and first had 202 miles.

I was so looking forward to this event, despite the length of it. But I had a few spare hours on sunday night so I decided to give it a go. After trying over 20 times to find a lobby that wasn’t already racing, I finally found one and it had 11 players! So off we went. Race started and I waited back to let the silly players sort themselves out on the first corner. After passing them, I was third about mid lap. As I went to pass the second place player, he side-swiped me on purpose. I saw it coming but I didn’t avoid it because I usually forgive and forget and end up passing this type of looser anyway. But then to my surprise I noticed the damage info! I swear I didn’t read it anywhere that damage was going to be forced on! So I limped to the pits, and after exiting the pits I was back to last place. I nearly gave up, but decided to keep going anyway. By the time I completed the next lap I was already up to 5th place, but found it very hard to pass people as they all seemed overwhelmed with the F1 car’s handling and power! I tried my best to avoid them but I’ve never seen so many people waive their cars around and crash like that! And on top of that there was also the usual nutbags that ram and wreck others on purpose… But I soldiered on. So after 20 laps, I had to pit 5 times to fix damage caused by others, but I was still 3rd and only cut corners to avoid crazy drivers. Another 3 laps later and I took first place. At least 1 player left per 5 laps or so on average and at the end of the race there were only 4 of us left, but I finished over 5 laps in front of the first looser (aka second place).

I wouldn’t call it a fun or pleasant experience, much less a race. But I persisted and came out on top after fighting my way through the entire race. Not sure I would ever do this sort of thing again. Not for this long a race!

redid this again last night, came 1st this time, still had to pit 4 times due to one persistent troll who I would come across once every 5 laps or so, manged 205 miles this time, again could of been so much more if it wasnt for limping to pits so often!

If you don’t include my 8 trips to the pits thanks to two crashers, it was a great event.

Started with 8 players… ended with 4 of us–me, another clean racer, and the two crashers.

Hung back on the start line to let the first turn and Eau Rouge carnage clear out. Was up to second by the end of the Kemmel Straight and passing all the smoking/limping cars.

Really makes me wish for mid-race kicking abilities on longer events, but of course, that would lead to people kicking the fastest drivers too. Maybe there’s someway to make that work.

I ran the race Three times I had to quit halfway through the third race (to many trolls wrecking me)
the first two races were cleaner well over 210 miles almost To Easy really …
A lot of people quit because they didn’t know the pits were open LOL

I had fun for the most part … getting wrecked and being sent to the pits over 5 times in ten laps was crazy annoying though…
I got the sense the car was to hard for beginner drivers to feel comfortable getting out of the way of faster drivers…
I loved the damage!

I will start by saying this was the most action packed, eventful and exciting race in my entire Forza career.

Here is the first lap - YouTube
I was looking good after the 1st but was taken out after I passed first place on the 2nd lap and was 6th place 5 mins in. Then 11 mins into the race i was back in the pits(in 7th place with first pitting right behind me) after I caught 3rd and both of us messed up and crashed into each other. So now I’m in 7th place with 1st about 5 seconds behind me with 1 hour and 19 mins to play catch up.

Now after driving the wheels off the car for an hour I’m in 2nd place with +70% wear on all tires and I pass first as he pits with 24 mins remaining. Only prob is I have to pit next lap, so I pit and go back to 2nd with 22 mins remaining. Now for some reason 1st pits again the next lap, that gives me 1st place with 20 mins left and I think to myself “I got this locked up now”.

Well that same lap I get to Rivage and the unthinkable happens, The Xbox store some how opens and pops up over Forza( kinect is off, disabled, no voice commands). I manage to press xbox button select Forza and get back to racing, now in 2nd place with 18:50 left. YT is having a prob processing it or I’d have a link for that to. And for the rest of the race I did not run a slower lap than 1:49.000(yes I’m a nerd and went back watched the last 24 mins with a stop watch timing my laps)

Now with 9 mins 20 seconds left I was really close to 1st when he took turn 13 to wide and hit the dirt, BOOM I’m in first and end up winning by 2 miles. Had to change shirts after the race as it was soaked.

I had so much fun the first time I ran it again the next day with 2 buddies. this time I made it to first un-crashed by the 5th lap ran a gem of a race only had to pit once at 45 mins because I figured halfway through was perfect for tire wear. With 6 mins left in this race I was about to lap 2nd place(one of my buddies) when someone showed up at the casa and I had to go so I pulled over in the dirt and ended up in 3rd with my 2 buddies in 1st and 2nd. Also set a personal best 1:47.616 lap during this race.

Great times for sure. And sorry to hear some of you guys races were ruined by crashers that’s a shame.

I had a pretty good lobby, a few scares because of lag but no accidents. I heard of a few with other people, unintentional though so it was quite clean which I was amazed with. Managed to run 1st almost the whole race. I held the #1 no assist time (surprisingly enough) around Spa for X before and I was able to reset it by a couple hundredths which I was definitely happy about. I had some viewers telling me approximate lap times while I was racing, that was pretty awesome too :).

Overall, my challenge was quite pleasant. I’m always afraid of the X class races with damage, I always go in expecting the worse but this one turned out well for me.
