I’m rated 4999 since November 2023. It never dropped since then despite some attempts to bring it down by losing multiple races in a row. Safety Rating is constantly switching between A and S.
Been S 4999 for a while now. I reckon it’s easier than ever to hit 4999 based on the fact that I’m usually matched with low level players.
When I matched with other similar level players, who have most likely moved on, I struggled to hit 4999 I mostly hovered around 4997-4998.
Might sound weird but I finished 3rd in a Porsche multiclass race at Sebring earlier and it was refreshing to have a battle on my hands even though I ended up losing by some margin.
Usually sitting at S/4999.
Occasionally drop to A/4995 but end up back at S/4999 after a few races.
Almost never get Collision penalties on-track, and rarely get Track Limit penalties (usually at +0.00 or under +1.00 in most races).
Ditto to every single experience here, including that last bit.
Love that lobbies have been full lately; hate how mismatched the matchmaking’s been.
The battles have been way less frequent and the player drop off has never been worse. I imagine newer players get frustrated when they’re paired up with veterans. It’s not fair to either party.
I would rather have consistent races where I’m battling for a top 5 finish than get fed with low level players that devolve into slow-moving obstacles in what becomes a solo hotlapling session.
Used to bounced around 4996-4998, now it’s just pegged at 4999 while hovering back and forth between A-S based on the occasional bogus penalty.
Last year I hit S4999 and stayed there, but this year I’ve decided to switch to racing with a wheel (previously only in private mp and rivals) and with it a switch to cockpit view (was chase far). This dropped me to S4995 with an occasional A4993.
Still getting better with the wheel. I know where to gain time, I just need to actually do it.
Small sample size, but 82% above 4900, half of those at cap, 9% below 4500, and 9% from 4500 to 4899. No wonder matchmaking doesn’t match well. It’s what i expected actually. We do know it’s not entirely representative. Forum goes well likely tend be be better at the game than those that don’t. But still, you’d expect a wider gap. You’d expect at most a few people above 4900, no one at 4999 or 4998 unless they were literally considered the best player in the game.
We should also consider the fact that if one is dedicated enough to be posting on a game-specific forum (especially in “current year” when web forums are an ancient social media relic) that they’re likely hardcore enough to be in a higher skill range by default.
This poll would get very different results if Turn 10 posted it as an Instagram Story.
If you had done the same poll on FH4 (the last Forza I think which had a similar ranking system) it would have looked very different and more realistic though.
I recall doing some analysis at some stage and the vast majority of players were at around 3,000 points (with the number of players at 4,850+ (Grandmaster level in that game) being tiny. No one was at 4,999 in Free For All.
This system has clearly been designed to be very easy to hit high rankings with a little bit of effort. It’s not a genuine attempt to put in place an accurate ranking system. Whilst you might find the results would be lower on other social media, I suspect that they would still mainly be much higher than might be expected based on relative results.
That a single race can raise you several hundred points for merely completing it (e.g. C/2500 to A/3500) or lose points for winning it outright, this system is and will always remain fundamentally broken for the purpose it is meant to serve.
Found a rare sub-4000 score in the wild.
Saw some bloke on Twitch with ~3100, he was my record holder until now…
I checked my rating last night and I’m at 4979, I’d say the ratings are definitely inflated. I wouldn’t consider myself to be fast in FM8 at all (especially so after looking at Rivals times). I haven’t even bothered to tune any cars or download any setups.
But I’ve pretty much stuck to playing spec series, with medium, long and endurance races. I haven’t quit out of any races, so I suppose that helps keep my rating up, particularly so when other people quit long races.
It’s not uncommon for games to have an external and internal rating for matchmaking purposes. I don’t know if FM8 works like that.
