After the first patch has arrived here are my current positive and negative thoughts about the game.
First I want to say that I am happy T10 has listened to VIP members about the gripes we had about the new VIP package.
The 4 cars and 1000000 credits is a nice start (I hope it is a start) from them to show that they do care about the loyal players.
So how about the game, I have to say I like it but there are a couple of design choises I do not really like or think could have been better.
Design choises:
-Lets get the loot boxes out of the way first, horrible, I hate it!
-The focus on collecting instead on racing. I dont really mind it but it is a shame that you cant DO anything with your collection. It would have been nice, for example, if you could
arrange your garage with you favourite cars (20 or so) and walk around it in forza vista style, would be even more fun if you could visit other players garages to view how they present their garage.
Maybe some would display their musslecars, others their supercars, forza cars or classic cars and some would have a more eclectic mix with nice paintjobs. That would make collecting way more fun
for me, finally getting that shiny new car to display in your garage! Well, just a thought and maybe not possible on current systems.
-Checkmarks in careermode, you only get a checkmark for a series if you have won all races, wich is a bit weird because they are presented in a tournament style, where you can win a series when not
finishing every race on the top step of the podium. Also, if you do want the checkmark after the series is complete and you have not won every single race you’ll have to race the complete series
again, you cant just drive the race you did not finish first. This is a twofolded issue for me, first it encourages you to play lower difficulty, secondly, and for me way more important, most races where
you get a very hardfought 2nd or 3rd palce after 20 laps of doorbanging racing are way more satisfying then that first place where you race the last 10 laps way in front of the field…
-I think the tarmac is a bit to dark. Here you can see the difference with PC2 https://www.gamereactor.eu/news/596113/Graphics+duel+Forza+7+vs+Project+Cars+2/
-I also think the garagespace in forza vista is a bit dark.
-I would like to feel a bit more the bumps and unevenness of the track in my steering wheel. (I am currently playing on xbox one with Thrustmaster TX)
-Cars…more then 700 of them…ok, that is nice, but for me, but all those behemoths like the Caddy Escalade, Hummers, stretch limo’s etc. I think they are fun for the Horizon series, but for a track race
game…same goes for MPV’s, minivans, buggys, Microcars etc. For me it would have been nicer if the focus was more on race cars from past and present (yes, they are in the game, but would have
been nice to have more of those!), sports, classic, one off’s and supercars. Quality over quantity!
I dont really buy a car simulator game to drive a mandatory race with a RZR 1000 offroad buggy through the centre of Rio (from only 6 events in the seeker catagory one of them is 4 races in this
“car”. That would be ok, if there were like 50 events per catagory. So whoever made the choise to make that one of the few career series, what were you thinking!)
-Damage. For me the damage sensitivity could have been a bit higher. Now, mostly a big shunt leaves you with a bit crumbled metal and a few scratches, but no structural damage that influence your car. Unless you crash really bad, that is.
-Assists. I think it is a (small) error to not reward driving with less assists on in Forza 7
-I would love flag and race rules implemented.
-No mechanical brakedowns or punctures.
-Replays. I never really like the Forza replays, not realistic enough, think the replays in PC1, PC2 en the gran turismo series are better.
-I would have liked to have seen (way) more real tracks. And the tracks that are in the game are to smooth in my opinion. Almost never you encounter a real bump in the road that unsettles your car
or forces you to take a different driving line or change you brake point.
-I feel Forza7 is a bit more (too) arcade then previous Forza’s. I think driving most cars on the limit is too easy. You dont get the feeling you have to fight for control, or that you are on the edge of a
sharp knife when driving on the limit. I understand T10 wants to serve as broad an audience as possible, but I think they went a bit to far here. I think the more sim racer on the spectrum gets less
satisfaction from driving in this game. Maybe add a “hardcore handling” option! (I drive with all driving aids off).
-Car behaviour. I dont feel there is enough difference or uniqueness between different cars. Most frontwheel cars understeer a bit, most rear wheel drive cars oversteer a bit, but they never really
stand out. I wish you could feel the difference between a golf 1 and golf 5 more, the difference in weight, lean, roll etc. I want a old Porsche or old Lambo to feel dangerous, like it trys to kill you if you
dont handle it correctly etc. Also the tyremodels between cars from different era’s should feel more unique. Old tires were way worse then the current tyres and again, you dont really feel that at all.
Bugs:
-Even after the update other cars in the race still look matte and I havent seen a single car in a race with a custom design. (Yes, I have the option switched on!) (spoke to soon, some cars have custom
liverys now!
-My PC version crashes to desktop mid-race. I am not 100% sure if this is due to Forza7 or some stupid windows background program. If the latter I have for the life of me no idea wich process
causes it!
-A couple of other bugs that have been signaled in other threads already.
-AI, not really a bug, but the Drivatar AI is not up to par so far. They dont make mistakes, and follow eachother like slot cars. Also they do not behave individually. If you are faster in a corner then one
AI car, you are faster in that corner then all AI cars. They dont show individual strengts and weakenesess. So you dont have to study the driver in front of you, just overtake him the same way you
overtook all other cars.
Positives:
Come on, it is still a awesome driving game! And it will get even better after a couple of patches! Is it better or worse en PC2? I dont know, it is hard to compare the games. Forza is a bit more (too?)casual, PC2 bit more (too?) hardcore. And GT Sport, well, love to try it, but I dont have a PS4 and my steering wheel only works with PC and Xbox, so spending that kind of money for one game on another system is not something I am going to do.
Feel free to comment on, bash, supplement, add to, etc. on my opinions and views!
