Simulation Damage

Can engine damage occur from improper driving, or do you actually have to hit something to cause the damage?

I ask because it has happened to me twice now. While racing, all of a sudden the car starts “sputtering” and becomes unresponsive. I don’t recall hitting anything (or anyone) but when I look at the vehicle damage, the engine shows a percentage of damage.

Perhaps someone could have braked early and I may have hit them in the back, but I definitely DID NOT see any pop-up messages of damage…

If you downshift too aggressively and over-rev the engine, it’ll burn it out. The more often you do this, the higher percentage damage you’ll do to the car.

Likewise if you’re using Manual w/Clutch and you don’t press the clutch button when shifting, the gearbox will take damage.

Those are the 2 most common sources of damage when you’ve not made any contact with other cars.

Well, that makes sense. The particular vehicle I was driving had an odd (unfamiliar) shifting sequence which caused me to over-rev a lot. That must have been it… Thanks!

^^^What he said. You just have to be careful with your up and down shifts if you race with a manual. Without TCS or Stability Control turned on, it’s easy to spin the tires and bounce the engine off the rev limiter on high horsepower cars when starting or coming out of corners.
