So I want to buy a racing wheel for the first time something that will work with forza horizon 2 and 3 when it comes out. What racing wheels are good I was looking at the Logitech 920 and the thrustmasters leather edition. What one would you recommend for me to get. As much as I would love to get a fanatic one they are way out of my price range. Thanks!
I have a Thrustmaster TX basel with Leather GT wheel addon + TH8A shifter and T3PA pedals all in an obutto revolution cockpit, very happy about it. But! The Forza series aren’t that good with a wheel TBH, the FFB code is poor at best. Especially Horizon is best played with a controller in chase cam view. A wheel in chase cam view is so… wrong to begin with.
If you want a game on XBox where your wheel really feels the way it should I recommend Project CARS or Dirt Rally. And the supposedly creme de le creme about wheel racing is coming to XBox in a few weeks! Hello Assetto Corsa!
Ok thanks for the quick reply maybe ill just stick with a controller for now. Just looks really fun using a racing wheel
Personally I’m getting the Thrustmaster TX Racing Wheel Leather Edtion with a TH8A Shifter Add-On.
I think that is on value for money about the best XBox racing wheel you can possibly get right now. I have basically the same as you but had to spend a lot more money to buy all the addons seperately since your configuration wasn’t sold yet like that in 1 box. I got the Thrustmaster TX Racing Wheel 458 Italia Edition. Replaced the standard 2-pedal set with the T3PA pedals addon and replaced the standard Ferrari wheel with the GT 28 Leather Wheel. Then I have the same as you (the wheel bases are basically the same I suppose). And then we both got the TH8A shifter addon.
To the OP - if you like racing authentic (I mean, a classic car with a clutch and 3 pedals, for a modern car the paddle shifters and 2 pedals) then I can highly recommend the TX Racing Wheel Leather Edition mentioned above. The shifter feels VERY high quality! Much much better than that old plastic toy that came with my logitech G25. The pedals are also a ton better than those of the G25. And as far as the base goes, less center deadzone than the G25 for sure. Overall it feels like a really high quality upgrade compared to the G25 I had on my PS3.
The newer Logitech G920 supposed to be about the same as the old G25 except it’s compatible with the XBox now so I would certainly not recommend to buy it.
In a couple of weeks I can tell you how the TX Racing Wheel feels in Assetto Corsa and I believe that will be the best wheel experience I’ve ever had. I’m so pumped about it.
Back to Forza Horizon, I really prefer to play that just lazy in the sofa in front of my big 65" SUHD TV. The TV can handle 4K (2015 model) but the amplifier between the XBox and the TV doesn’t (2010 model). No worries though because at the distance I’m sitting from my TV I would barely notice the difference anyway. And the TV is a beast in upscaling.
My second room is where my Obutto Cockpit is situated, that is my older TV (55" 2010 model plasma TV). My XBox literally gets moved between both places depending on what I play. Now that’s main TV for some Forza 5 loyalty grinding catching up, when F1 2016 and Assetto Corsa come out (soon!!!) it will be moved to the second room again. And when FH3 releases back to the main room.
Can’t wait until the Project Scorpio XBox releases as well so I can stop this moving around of my one XBox between 2 places, then I’ll have two.
I have the Thrustmaster.
A. That would be a great nickname for me.
B. I prefer wheels for FM series, and controllers for FH series. I don’t feel there is enough there when trying to compete in the Horizon series…with the wheel I have.
Been racing on PC for years through Logitech DFGT, G27 and now the T300RS with T3PA pedals, compared to the logitech wheels the T300 is waaaaay better. Got 3 x 23inch monitors (upgrading to 27 inch 1440p 144Hz soon) on a Playseat triple monitor stand and a GTR GTA Racing Simulator frame with a Car seat fitted (wanted the height adjustment in the seat).
I know of one or two horror stories regarding Logitech’s “new” offerings, Only thing new is the use of Hall sensors (magnetic) over the optical in the G25&27 plus the new button layout. Things like dead wheels, global profiler removed from the software, incompatibility with most of your games library, Naff customer support for defective wheels…
One of those stories involved me sending my old G27 wheel and shifter to a friend in the US whose G920 failed, logitech refused/ignored any support request, the retailer refused a refund without the receipt…
Avoid Logitech imo…
Top Tip: If you ARE buying a wheel for the 1st time learn to use it in a new game or all the “Controller habits” will stay with you. e.g. In Grid 1 I couldn’t beat my PB times on controller with the wheel, Even after months of trying… I then played Dirt 3 from day 1 with the wheel, went back to Grid 1 after 3 months or so and SLAUGHTERED the controller times… Never looked back…
mainly wanted a wheel for horizon but not sure that its worth it for this type of game. But now that dirt 3 and showdown and grid 2 will support xbox one wheels with back compt I’m now thinking about getting the thrustmaster with shifter.
I saw that list of 11 or so wheels that will be in the game from the start, but will that be all? We are tight on money and wanted a Thrustmaster Ferrari 458 Spider wheel (XB1 version of course). Will that work for the game if played on Xbox One?
Bear mind that list is wheels that will be supported when playing Apex and Horizon 3 on PC - only XB1 compatible wheels will work for FH3 when playing on the XB1. Yes the 458 will work for FH3 onXB1.
I have the TX thrustmaster with the base pedals and an open wheeler seat. I just play for fun. It is like a hobby. If I win, cool if not, cool I am here to have fun. With that said I cant imagine playing without a wheel
I have had two of the Thrustmaster TX bases burn up… One took about 30 minutes of playtime, the other took a few days. I read horrible horrible reviews of them on Amazon, but still bought one. After the second one smoked, I said screw it and bought the Fanatec bundle. I have to say it is literally light years ahead of the Thrustmaster, and when it was working, it was fantastic… You may not be faster initially with the wheel, but stick with it, you’ll get the hang of it and I know I was running 5-7 or even more seconds faster a lap with the wheel. It’s insane how much it helps. I don’t personally enjoy the FH series with the wheel so much though, it’s almost better suited for chase cam honestly. I run the FM series with the bumper cam, it’s unplayable with a wheel in FH2.
