- Potential is there, fun is not.
5.8
The solely fact that they keep making gameplay changes for the worst in every update without even listening to their customers is enough reason to lock the puntuation below 6. If a company doesnt care about their customers, the game will never be good.
Itās a 4 from me. The game just feels empty and a constant grind. Thereās no fun in it. Occasionally Iāll come back, but only find myself playing for an hour or so
6/10
6 if weāre putting it up against the 1st 3 games, FH4 receives a 6 from me as well.
I donāt know how long this retrospective love-in for 4 will last but maybe when it quietens down some will see just how many of the disliked things in 5 began there.
3ās, 4ās etc are just silly ratings, stop playing if you genuinely think itās that bad, NFS is a shadow of itās former self and even that wouldnāt score that low, I know I wouldnāt carry on playing a 3/10 after 4 months.
Once again I repeat what I said about FH4, great core, everything else disappointing or downright poor.
And no just because FH4 does some things better than stuff that is plain bad in FH5 doesnāt mean they were done well in FH4 either.
If you want to pine after a previous FH choose any of the first 3 games when the series meant more than āAll aboard the live service train!ā to PG.
Heck in MPās case you would be well within reason to long for FH2 on the 360, back in 2014 Iād have asked who let them out if somebody had told me Iād be saying that game did something better than any of the games that would follow.
Most of the cars in āanyā racing game are from Portfolio ā Glassegg
no idea how much t10/pgg is doing⦠nothing wrong with thatā¦
Think problem is their toolset⦠āengineā itself is not too badā¦
4/10
Sure it looks great, like the car list, really like the weather effects but there isnāt much motivation to play long term. FH5 is basically like playing FH4 playlist all over again but with worse rewards than the predecessor, just not playing as much as the previous Horizon games. Really baffles me why the rewards for the playlist are less when the cars are costing more than ever before. Add in the fact there are more bugs in this game than any of the predecessors, some of which are still in the game 4 months later, canāt help but feel FH6 should be made by another developer, one that actually plays racing games. Just feel PG donāt put as much effort in their newest games as they used to in the past.
I totally agree with you. But you forgot one thing. Multi-player is still broken.
You will see like 3/4 people around you that are close by, the rest of the map is emty.
Crazy its taking forever for to fix this issue! (and all the others)
5 - There are just too many things that need to get fixed. The worst thing is that many of us would probably feel the rating would be higher if some of the very low hanging fruit was fixed. For example:
- When you complete a PR stunt wouldnāt it be nice to know how you did? The speed/distance flashes by so quickly it is impossible to read.
- Wheelspins should always allow you to sell the duplicate car. Why when I level up during a race donāt I have this option?
- Daily/Weekly challenges that are clear as to what the objective is.
- Daily challenges that are not more time consuming than the weekly challenges.
- Weekly PR stunts that can be completed versions of the vehicle up to the rating listed and not only the rating listed.
It seems this is yet another development team that has no clue as to the value of cleaning up the low hanging fruit that people see every day.
Iād rate the game 7/10. Fantastic game buried under a mountain of bugs and terrible design decisions.
Post launch support gets a 0 though. Itās clear they cut content in order to flesh out the playlist early. Also itās been 4 months and theyāve only resolved a few minor issues. None of the major issues have been solved, and they still havenāt even acknowledged many obvious, egregious issues.
I think that the rest of the map is supposed to update as you drive around it.
4/10 - massively underwhelming.
Maybe my own fault for getting so hyped about this release, but itās just not that good. Iāve definitely had some fun moments, but I find myself constantly ignoring it for weeks, then coming back in the hopes that itās suddenly exciting again.
Iāve had a few motorsport titles and every FH title so far, I put in a lot of hours on FH4 and mostly enjoyed it despite it sharing a lot of the gimmicky features found in 5. My views are based purely around the offline aspects as I donāt have gold and therefore havenāt experienced the online side of the game, which sounds to have been a complete joke in itself.
The map on 5 is huge but lacks anything of real interest imo other than the volcano roads, with the rest being random jagged roads through a flat open space.
There is absolutely no career progression, not for everyone I guess but I miss the days of progressing class restricted events and actually having to work your way up to the faster/ more expensive car classes.
The AI is a joke. Would really appreciate the option to turn off drivetars and have standard AI opponents. I like a bit of a challenge, but would prefer a balanced pack. The current difficulty settings have me choosing between an easy win or mindlessly chasing one impossible to beat opponent for the whole race with 10 other cars miles behind me.
The weekly playlists seem to now be introducing some new cars, but the overall base selection is what you get in FH4. Itās particularly boring to see barn finds and some weekly rewards (which are marketed as exciting prizes) which are just recycled cars which you could purchase from the auto show in FH4. The game costs enough money that I shouldnāt be expected to immediately buy extra car packs to get vehicles which are new to the game.
There are far too many gimmicky, boring and repetitive story events. They are not enjoyable and Iād imagine most people complete them only for the purpose of full completion of the game.
Essentially Iād like the progression and more suppressed story focus found in the early FH games, with more focus on racing than boring characters and story lines. I suppose this wouldnāt be for everyone and they have instead gone down the route of 4wd 300mph Ferraris and 2000ft jumps off of sand dunes. It is a 3+ rated arcade racing game after all.
As a Ā£20 FH4 dlc Iād be happy, as a full price new game, itās very disappointing.
Iād probably give it a 6 or 7. It looks good, but iām starting to get bored of these Horizon games, if the multiplayer races were good, iād give it more time. S/A/B/C/D and road/dirt/cross country lobbies pleaseā¦
I hope the new Forza Motorsport has excellent multiplayer with proper race penalties to put off the banger racers.
In the mean time, iāve just picked up a PS5 and started playing GT7 which is very good and seems well polished so far. Fingers crossed FM can compete with it when it arrives. Not sure iād bother with another FH game if it wasnāt on GamePass.
For me Iām loving the game 9/10 awesome scenery amazing cars, great gameplay,
Iāve not been able to play lately, but Iām itching to get on.
I rate is a solid 9/10, the only flaw I have really about this game isnāt too bad. I personally just wish that there were more blueprint locations. There are so many potential custom blueprint locations that I could do but there are no bpās on the track locations and it annoys me every so slightly. Overall I love this game.
At the moment i would rate this game as a 6/10.
Its fun, but there is so much wasted potential. I think every aspect of this game could be better if more consideration would have gone into it.
From the lack of a real story, the cutting of multiplayer features, to the playlist. Even the rivals system feels tagged on, because of the poor implementation.
You have to completely leave rivals, go back to free roam, to be able to chose a new ghost, change your car or tune, you cant see which tune people used, all of this was better in FM7.
Regarding Playlist and Story
We are forced to do random things to win cars, why not make the random things related to the car we are going to win. For example, the new car is the newest iteration of lets say the VW Golf, why not have a Golf themed playlist, in which you have to do all races and stunts with earlier Golf iterations? Maybe have a narrator tell us a little something about the history of the Golf, the way it was done in FH4 in some stories.
Or how about we sometimes just get the new car, and they make a playlist full of challenges we have to complete in the new car, its a bit silly to do challenges to get a car, but once you have the new car, you donāt have anything meaningful to do with it.
How about adding some race types, overtake challenges, chase slower cars, get chased by faster cars, manufacturer cups, spec races, slalom. Anything to spice up the boring playlist.
I want to like this game, but, especially for a live service game, there is not enough things to do, or at least a sever lack of variation.
8/10 I like 5 but for some reason I love 4 and miss playing it. But 5 is good game
With the introduction of custom adventures in fh5 i am increasing my rating of fh5 to 8/10. I rate fh4 9/10.
Too much of fh5 was designed from scratch. There were a huge number of bugs when fh5 was released. The S2 race experience in fh5 is better than fh4. Fh5 stability has improved but it took months.
Key reasons i rate fh5 8/10 include:
-
Too many slow, boring races in A, B, C, D class
-
Ridiculously low number of S2 races - see my issue on race allocation algorithm
-
Lack of support for collisions off racing
-
Too many stupid, unnecessary features when the fundamentals are still not right
I rate FH1 a 9/10, FH2 and FH3 8/10, FH4 6/10 and FH5 4/10. Mostly because the devs took an excellent foundation with the Forza engine and continue to add junk that makes the game worse like the festival playlist chores, dumb emotes, and locked cars, and remove good things like the ability to easily create custom events and choice in multiplayer with each title to make the game worse and worse.
Both FH4 and FH5 took the bad things of the preceding game and turned them up to 11 and added very little worthwhile new content.
3/10 It looks pretty, but bugs and cheats still being allowed to ruin the leaderboards killed it for me. I played Horizon 4 at least once a week right up to a couple of months before 5 came out, I last played 5 in January. I refuse to play around cheats in any video game especially when its so blatant!
Iām having buyer regret for getting the Premium Edition tbh, If it is not addressed by the first expansion I will not play another Horizon game.
