Update 8 was all good for the short time it was running until the Hotfix 8.1 dropped and crashed the game every time you went back to the main menu.

The BMW 1 Series felt like a port from FM7

Had fun in the A Class Open in MP, that was about the highlight for the month and Update 8

The Ginetta was the one high point of the whole update. Too bad it was only used in one series and on MP race.

This time I did not play at all… just not enough interesting content. Just checked if they fixed paint vs. vinyls glossiness difference → not, closed the game…
Game feels like it is in somekind of limbo for SP, nothing major upgade is happening and game just stays boring… and FM series was my top favorite game years ago…

You chose wisely grasshopper.

1- we need more race cars.:slightly_smiling_face: add LMH & LMDH cars ASAP.
2- more QoL features like the tire wear multiplier are welcomed! for next time, we need radar.

I enjoyed the Ginetta and Elemental in the Tours. I did not enjoy the Caterham Tour.

The Caterham mirror placements were frustrating. I never could see the corner apex, or even traffic sometimes, to the right. If this was a kit car, there is no way I would willingly place my mirrors in such a location during construction. Anyway, I completed the events (as best I could), and moved on.

The Ginetta has very nice detail. But a few bugs.

  1. Almost zero engine sound from cockpit view.
  2. RPM LEDs on the steering wheel don’t adjust to match the new shift point after applying engine upgrades.
  3. After viewing the engine in the garage, backing out from the close-up engine view automatically closes the hood.

The BMW reward car was a bit disappointing. No opening hood, no engine. The interior felt like the surfaces had minimal texture detail. A fun drive, however.

The Porsche 935 reward car, nicely detailed. It’s detail, like the Ginetta’s, make the BMW reward car feel dated.

And as ever… I feel it’s a massive shame that these Tours are being removed from a racing game that has so little single player content.

With regard to the AI changes… I can race much closer to them now, than before. Still the brake lights come on in places they shouldn’t. Incidents of AI pushing and spinning my car are much reduced (but still can happen).

But AI work remains. The AI will very often just leave the track (or drive straight into walls). They never really challenge me much, even often refusing to pass when I make a mistake.

I would suggest not being hesitant about programming the AI to pass me when I’ve made a mistake. The worst that will result is me finishing lower. And why is my repeating the race trying for a better result bad? My spending more time in the game is good, right?

My finishing lower due to my own mistakes, and then trying again and doing better is, for me… highly motivating and naturally engaging.

A.I is better but needs more improvement.

Almost all races too short except 17 minute around races in Multiplayer. Including career races.

I think that BMW not a good choice for being a reward car. Better we get Porsche GT3RS 2024… Most waiting car by Porsche fans rn. Why a old non iconic cayman GTS instead of 2024 GT3RS with DRS feature? Don’t forget about DRS feature when you added GT3RS.

Multiplayer matchmaking needs more improvement. Not good but better than before I guess.

Penalties still garbage. Getting worse with every update I guess. A big fix needed.

More Le Mans specs for Multiplayer and Career.

Numbers disappearing from gauge sometimes again. Needs a fix.

Game turns to 60Hz while I’m in 120 in XSX. Happens on every practice/qualifying/race start. I have to press home menu on controller. Not even pause button.

Man the Caterham handled terribly. What an awful car.

AI is better but still needs a lot more. They still can’t drive off the main line or near the player.

As usual, I don’t do the Single Player content (AI can’t match the dynamism of a human opponent) so no opinion on those.

My Club was primarily in slower Featured Multiplayer series this month, where the racing was generally quite good. Specifically we raced in:

  • Ginetta G40 Junior Spotlight
  • Mazda Miata Spec
  • D-Class Open
  • C-Class Open (tonight)

My one concern was the scheduling, as noted here:

Tyre wear multiplier in Private Multiplayer is an excellent addition, but more needs to be done for Private Multiplayer racing to be viable:

  • Ability to apply and limit players to Spec Series builds
  • Ability to lock all drivers to the same car/tune as the host (or for players to “borrow leader’s car” like in Horizon)
  • Ability to host practice and qualifying
  • Ability to set rolling starts

Agreed, the Ginetta is an excellent addition and that Spotlight Series was a ton of fun.

“Slow racing” can be great in Forza as the racing tends to be cleaner.

Instability of server connection prevents me from enjoying the game. It became too risky to get in practice in Open Class Tour. I used to spend way longer in practice sessions than in racing. Unfortunately, some crashes and lots of server connection issues pushed me to Skip Practice. In addition, I avoided replaying OTC.

The server disconnect was always there since launch. But since update 6 it occurs more frequently.

Something that i don’t understand: Why not re-draw the limits just on that part of the track on mid-ohio instead of slapping the concrete wall? Actually i do and the answer is time.

So… since the racetracks weren’t actually build from the ground up why not at least try and mitigate some of these mistakes where you can? Instead you’ve made it worse by placing a wall where there isn’t one. Might seem like a small issue but then we have players being very vocal about inaccuracies and the artistic approach with the environments. (raceflags, trees ect…)

On one hand you’re updating maple valey with some actual branded ads, improving the asthetics. And on the other hand you’re messing up with mid-ohio, ruinning the asthetic and the more “grounded” approach, which players do care about. But do they? Because i see 0 complaints about this particular issue. I mean if you want accuracy, demand accuracy.

Btw: Why place a bunch of trees where in real life there aren’t any at a specific spot? Okay you’d say that’s the artistic approach. But also more trees = more things that need to be rendered right?

Why not place less and improve the performance? And use that extra bit of needed optimizations on other parts of the map instead? For example i could go onto the Nurburgring Nordschleife and see many areas where there aren’t any shadows being casted. (on the sidetrack enviroments) And that’s just from a surface level observation.

About safety and skill rating:

I was at S rank. Falled into A. Played a bunch of races. One time i got a 4 seconds penalty as i was trying to avoid an accident. The thing is: i opened and closed the menu in order to get ghosted and avoid the collusion and i did avoid it, but i still received the penalty.

At some point i do another event, i got a 1 sec penalty and after the race i was thrown into B safety rating. Then i did another race and i got back to A safety rating. So wasn’t it the system supposed to take double the amount of races played before a new rating is established? Then why am i so easily loosing and gaining back my rank? Lack of players or something to do with the system itself?

Sadly, I’m disappointed with Update 8. I expected more features and content from update we’ve waited five weeks for.

AI is better, yes, but only slightly. While traffic jams at some corners are finally gone, opponents still regulary brake where they shouldn’t, mainly because of their frustrating inability to overtake anything on straights. Also they still happen to ram others (especially player’s car) too often.

New cars are a mixed bag. Ginetta turned out to be surprisingly fun (minus the very quiet engine sound in cockpit view). Recycled BMW 1M as a reward car is a mistake. Porsche Cayman GTS seems totally redundant since we already have the 718 Cayman GTS (and 718 Cayman GT4 RS). Elemental Rp1 is a nice addition but Forza Horizon 5 has many more requested modern cars to be brought from. And Porsche 935 is something I want to drive badly but still have some races to complete before I can finally get it.

As for other changes in the update, I don’t really care about them, although I appreciate adding tire wear settings to Free Play. And perhaps I’ll try multiplayer again when improved matchmaking will be matched with improved FRR.

Anyway, I hoped that modest Update 8 could be something like calm before the storm, as release date of Update 9 was lined with Xbox Games Showcase… but I guess I’m expecting too much since Forza wasn’t featured in the show at all

P.S. Did I miss the feedback thread for Update 7 somewhere? Because I wanted to write there how disappointed and frustrated I was with inability to use the Nissan Silvia I payed for in Retro Racer Tour…

Mid Ohio is new to FM8, so it was built from the ground up, rather than ported. However, that’s even less of an excuse for such a basic mistake.

Seeing how long it took to implement this change, I’m not optimistic that any meaningful improvements are forthcoming, though if they somehow turn things around I will be delighted.

The BMW Onesie was the first car I got in FM5, so it’s at least that old.
