I’m not sure if I’m in the right place, but if not could someone direct me?
Anyhow… after playing FH3 everyday since it came out, I feel asif it’s time for me to get a steering wheel setup. I’ve seen online that there’s many to choose from, but I don’t want to go paying out a fair amount of money for a setup that isn’t that good. I have gotten the idea that thrustmaster is the best way to go about this, but I also know logitech is decent too.
But the problem with thrustmaster is that I can’t find any pedals which have a clutch that are compatible with the TMX wheel, as the TX wheel is fairly expensive but does come with a clutch pedal. And I’d prefer to have a clutch as it adds that bit more realism to the game.
So if anyone could tell me the setups they are running for Xbox One or any setups they would recommend, it would be of great help as I am a little stuck right now lol.
The tmx is compatible with the t3pa’s and t3pa pros both of which are 3 pedal setups. Its also compatible with the h shifter. You can get the tmx pro from gamestop it comes with the t3pa’s. The tmx is a good wheel but id suggest you splurge some more and get the tx.
I will also say and this is only my opinion, do not buy a wheel for forza especially not horizon 3 its atrocious. If you own multiple racing games then id say invest in a wheel, but you would just be wasting your money if forza the only racing game you own. A wheel setup is an expensive investment, you could have the most expensive rig in the world and it wouldnt make horizon 3 feel good.
I agree with this. Forza Motorsport has better force feedback and wheel support than Horizon, but even that is sub-par compared to games on PC. Two Xbox One games that have good/great FFB ,at least on PC, are Project Cars and Asseto Corsa. If the console implementations are the same, then those are worth it…but they’re a different breed of racing game than Forza. I just got a wheel recently and was in the same boat as you. I was going to get the TMX, until I found a steal on a used TX on Craigslist. You can get a TMX for $175 - $200 which isn’t a bad entry point, and is expandable with a shifter and upgraded pedals (unfortunately, the rim is not).
Sorry forgot to add - I’m in the UK so gamestop and craigslist isn’t a thing here lol. But I’m not really too keen on buying second hand because it’s a lot of money to lose if something goes wrong with it and I’m not about that.
I am tempted to just get the 458 italia wheel and then upgrade the pedals later, If i feel the need to.
I have read it’s possible to change the 458 rim, is this correct? If it is, then I might change the rim at a later date also.
Yes the tx 458’s rim and pedals can be upgraded. The tmx can only upgrade the pedals. The hshifter is compatible with both. After i bought the tx, i bought the wheel stand pro, than i got the hsifter like 3 months later, then when assetto came out i bought the t3pa pros and the 599 alcantra rim. So little by little you can upgrade as you see fit. I do recommend the wheel stand pro, its a simple well made quality stand.
Like i said, its an expensive investment but if you’ve been looking for a more immersion a good ffb wheel is the way to go. Thrustmaster is supposedly shaky on quality, i havent had any issues over the past 2 years, but for the price i think its the best option. Fanatecs have stronger ffb and a similiar ecosystem but your talking about at least double the price of entry.
This is getting rather long but one last piece of this pie is the games to go along with the wheel. Luckily for you there are a bunch to choose from at this point but ill give you what i think are the best for the wheel.
Assetto Corsa is number one for ffb but last when it comes to content and features id wait for a few months when it goes on sale. Its a full on driving simulator, great for hot laps not so much racing.
Pcars was a mess at launch but its gotten better theres many options to be had a decent amount of cars a great amount of tracks. The ffb once tuned properly theres many good setups to be found online is very good although tedious at times. Its more of a sim than forza motorsport expecially when it comes to racing options. Its a year old and can be found for a good price with all its dlc.
Dirt rally is a great game if your into rally games. The ffb is great, its a very challenging game but probably the most rewarding when you get it right. Its almost a year old and can be found for a relatively cheap price.
Forza motorsport 6 is a content rich game and is certainly playable with a wheel, its not the best when it come to ffb but on sheer content alone it cant be denied. Some cars do feel right others not so much. Its a little cheaper but not as cheap as dirt rally or pcars.
Horizon 3 is getting a patch for the ffb later today maybe it will fix some issues but maybe it wont, since you already own this you might as well try it with the wheel but like motorsport 6 it doesnt feel as natural as the others.
