Spa challenge experiences

Xbox live has been having achievement issues. Don’t stress though. Check in 24 hours and you should have the cheevo.

I had a blast, after a few bum lobby entries in the beginning - finally got placed in a decent group. Naturally the first lap on the first hairpin(as I’ve read happens 99% of the time for these events), got rear-ended by some smart guy that doesn’t understand the concept of braking correctly, limped back to the pit after getting side swiped twice. I’m shocked I made it to the pit. After that, a few others pitting and me making some passes over time, ended up in 2nd for most of the race. Got passed by a dude that was simply floating in mid air knocking me to third. Stayed in 3rd until the last 4 minutes of the event and then I get the dreaded "70% Tire Wear’ etc. there was no way I could finish on those tires with the limit I was pushing so I pit and am naturally knocked off of a podium finish. Did although finish 4th, which for my first event like that, think I did an okay job. Good stuff though, an hour and a half of pure adrenaline. Want more.

I can’t even start it. My Internet’s too terrible to play any Xbox One games properly.

I gave up playing the Xbox One online a while ago, but I saw this event and thought I’d give it a try.
So, I waited ten minutes for the race to start (there was about thirty minutes left when I joined), and was then disconnected.
Now every lobby I can join has at least an hour left. It makes me sad.

For some reason, though, Xbox 360 games work fine, so I’ve been playing Halo: Reach a lot. :stuck_out_tongue:

I feel your pain brother. My internet became unreliable about a month ago when Time Warner combined our node with some others. My wife and I get booted out of our work servers every 30 min. or so. I tried to run the Spa race 7 times this weekend and got booted each time after 45 min. or so. I tried one last time tonight and got into a pretty good lobby, got booted with 28 min. left.

During my 6 or 7 hours of unfinished races, I noticed that after about 20 min. I start gaining on most of the lobby, or lapping them. My thoughts are that since I race with a wheel my hands aren’t getting tired and I am running consistent laps. I also use Fanatec CS pedals with a Basher Board adapter so my braking is more consistent than with stock TM pedals. My strategy was to run consistent clean 1:48ish laps, not mix it up when passing and win by taking advantage of fatigue. It seemed to be working, but my ISP had other plans for me.

I have a tech coming tomorrow to hopefully fix our connection issue. Unfortunately not in time to complete Spa, but maybe in time for the Italian Grand Prix endurance race at Monza in two weeks. I saw some rumors that the track had been lazer scanned:)

I would be over the moon happy if they released another track for Forza 5, any new content actually would be amazing!!

This was one of the more… contentious challenges out of the 3 I’ve done total, but it turned out good in the end.

First attempt, I got into a lobby with about 10-11 players, waited about 15 minutes until race start… and see that I start out near the front, in second place. “Oh boy,” I think, “this’ll be messy for me in the first corner.” Boy was that an understatement. As I tried to hug the inside to snake through the hairpin as quickly as possible, my car gets blasted literally off the map by a crasher behind me, sending me spiraling out of track bounds, through the scenery and into the infinite void, so the race was over for me right there.

Second try, I got into an 8-player race, and it started out very frustrating. Getting damaged through the first or second corner, I limp my way around the track in 6th place, only to MISS the pits before the 2nd lap!

Next pit attempt, I manage to get in, and as I’m pitting I get a party invite from a friend. Well, let this be a lesson to NEVER accept invites while you’re pitting! Turns out doing so causes your car to skip to pits altogether and run through to the other side without fixing/refueling anything. >_< …I finally manage to get in the pits and get fixed up on the 3rd lap, by which time the leader is a LONG ways away.

I raced hard and stuck with it, though, cleanly passing and lapping all but the leader for over an hour, until I finally caught up to him while he was in the pits and got into 1st place with 10 minutes to go. From there on I managed to stay in front until the end. Definitely the closest, most intense challenge I’ve done so far. Looking forward to the next one!

One of the worst races I’ve done, they should honestly shut the damage off for these races. I was leading for about 30 minutes and of course some idiot In the race is hitting everyone on purpose. I was having a good race with 3rd and 2nd place. All of us got hit. I had to pit over 6 times due to one person. Later on with about 25 minutes to go I caught and passed 3 rd. Then with 20 minutes left to go first place was back in the pits from the same guy. I thought I had 1st locked down but than got hit 3 more times from the same person. I finished 3 laps behind 1st and 2nd. I know is doesn’t matter if you finish in last place, you still get the achievement but it’s really bad that we can’t have a normal, fun, race. Turn 10 should really do something about this, but hey, when have they ever listened to any of their fans?

I’m guessing the idea behind damage on for the endurance races is to make it feel more like a real race by forcing use of the pits. That’s a great idea in theory. But, given the problems this game has with crashers/griefers, they may want to re-evaluate that for future races. It’s one thing when a griefer hoses you in a three-lap race. To have sixty minutes or so ruined by somebody is something I know I’d have a big problem with. That, plus the simple logistical problems (getting time for 2+ hours to race with a shaky Internet connection) are why I don’t do these endurance challenges.

Absolute WORST experience I have had in one of these events. Managed to get in a lobby with at least 2, possibly 3 intentional wreckers. Every time I clawed my way back up to 3rd, one of the jokers would crash me out again. One of them that was way back in 2nd to last place would slow down and swerve all over the road when you got close and then PIT maneuver you when you finally tried to go around. If I had the time, I would have bailed and joined another lobby, but this was the only window I had for the event before it closed. Was running first for the first 1/2 hour until a back marker ran me off the road and then we collided when I came back on. Took me a few minutes to limp (note to self, find the pit in BEFORE the race) and actually find the pit entrance. Got put back to 4th, finally caught up with 3rd and then damaged my front wing when he practically came to a stop on the way in to the bus-stop chicane - pulled right in to pit. Finally caught back up and passed him only to be taken out by the worst of the crashers. By the end of the race, I finally caught back up to 3rd as it ended.

Sad when there are only 7 people, one spending the entire time limping around smoking up the track and two keep wrecking you out.

I just finished it with 195 miles in 4th place. The guy in the lead had 215 miles. I don’t exactly suck, but I am regularly smoked, and I have no idea why.

Anyway, the racing experience. I was in 3 accidents, one of which was probably though not definitely my fault, one revenge for the first one, and one with 25 minutes left with the leader of the race that was definitely his fault.

The first one was right in the beginning. I laid back through La Source and Eau Rouge-Radillion, and then floored it down the straight to the first chicane, drafting the guy in front of me from a reasonable distance. I wanted to run clean, after all. Well, he either wasn’t familiar with the brakes on an F1 car, I got too anxious, or he was brake checking me, and I came at him with a ton of smash. I almost misse him but still caught his left rear, and that was that. He waited for me and racked me before he quit out.

The last one was a case of the leader taking damage from a backmarker and losing it as a result right in front of me. I couldn’t avoid it.

Overall, though, it wasn’t bad. We started with 11, one never left the starting line and was ghosted all race, and 4 quit. 6th (last) hit his number and parked it, 5th was 2 laps down to me, and the frontrunners were way ahead. I always moved over for the leaders and was never in danger of losing a position. The one time I did get passed for position I was in the pits. When I came out I was right on top of the guy. He panicked and planted himself firmly into the barrier at the first chicane, and that was that.

Of all the endurance challenges I have done thus far this one was by far the easiest. 140 miles was so easy to get that even with the 3 pit stops I had it with 25 minutes left. The other ones left me much tighter on time.

I had to try a couple long-wait lobbies before I found one with 3 minutes remaining. Seven drivers started our race but four dropped out, which left me alone for most of the race. I had to pit twice due to injuries and finished at 199 miles, one lap behind the leader. My best lap time was 1:51.462.

Mechberg ran 202 miles in his race, recorded here: Twitch

Mine was very frisky at the beginning. Got crashed into on the first corner and then again at eau rouge so i limped to the pits while being lapped by 2 or 3 cars out of about 12. I made up places until i got 3rd place and i went into the pits to change tyres and wen exiting i got crashed into by someone behind me also exiting so i had to go into the pits gain next lap and i was 4th. eventually with 10 mins left i made 1st place but i crashed into the barrier at the top of the circuit after the main straight with about 4 mins left and i was limited to 161 mph and 2nd place was about 1 lap behind me and with 10 seconds left he was right behind me on the last 2 corners before the start finish and i finished probably 0.2 secs ahead of him

same kinda experience I had as shown in my post, so for me so far SPA and Silverstone ruined due to this.

Overall, I enjoyed the race - decided to leave the start line slowly so the crazies could do their thing the first few corners and then pick them off one by one.
Had to pit 3 times, twice because of crashers (both times between the pit entrance and eau rouge), the 3rd time I had to pit was my own fault trying to read a text as I exited the pits, hitting the wall, LOL).
Was in 2nd, but a long way off the lead after the 3rd pit stop with about 35-40 mins left, just put my head down and put in quali lap after quali lap and with 6 mins left I passed for the lead - 1st place was just entering the pits as I rounded the bus stop chicane, not sure if he needed tyres or had been hit.
From then on it was just a matter to keeping it clean, so any time was near a back marker I was extremely cautious and even just followed behind one the final 30 seconds, keeping a safe distance.
Finished with 199 miles which was pretty good considering the 3 stops.

Finished the race last Saturday. Had a great time. Had to put up with the usual crashers. Four times I got hit. Once however I hit someone who was trying to make it back to the pits. If that was you. Sorry. That is not how I try to race.

The race started with 12 and finished with 7. I noticed the crashers did not seen to be among the finishers. Overall a great bunch to race with.

Finished about 170 miles. Could have done more except for the incidents. I am really beginning to enjoy these endurance hopper events. Would like to see more on them. The 90 minute events are perfect.

Is this event still running? Right now I can see “90 Minute Spa” on the hopper menu, but when I click on it, it just stays on “Waiting for Match” forever, doesn’t ever go into a lobby. I’ve been waiting about an hour for it to do something, have tried re-joining a couple times. Should have remembered to play this during the weekend I suppose :frowning:

try inviting some friends. I got an invite to race from a friend and joined the room only to find it was 90 min of Spa (and it was already 11:45pm for me). But I stayed in for the race. We didn’t have enough to start, so I sent an invite to another xbox friend and 2 or 3 more randoms joined and the race started. I’m not sure what the minimum is. I think it might be 8?

I’d love to try and get this done before they take it down, but I keep getting put into lobbies with more than an hour left.

I had a good experience at Spa! I really love these endurance races - Although my start was a bit rocky as well - but not because of the first corner crash! Just as the track was loading and race was about to start I got a message that my batteries were low on the controller, so I quickly yanked out the batteries and used the batteries from the 2nd controller. But I couldn’t beat the start nor could warn anyone that my car was going to be stopped at the line because the headset was disconnected! But somehow nobody hit me and were all up on the straight before I got rolling. (Except for one of my friends that hung back to avoid the first corner crash. He started probably 10 sec after me.)

When I caught the first racer (a little less than 1/2 way through) I slowed down looking for a way to get cleanly past but when I finally tried the guy lost in on the grass and turned into me. (probably an accident.) So I limped back to the pits and was passed by my friend and the last place guy. I came out of the pits and on lap 2 caught and passed 2 of the racers at the back and caught the 3rd at the chicane before the start. He braked too late and missed the turn in. i assumed he was just going to cut the corner and I made the quick right turn and then started the quick left only to get crushed into the wall - damaged again! I guess the guys lost control trying to cut the corner and got turned to the right. The good news is I was right at the pit entrance so I pitted again. (this exactly same incident happened to me again about 30 min in at the same chicane and for a lap or 2 I was furious but then got over it.)

on Lap 3, the leader was probably 15 sec behind me but I got into a groove finally and was able to put down many laps before he finally caught me and I let him through. It came down to a race for 1st between the leader from the start and my friend that waited at the start. By buddy took the lead and the win after 2nd place pitted for tires. 3rd place was my other friend that ended up 1/2 lap ahead of me. The rest of the drivers were probably between 5 and 15 laps down at the end. We all had to make multiple unscheduled pits stops after making contact with some of the slower drivers. But I don’t think any of this contact was intentional and it all added to the unpredictability of the race!

I much rather have damage on for a 90 min endurance race than a short 3 lap sprint. On the long races, you at least have a chance to get back into the race and make up ground - and you never know what incidents the guys in front will get into. I had a similar experience with the Silverstone GP. I got taken out twice in the beginning but by the end worked my way through the field and took 2nd place!

These races are great!

I’ve said this every time they do one of these, but just give us the option of having it in a private custom lobby.
