I am racing quite a bit in the ForzaRC Open League. I started using manual with clutch to get more boost. Its great in the beginning of races but then toward the end I am losing power on acceleration. I had an opponent easily pass me on a straight on Hockenheim to take a position at the finish. I kept the replay and went back to check the telemetry. Sure enough he had 0% Transmission damage and was not running clutch. I had 100% transmission damage using the clutch. I checked the other cars racing and all the manual with clutch drivers had 100% transmission damage at the end of the race.
So, i"m not really sure its worth it in the end. It does give you a good boost at the beginning to possibly get you ahead of the crashers. But then there is the turn one pileup.
It is because you are shifting wrong. Downshifting to early will cause transmission damage every single down shift resulting in a very slow car. Focus on not engine braking and down shift like your in a real car.
Uh, engine braking is one of the benefits of a manual transmission on a real car. And it is for sure used in real racing, all the way up to F1. Now, over revving the engine when downshifting is a whole nother thing.
Im using clutch and having a decent session of podiums and wins with no more than 4% transmission damage each race (4% damage each time you bad shift eg not using clutch)
As a tip id recommend using button A as the clutch its easier than the left bumper
I always disliked having to mash two buttons at once to upshift and downshiift. So I bought an elite controller. I put the clutch on the top right paddle (trigggered with right hand middle finger). Its awesome!!
As been discussed above by my man Johnson your shifting is not smooth. When sim damage is on if you can’t shift properly you get 4% transmission damage everytime plus you will get engine damage if you downshift to fast and don’t rev match.
The main thing that brakes your transmission is mistiming your gearshift and clutch.
That is the reason most drivers prefer clutch on A and gears in X and B and mashing 2 buttons at one finger. I know a guy who actually had “forza controller” where he had glued a tiny plastic slips on X and B buttons, so when he would press either one he would also press A at the same time.
And yes When driving manual with clutch you keep your throttle pinned shile shifting on straights, With high power/low grip carsand FWD cars and shifting gear while on slower turns / exiting corner you might want to be more careful,
The difference on manaul vs manual with clutch is shift time.
Manual without clutch it takes 0.4-1.0 seconds to shift a gear (with hig end race cars it might be instant)
Manual with cluth it takes the same time as it takes you to push and release the buttons. + your engine just got 100-400RPM extra which will give you a little speed boost on releasing the clutch.
How ever with mistimed clutching which each rack 4% transmission damage your shift time will very swiftly get very long and it will slow you down more than manual without clutch.
Replays will always show 100% damage on drivers who drive manual with clutch, as the game doesn’t understand that you can shift faster than the AI would.
When this game first launched I used to have problems with damaging my transmission, as soon as I set the clutch inside deadzone to zero in the advanced controller settings it alleviated that issue.
I started taking videos of my telemetry during the end of races and then comparing it to the saved replay version. The replays are majorly glitched versus the telemetry in game. I was showing 0% to 8% damage during the game but the replays were 44% to 100%. I realized the replay telemetry will start stacking up damage as soon as the race starts. If you fast forward the damage gets erased to 0% and then starts building up. So the “replay” telemetry does not represent reality.
In reality I am experiencing about 0% to 8% damage per race using manual with clutch on simulation.
I had a similar problem when I broke my last wheel and had to go back to the controller. Are you sure you’re hitting the clutch button first?
When I got the xbox one and Forza 6 I had to make a slight modification to the way I shifted for the same reason, I was tearing up the transmission because I was hitting the button simultaneously. Now I do more of a ‘rolling’ move with my thumb across the A and up to the B/X and it seems to have resolved most of the problem.
I am actually shifting perfectly. I was relying on the replays to see damage. The replays are glitched big time. I am now reviewing the telemetry in game and there is usually 0% damage.
I had a TX which died. Looking at the new Thrustmaster TMX wheel.
