Request for feedback: Audio devices and settings

would love the option to increase sound for turbo and backfire for in cockpit view

I would like to have an audioslider for the extremely loud racing transmissions that are sometimes louder than the engines themselves.

Means that while the game is running that you have to go to xbox settings and pick one of the other surround modes then go back to the one you actually want to use.

Gotcha, thanks

They need to get the artificial noise, distortion, and compression out of the samples - and update them with real dynamic range so that the engine and exhaust have varying levels of depth and unique characteristics while accelerating, coasting, braking, and shifting.

Best example: their previous FM games and especially FH5.

Also, why don’t we have sound presets like TV, Headphones, Surround 5.1/7.1, Atmos, TV, etc?

Most games just use the soundmode you have chosen in the OS. i mean that is perfectly fine.

I think he meant a sound stage in-game setting like FM 7 - native surround, stereo, TV, etc

I Always use Headphones for Some Reason Dolby Atmos for me the Sound Difference is very Noticeable I like to hear Cars Close to my Ears But it feels like other sounds are Louder Than Others I have used the warm option in the Dolby Atmos app is the one i use but i Don’t use it in this Game Because I like sounds around me to be Closer to my Ears for Example The performance mode Detailed or Balanced it just Sounds very odd to me. I have used windows Sonic for Headphones & I am Very Impressed with that Audio in this Game I use ucompressed Audio in Xbox Settings But i do change it between Windows sonic & dolby atmos Warm as well

Ever since Update 7 for FM23, I’ve noticed that the center channel isn’t used for any game audio. The track announcer voice comes through on the center channel, but there’s no other audio - no player engine, etc. It makes racing rather difficult because I rely primarily on engine sound to determine shift points.

Pretty much been this way since launch. Initially there was almost no surround information ( at least on my DA rig ) despite being advertised as a Dolby Atmos game. It’s since been improved somewhat, but the center channel has pretty much never been occupied by car engine sound or any car sound at all really.

Interesting poll and discussion.

On my 7.1 Atmos capable amp the cars sound flat out wrong. The depth and details brought about by proper dynamic range sound engineering is missing. The car sounds don’t stand out as a result, particularly evident in cockpit view.

So, aside from the wrong car sounds in the game and then carelessly pasting those sounds to other cars, the sound stage on the cars themselves is all over the place - e.g. 5.1/7.1 channels are not being dynamically utilized for variations in exhaust and engine pitch, noise, power, vibration/rumble, etc. Neither are the channels being utilized for the various forced induction, intake and transmission sounds. Furthermore, cars that have a front, mid or rear engine should come out of the surround speakers as intended but they don’t.

Another glaring shortcoming I’ve noticed is that they’ve given many high powered cars in the game a flat and hollow sound as if the player is revving out of a tin can or echo room. That’s again wrong, as many supercars and hypercars have insulated cockpits so the sound deadening effect and exhaust rumble/vibration is missing. Again, due to the dynamic range mix being either under utilized or not utilized at all, the front L/R midrange speakers don’t really ā€œlight upā€ to relay powerful car sound.

I believe the developers have quite a bit of work cut out for themselves before the cars start to actually sound like cars.

I have turned off windows sonic and am using the spacial audio mode. The game sounds better now, I’m using logitec headphones.

They need to either tell the loudness war aficionado to knock it off or get rid of them. I recorded several of the car interior mixes and ran them through my DR meter ( Dynamic Range Meter ). Not a single one clocked higher than DR8. Pathetic.

You’ve summed up my lengthy post well, lol :+1:

The decibels on the cars are not there. Irrespective of engine configuration, cylinders or exhaust system, most high powered cars are very loud IRL and have this ā€œdirtinessā€ to their sound that is just beautiful to listen to. Forza doesn’t capture that very well, in fact on many cars I’ve noticed how the exhaust signature barely has any depth and detail to it until you hit or surpass the mid torque range.

These cars believe me - I’ve driven, owned and boosted them as a hobby - are so loud especially when you’re standing a few feet away that the sound literally hits you in the chest, reverberates through the floor or tarmac and goes right through you. On a street, you can hear the exhaust rumbling and wailing several blocks away.

There are so many things they can do to improve the sound yet I don’t see those positive changes being implemented. Is the development team even tweaking the sounds on a 7.1 amp?

This is so annoying. It sounds like driving through an actual long tunnel for a second, but it shouldn’t do that.

Engine Sound: 100%
Environmental Sound: 85%

It’s hilarious how you include random topics in a discussion. I love it!

Edit: Oh cool, Mr. ā€œShickadanceā€ makes an appearance - definitely watching it :joy:

I now use the Nvidia App and activated RTX HDR for the game, it looks a bit more natural now. But it’s still not perfect.

But somehow i got the feeling it’s even brighter now, i don’t know the problem is i can’t measure it or anything, i only do the adjusting with my eyes. There is only that ingame brightness and HDR brightness setting slider and the Forza logos. Maybe i also try out RTX Dynamic Vibrance.

I activated RTX HDR globally now, i will try it out in other games too.

Edit: I didn’t notice any performance hit in Forza Motorsport because i limited my FPS to 75 there anyway, but i do notice a performance hit in GTA Online. I usually hade like 112-120 FPS and now i got like 96 FPS, but it looks much better. I am not sure if i keep using it or not. It’s really great tech but at a cost.

Well, installed an Xbox update a bit ago that seems to have improved dolby atmos. I’m detecting a bit more dynamic range all around. Midrange in these cockpit views isn’t nearly as Fran Dreschery as it was. Game still has its flaws, but I don’t think it’s 100% to blame.

Update: Even Horizon 4 sounds better. Interior is a whole lot less mono. Wild. I used to HATE the sound of H4. If it sounded more like what I hear right now when it launched, I would have given it WAY more of a chance.

With due respect, I’m calling BS on this.

Didn’t you create a post just like this one?

Xbox updates or those to the DA app have zero bearing on the sound in Forza. FM doesn’t even support DA. Same lacklustre car sounds as before.
