What a waste of time and resources for something that adds nothing of value to the game. Im sure we’ll see a digital foundry video with zoomed in side by sides to show the minimal differences and how much more “pleasing” it looks.
Still cant change the disgusting 2d wheel textures straight out of 90s or add puddles or have more than 3 blades of grass on the side of the track or have headlights that work so they dont need to add track lights to make up for it.
Well, hey, that’s a given. I’m honestly happy if they get the current RT to work as it should - e.g. no bluriness, shimmering, bad quality shadow morphing, or low res pixels, etc. It really is kinda bad right now, hope Update 15 smoothens out the RT in cockpit and cars’ exterior parts.
The keyword is screenshot. This doesnt push the game foward in any way other than if you like to take pictures, but even then it wont hide the subpar car models and other graphical anomalies.
Theres reasons why other racing games dont use rtgi. Other than gt7 and f1 they dont even have rt in the game, because its unnecessary and just taps performance that can be used elsewhere.
This is also a pc only upgrade, im sure high end ones at that. So basically an update unusable by the majority of the player base. For a game that still has many issues a year after release, this isnt helping anything other than stopping the embarrassment of using promo screenshots that dont align with the game everyones been playing.
Theres numerous graphical issues that likely wont be touched. The kicker, as you would know is these things have to be reported on a car by car basis when in reality its across the board. Just another bullet point to be added to marketing material that doesnt work particularly well.
Graphics engineer wouldn’t work on something physics or AI related.
The team taking care of visuals did their job over the last couple of months and tbf, it’s what many of us wanted, a better looking game that was promised before launch.
It’s still not a good look. And that’s the main issue. Firing off a ray-tracing update on a game that needs as much TLC as this game does is like painting an old classic car right before you begin the intensive frame-off restoration. Graphics probably should be the last thing this game’s team needs to worry about right now - not while the rest of it is being held together by clothing thread and dollar-store scotch tape.
Plus, it seems contradictory to hear/read things like “there are different teams working on different aspects of the game” while also hearing/reading things like “no track this month as efforts are focused instead on improvements to AI & audio.”
And should something like this take a triple-A graphics team more than a year post-launch?
At this rate, this game will still be behind the curve after a decade of development & support.
Of course, some progress is better than no progress, but the commitment to progress doesn’t look strong when paint dries thousands of times faster.
I don’t quite understand T10’s marketing strategy and future business goals. There’s a tonne of visual stuff that needs fixing in the game. Stuff that people have been reporting since the game launched.
Rather than address that, why are they throwing more glitter at the game? Again, T10 biting off more than they can chew.
I really think they need to iron out the visual Ans audio issues while continuing to improve and refine the physics model, rather than these extras.
But I suppose a small group of people asked for it and they got it. Good for them.
I won’t be able to take any advantage of it with my outdated RTX 3080 (10 GB V-RAM) yet. I won’t use it because I prefer having more FPS. But early next year I will buy a 5080 and then I can enjoy the game with all bells and whistles.
But I am very much looking forward to Bathurst, I been waiting for it since release. YAAAAY FINALLY.
