Shifting seems to be far too slow for cars with dual clutch transmissions. I understand the point of having to upgrade transmissions to get that to be faster, but it doesn’t make sense to have to do that on cars already equipped with DCTs. Modern Porsche’s and Ferrari’s need to have lightning quick shifts. I really don’t want to have to equip a race transmission to help emulate the speed of a real dual clutch, because then I have to listen to the transmission whine in a car that otherwise wouldn’t have it. Race transmission whines sound good in race cars, they don’t belong in road cars.
Don’t worry about the speed of those cars in offline/online races either. The performance it gains by shifting quicker is a real byproduct of cars with DCT’s and is something someone driving a manual would have to accept as both a reality on the racetrack, and as a challenge. Please don’t force cars to shift slower so as not to gain a competitive advantage. We just want realism, and DCT’s being faster than manuals is a real dynamic of track racing.
Speaking of realism - if this issue were to be addressed and fixed, please don’t take it too far. Not every car that has paddle shifters or an automatic transmission has a dual clutch and needs to shift faster. For example, the 2003 Ferrari 360 Challenge Stradale and the 2018 Lamborghini Aventador SVJ shift perfectly as it is. That small gap between being on and off and back on the power is reminiscent of the 360 CS’s slow F1 gearbox the the SVJ’s infamous single clutch.
