Again another great article, John! Though I didn’t watch those races over the weekend, I did watch the Sprint Cup race at Martinsville, which was great to watch. Congrats to Kurt Busch on winning that race for Stewart-Haas Racing, which is sort of ironic considering he and Tony Stewart had a rivalry several years back and now they’re on the same team! But I am really impressed by Dale Jr.'s 3rd place finish, putting him back in the points lead! The truck race afterwards was good, since they got rained out on Saturday; I still wish the truck series would to Darlington, it was great to watch the last truck series race at “The Lady in Black”; It’s funny how this year so far whenever a Nascar race is at a East Coast track, it rains but if the race is in the West, it’s sunny!
All I have to say is : can’t wait until April 17. That Stadium super trucks looks like pure joy to watch. Then again, maybe that’s just because I’ve had a strange obsession with these particular races ever since I saw Monster Trucks as a 4-year old.
Great RVM John. I caught the replay of the Malaysian GP and was very happy to see Hamilton get the win after having trouble in Australia. WTG Mercedes! As for the Indy race, I didn’t really get to catch it, but I can’t stand Power and from the video it looks as if he did hold up the field. Congrats to Kurt Busch on the win at Martinsville. Just glad that Johnson didn’t win. Tough day for my man Gordon as I thought he would be a bigger factor in the race, but glad to see him finish 12th after a bad day.
Its was a great week for motorsport fan. I was very disappointed with Dale jr he wrecked out Jamie Mcmurray and i know it wasnt on purpose but when your driver is running top 5 and gets wreck it makes the rest of the race unwatchable!!! I cant stand seeing the cry baby Kurt Busch win… Was very happy to see the other Jamie thats the V8 supercars score the win. I didnt get to watch the indy car race and i see penske cars were all up front so i wish gannasi would have done better… Good run for hunter like seeing him do well… So all in all not to bad of a weekend for the drivers i cheer for. great read sir. Unfortunately I only have time for watching Formula 1 racing and the Tudor Sports Car Championship. Watch the odd Indy race but don’t really follow it. I’ve been watching F1 since the 1990’s and was a huge ALMS fan, having watched the Pratt&Miller Corvette Racing almost since it’s inception. I really enjoy the ALMS and Rolex merger and the diverse field of race cars present.
I’m not really happy with the current state of F1. I really got into it during the V10 era and really like how the cars development was almost unrestricted. The V8’s were OK as we’ll. Not a fan of the new 1.6L Turbo engines. They are too quiet and I don’t like the noise. I also hate the fuel management. F1 is supposed to be the pinnacle of Motorsport with machines pushing speed to new extremes. The teams could build much faster cars than they race but are hindered by the rules. Thankfully it’s still a treat to watch as F1 has some of the most talented drivers and colourful personalities to be found on TV. I’d love for them to ease up the regulations and let teams build more powerful and faster cars. The early 2000’s were so cool when they had V10’s producing as much as 1,0000 HP in qualifying and revving to well over 21,0000 RPM. The 10,500 RPM just doesn’t cut it anymore on the new engines.
I as a die hard Formula 1 fan am absolutely dissapointed by the new engines and also the new fuel limit rules.
The cars are now rarely running above 12000 rpm and that’s mainly due the limited fuel flow which may not be above 100kg per hour.
After the race it came out that at least 5 teams of which at least RedBull, Torro Rosso and Lotus had problems with the by the FIA supplied fuel flow sensor.
I think it’s a totally unnecessary rule on top of the maximum 100kg fuel they may carry per race.
Luckely the race it self was nice, but not great. A little rain would have made it perfect!
I feel sorry for Kimi Raikkonen, I think he had the potential to be P5 or P6.
Also I get the feeling the FIA has a rage against RedBull, the way they punished Ricciardo after his failed pitstop is very exaggerated, there was no harm done and they let him stop almost immediately, a 10 second stop and go penalty and a 10 place gridpenalty for the next race is outrageous, esspecialy compared to the 5 seconds stop and go penalty Magnusson got for hitting Raikkonen which had danger in it.
Hopefully the next race in Bahrein wil be a good one!
But i stil can not get used to the new engine sound, or should i say lack of it? here’s a comparison between the 2013 and 2014 sound at Albertpark:
This RVM was incredibly good, I really liked the Super Stadium Trucks. I seen some videos on YT before and I like to see what are they doing with those trucks, In my country we can’t see even similar to this. To be honest I haven’t seen the F1(I don’t have to much time because my studies) but I will check out the replay this weekend. Thank you for the RVM, Jhon.
In my opinion this could be the year of Nico Rosberg,
He is agreat driver and has shown his skills in the past years i think. His car the Mercedes also semms to be in a great condition this year.
I’m looking forward to see if Vettel can give him competition or if even somebody you don’t think can get into the race for number one during this year race calander.
I lost the will of F1 aka formula slow. With all the new regulations and fuel saying methods it not a race any more it just getting a little dull. Which is a sad shame.
Now they racing trucks and V8 super cars now we are talking. Fast pace, jumping, bumping… real racing!!
Power was definitely at fault. F1 has a rule about lagging and accelerating during re-starts to prevent this very thing. In the replay it looks like he stepped on the brake, if not he definitely slowed down, to bunch up everyone behind him. The whole idea is to get everyone on the brakes while you are accelerating. I personally don’t agree with the strategy, but racing is racing.
The first two F1 races were great! The best part, two races, two winners and neither winner was driving a Red Bull. I believe Vettel will get his swagger back. I hate to say it, but I think the Red Bulls are going to over take the Mercs in the next round. I think Magnussen’s penalty was BS and the only reason he got it is because he is a Rookie. The contact was accidental at best. Like they say in nascar, rubbing is racing. Speaking of team orders, I am glad Massa stood up to Williams by not giving up is spot.
The Stadium Truck racing just ain’t what it use to be when Iron Man Stewart was dominating them in his two speed Toyota back in the 80s. It was great getting to see a supercross race and then seeing the Stadium Trucks on the same track except running it backwards. Great fun seeing them jump out of the top of the stadiums down to the floor.
I’ve noticed a lot of disappointment in the new F1 regulations and engines and such, and I have to agree. I realize everything in the wide world of sports is progressing and all, but I just miss the old F1.
However, I love the V8 Supercar series. I still would love to be able to watch more of them live on TV. I’m a bit of a night owl and there really isn’t a lot good on at night, and to be, that would be perfect. THe clips you posted were fantastic.
I’m not a big fan of the Stadium Super Trucks though, I must admit. They’re definitely very exciting to watch, but I’d rather see them flying through the desert and all that. I realize, obviously the trucks are set up differently, but they look so similar and it just makes me think of something like the Baja races.
All in all, there was a lot of good racing this week, if you ignore all the crap that goes on in NASCAR.
Wonderful RVM as usual, John. Thanks as always.

Wow. You really get all the information on this. You have the whole 1 hr 23 min video of the 2014 Pirelli World Challenge Cadillac Grand Prix. Very informative as well. This was one of the really good RVMs I’ve read. I don’t know why, but crashes make these more amusing.
