Should I buy?

All I’ve ever played has been forza horizon 2 and 3 and I love them! Especially since I’ve started playing online. There’s a lot of new games coming out this fall and have been contemplating buying forza 7. What can I expect from forza 7? What is it like compared to the horizons?

Thanks

Forza Motorsport 5 GOTYE is actually free with games with gold starting today
Only real similarities to horizon is the cars and that you race

Forza Motorsport is focused on circuit racing, so the cars, tuning, and painting are very similar, but that’s about where the similarities end.

Horizon’s focus is open-world fantasy driving. It’s a lot of ridiculous, over-the-top stunts and races and the freedom of roaming a huge, open map.

Motorsport focuses on racing on real (and a few fictional) racing circuits. There’s no off-road racing, the physics are a bit less forgiving, and car PI is much more important because opponents don’t automatically scale to match your car’s PI. There’s no free-roaming open world, it just moves from one track to the next.

I love them both for completely different reasons. I’m not a big fan of free roam and I like tuning, which is arguably more important in Motorsport since there’s no automatic scaling of your opponents. Squeaking out every last bit of PI to match your opponents is fun for me.

I like Horizon because (especially Horizon 3) it embraces a more ridiculous and fantastical nature. It’s really fun and I don’t take the tuning and racing as seriously and just let loose.

Like talby brought up, Forza 5 is now free through games with gold

Give that a try and if you like it then you’ll definitely like Forza 7 as it will be much better

FM has realistic physics compared to Horizon (also far better car sound IMO), although not skewed completely toward simulation, unfortunately. You’ll actually have to practice good racecraft and driving technique. Pick up the free FM5 and get FM6 as well; it’s content-rich and should be a part of your collection for sure.

Wait for the Demo before you buy if your unsure. It will be out in a few weeks id imagine (but keep eye on the news feed)

I just picked up FM5 through Games with Gold. If you’ve never played Forza Motorsport before, DO NOT start with FM5. It is terrible.

Wait for the demo of FM7 or I’m pretty sure the demo for FM6 is still up. I knew FM5 lacked some content, but even the menus, the career and everything is just really poorly done. It makes FM6 looks way way way better :stuck_out_tongue:

FM5 isn’t a bad game once you are actually on the track but it has very little content. The career is little more than a checklist of races in each class.

Even the menus and stuff are very cryptic and poorly done. It took me almost 10 minutes to find the Options menu. It’s a whole lot of flash and pomp and really pretty scarce and awful.

FM6 improved in pretty much every department. I have a feeling that FM7 is fitting very much into the same mold as FM5. They’re pushing the visual appeal and sacrificing content and cleanliness.

Not sure how you can say that
The announced content in fm7 is already more than what was in fm6
How is the content sacrificed??

I think you’re putting a few misleading statements out there. You went directly from 6 to 5 and feel the menus are poorly done - it’s an older game… are you surprised? Sure, the menus are not as slick or seamless as 6, but they are certainly not as “terrible” as you say; I’m saying that from a critical, non-biased perspective.

Additionally, are you writing off the entire game based just on menus? No mention of the actual gameplay or core driving model?

FM5 is their best work to date, from a technical standpoint. Read that again: in terms of technical achievements (sound, visuals, physics etc). It is low on content, but then its a launch title and MS pushed them hard to roll it out with the Xbox One’s debut in late 2013.

If only 5 had a car and track roster like 4, I think I’d be playing it mostly instead of 6!

I quite liked Forza 5. And it’s free, so you have nothing to lose, except for time.

It’s not bad. It’s a decent game, all in all. However it was always going to be compared to the predecessor. And hoo boy, was that not in its favour. I found Forza 5 incredibly lacking compared to Forza 4. I also found it rather cheeky to be charging extra on top of it too for partly the same DLC as the previous game, with a large amount of of it being cars that were in previous games from the start.

Though for free, and a heavy discount (can currently get all the DLC for less than $10 in the sale) on the DLC, it’s good value for money. Even though I picked up the game for £15 as part of a bundle with Horizon 2, and the DLC for similar pricing, I more than got my money’s worth out of it.

Can’t say I’d have bought it at launch though, had I had an Xbox One then though. Seems like the game was rushed out to be a “system seller”.

I remember when I got the One when it came out along with Forza 5 I was so excited

Honestly it looked and felt great, it just lacked in literally every other department compared to the masterpiece that was FM4
