A few questions I need cleared up

So I have been working hard at getting no assists off and so far I’ve done a pretty good job but there are still a few things that I do/ don’t do that Id like some clarification on… First off: Do i need to rev the accelerator as i am down shifting? - sometimes i think this helps and sometimes i dont know if its really doing anything and i can’t find any youtube videos on that so if any one can help thatd be great. Also, is ‘power shifting’ (not taking finger off accelerator to shift) bad for the cars trans? I race sim damage and every once in a while my cars engine will have little blips in it even when im giving it full gas, I can’t tell if this spotty acceleration is from my controller, or damage to the car- possibly from power shifting?

If using manual transmission, you need to let off the gas for a split-second when shifting, up or down. Otherwise damage will occur. If using the clutch, you have to make sure you use it, shifting w/o pressing the clutch button will also cause damage.

When you down shift, the engine revs on it’s own to the relevant RPMs for the car’s current speed.

For example. let’s say, in 3rd gear at 6,000 RPM you will be doing 100 mph, and at 120 mph it hits the rev limit and you need to shift to 4th. Now, let’s say you are approaching a corner at 150 mph, and begin to brake. If you downshift into 3rd at 120-150, it will cause damage to the car (engine, transmission), and be over-revving. If you downshift at 100 mph, the revs will drop to 6,000 RPM, giving you room to accelerate.

However, sometimes, especially in lower class cars, it might be best to not downshift, and just let the revs come down in your current gear. The time needed to shift back up to 4th after the corner may be more costly in time than just letting the engine fall down to say, 4 or 5,000 RPMs. The ideal down-shift points should put the engine at it’s peak Torque RPM level, something you have to discover for yourself using telementary and the Xbox Game DVR. This info used to be available in the game menus, but is currently missing.

This was a poor attempt to give a layman’s explanation. There is likely others than can far better explain it and have better knowledge about gearing, shifting, and the importance of your torque/horsepower curve in relation to RPMs and gear ratios.

That’s why this game is so great, once you get into the tuning, it’s like an RPG… for cars.
