every time I start the game it optimizes shaders for 12 minutes, at the same time it tries to log in to xbox network, after mostly 6 retries it logs in. after that it always says I have no internet connection ( even though I got logged in ). But optimizing shaders everytime I start the game for 12 minutes is horrible, when I finally get in it works decent even though I am on potato PC. mostly medium settings getting between 30-50 fps @1920x1080. a few crashes here and there.
PC game pass
i5 10400f, Geforce GTX 1650 4GB, 16GB DDR4 3200mhz, m.2 drive, Win 11
I have the Steam Premium version.
Load up FM > Optimizing shaders… … … … … … … … > about 10mins later the game loads and runs smooth.
but the initial load time is shocking…
Once the shader load was a mear 30-40 secnds, but ONCE… all other game boots are now around 10mins…
the Graphics card isnt the issue, my friend has the same OS as me & the same GPU with the same Driver version (& ingame benchmark scores within the margain of error ie: +/-1), ram is also the same amount (16GB) the only difference in our systems is the CPU, which mine is more powerful and newer than his… - 8mins for me to boot, 1min for him - Thats 100% a software issue not hardware
the game runs when it starts, between 30-50 fps. But now it wont start at all. I will try and enable the high res textures and see if it goes back to working
I can’t imagine that this is because of a low performance GPU, I have the issue with a 4080… PC with 64GB Ram, etc. Game on SSD… definitely the HW on the upper end. Also newest NVIDIA driver, etc…
Still, 10’ wainting each start of the Game: Optimizing Shaders…
I have the same issue on AMD 7900 XTX. So it not just nvidia. Though mine didnt start until after i updated to the newest drivers. 1st day it was fine, but i felt raytracing looked terrible so i updated drivers. Now it does shaders on esch startup. Annoying, but raytracing is better.
I’m having the same issue now, but I didnt always have it. I recently updated my drivers for my 7800xt from .3 to 10.1 and now I’ve seen the optimizing shaders screen for the last 3 times I’ve started the game. Before the move to the latest drivers, it happened only once on the games first launch.
Same thing with an AMD RX6750XT (driver 23.10.1). I’ve not timed it, but it’s much quicker for me than the ~10 minutes reported by some, possibly around 1-2 minutes. It does seem to make full use of threads, thankfully, pushing all 16 cores of my Ryzen 5950X to 100% (looking at Task Manager on a second monitor, it seems to be a CPU task rather than a GPU task when it’s optimising shaders).
Other details which could be relevant: Windows 11 Pro 22H2 (October 2023 patches installed), running the game from the PC Xbox app with PC Game Pass.
Looks like this is a known issue for AMD CPUs (I’m guessing that’s what they mean by “AMD machines”, since we have reports of it occurring on both AMD and Nvidia GPUs):
Graphics - AMD machines running the PC builds will perform the entire shader precompiling step at every launch. Faster machines should be done in a minute or so, but older machines can take several minutes. (Steam, WinStore) (1607128) (Date Updated: 10.04.23)
I do see some people mentioning Intel CPUs above, so maybe it’s more general than they think.
Rolling back 23.10.1 isn’t an option for me, unfortunately. It fixes a long standing driver crash bug for 4K video playback. Around 2.5 minutes generating shaders is slightly annoying, but a complete driver crash that sometimes turned into a BSOD with 23.9.x and earlier is far worse.
Hopefully AMD and/or Forza devs figure it out quickly.
Same here, game was running fine on day one and now i need to optimize after every start and also have framedrops on some parts of tracks from 120 to below 50 lmao. Running a 6950xt and a 5800x3d with 32 gb ram.
It’s taking 5-10 mins for me every launch with a 9900k and RX 6750 XT and 32 gbd of ram. I have all updated drivers, it’s only the first week of launch so I’m hoping it gets better over time.
