First off, I play on XSX with a well calibrated LG C2 42" OLED.
A lot of things have been said about the graphics already. No surprises there. But it seems the game looks really washed out, flat, and dull. It lacks vibrancy and colour accuracy. But when comparing FM 2023 to other racing games, including the Horizon series, Gran Turismo, Dirt 5, and Grid Legends, I notice a few things.
1: It seems the white balance is off. Which would explain why the colours look so flat and dull.
2: The contrasting also seems wrong, with highlights being blown out, and dark areas looking rather grey than black.
3: Another issue seems to be resolution drops, and most car models looking very pixelated, low-res, and have jagged lines everywhere. Unless Turn10 went for a retro 2002 Windows 98 aesthetic design choice.
I so hope there is some sort of technical issue with the lighting that gets tweaked to bring the colours to life.
My worst fear is we are stuck with this washed out look for the next 10 tears
Most games look fine on my TV and I have it calibrated as well. FM8 seems like it’s overexposed and then they put a yellow filter on to darken the overall image.
It’s a bizarre style choice and I doubt it’ll get fixed unfortunately. Fm7 had similar issues where it looked too dark and contrasting but if you adjusted the brightness the image would be overexposed.
I think both games have an overexposure issue just with a final end result. At this point it’s either an incompetence issue, or an engine issue that should have been fixed.
I’ve had to totally change and tweak my 4K tv settings just to get this game looking somewhat better.
The bug bear is the issue with paint colours not looking accurate and the funky things that happen when painting cars and rims. Let alone the atrocious lighting and camera angles when applying upgrades or painting.
The camera angles and paint booth light are just quality of life issues that I hope we see updated in the long run.
The odd colour idiosyncrasies on the other hand seem like something is just not right.
It definitely makes liveries look terrible. Feels like it’s much worse looking than other racing games for sure. Even photo mode can’t make it look good. Playing on XSX, with calibrated Sony 900e, GT7 looks gorgeous on my setup, as well as starfield and everything else I play.
Hopefully T10 Will Learn from there Mistakes & Not Release a Unfinished Game It’s Not The Developers But the Decision Makers this also Goes for FH5 Horizon Witch Needs a Massive Overhaul Reboot & Should be Called Forza horizon. I’m no Developer But i Come up with Many Different Ideas As well As the Community for Both Franchises & I Get so Frustrated by the Lack of Creativity & Innovation It’s going to be 2024 & Pretty much FM & FH Feel the Same Since FM5 & FH2 with some Differences in Handling Physics & Tyre Model Witch Can Make or Brake Any Racing Game Because it’s the Core Aspect of a Racing Game I’ve Said This before i will Say it Again I’m Passionate About Racing games That I Enjoy Playing & If i see Something or Don’t Like Something About the Game I’m Going to Say Something & so Should you.
Make sure you go to the report issue page & add your vote to the many threads commenting on this problem. Hopefully the graphics will be fixed sooner rather than later.
I am sure this 100% planned. It is to hide really imperfect graphics. If you can’t see problems with the details, you can’t complain about the details.
It’s just like all the alien and UFO photo’s. why do you think they are grainy images? To try fool you.
Why do you think the all benchmark testing youtube dudes are grilling this game. There are inherint issues with the build. Or maybe they have purposely made the game run poorly so people can’t see what’s truly graphically bad. Something to think about. Kind of crazy that you have to have a mindblowing PC to get 60 FPS.
Just so all you XSX users can rest easy knowing your expensive consoles are likely ok. I play through gamepass with an Xbox one S and experience the same graphics shortfalls. So it’s definitely the game.
My unscientific observation is telling me the white balance is a hair too hot (red), there’s not enough blooming/specular reflection on highlights, and colors clip at at high brightness (in direct sunlight) and hot points are grey instead of white. Also, if your tv supports Dolby Vision, TURN IT OFF in Xbox settings. It caps the brightness way too low and significantly worsens color distortion.
I keep thinking to myself as I play FM23, that when I was playing FM3 back in 2010, I was NOT fixating on any goofy graphics issues like what this game brings to the table in every race. How can a company progress backwards like that?? Herky Jerky loading screens, then when the game starts, I’m suddenly clear as a bell running at 100FPS. Race ends, back to the herky jerky screen.
You know, I’m not sure why they didn’t put the game through proper QC before releasing it.
It’s almost as if they either chose the blurry, smeared over, oil-painting like look as an artistic choice or just couldn’t get the QC done due to “management” pushing for release.
It’s very inconsistent and I agree, the textures need to look sharper, the colours, contrast and HDR need to be tweaked and it should just have a more polished look. It doesn’t look like a Series X exclusive to be honest.
