Now that we are closing in on the end of FH4 as the lead FH game, the worst aspect of FH4

IMO, is the trial.

Usually a series of races, in events with terrible course layouts that go from very fast long curvy roads into abrupt hairpins that of course the AI knows like the back of their hand, or the off road events which are generally terrible (worst in the game imo) if you aren’t prepared with the correct vehicle.

Combined with being force to play with people who largely seem to not understand that it is counter productive to wreck other players, or are just trolls wrecking people on purpose or finishing last on purpose and it for me, is by far, the part of the game I enjoy the least. It’s always very unfortunate when there is a car I actually want locked behind this garbage tier game mode.

And since I’m sure its in FH5, its the part I look forward to the least in the next game.

Edit : Forgot to mention, the always perfectly placed AI traffic that never impacts the AI racers, but is always in the perfect spot to screw players.

The Ai… not very realistic. Don’t allow for close races, either zoom off into the distance, or wait behind you at a distance. Make videos very boring when you are either on your own in the lead, or on your own behind a car that is impossible to catch up with. Ai move through barriers without collision detection, and when you get to a fence it is still there, and slows you down.

Ai needs the most work in FH5.

Agree on the trial.

Still don’t enjoy Playground Games. Just seems to be bore and a grid to get through to get the playlist reward.

Don’t even start me on the Eliminator or S7 High Stakes!

Unfortunately these are all going to be in FH5.

Well, they’ve tried to improve the trial experience for FH5 by only allowing people who have reached the Hall of Fame to enter it. We don’t yet know what the requirements for entering the HOF are but I guess it will mean at least a degree of experience playing the game.

I’d be very reluctant to lose this type of event from the trial though. We have to keep some events with some skill needed in the game and the majority of trials are ridiculously easy. The constant dumbing down because people find things a bit tricky is a problem for FH5, which will put a lot of better drivers off playing.

I disagree with the OP’s comments on the courses as well. These are relatively tricky courses but they are fun to drive in S2 cars. If you are struggling to match the AI because you don’t know where you are going, then practice them a couple of times beforehand. Why would you expect to beat unbeatable drivatars when you haven’t learnt the courses?

No the AI just outright cheat. I’ve seen them take corners at impossible speeds (in the same car I’m using no less). They door slam you off the road and don’t suffer the same traction loss on grass, they can miss checkpoints and carry on (I only just noticed this one last night, because I was deep in the pack when I’m usually at least in the top 5.

The courses have terrible “flow” if you like them, that just means you have odd tastes, but more power to you. Though admittedly, they probably wouldn’t be nearly as annoying if the AI couldn’t blast through some corners at impossible speed leading you to crash if you attempt to follow them through. Then on others they brake check mid corner.

Also doesn’t help that brake balance setting does nearly nothing. Set mine to 0% (I.E. 100% to the rear) and still understeer when I brake the same as if its set to 50/50.

I just tried the current one again, I was in 2nd going for the lead on the last bit, the rest of my team rounded out the bottom meaning I would lose anyway. Then the AI punted me off and made me miss a checkpoint by like 3 inches.

It doesn’t matter how “good” you get if your team mates aren’t equally as good. I’ve also been playing sim racing titles for 20 years, I’ve got wins from Gran turismo to Iracing, and Forza series since the very first Forza on Xbox. Even though I lean sim, Forza has always been one of my all time favorite driving series. However, the trials are trash, and I hate them.

And also, this isn’t to say every one of my team mates have been bad, but even if there are 6 of us that are good with all 5 being better than me, its still pure luck as to whether you make it past the AI without getting punted off and missing a checkpoint lol. I had one team mate who was blazing fast, was leading the majority of the race, he got a little wide once, the second place AI got to him, pushed him off right before a bridge and he dropped to dead last, through no fault of his own.

Maybe if the AI didn’t cheat, like I said, it wouldn’t be so irritating. But the AI is trash, and as a result, so is this game mode.

Edit, its also worth noting that if you practice and follow the correct racing lines, the game will spawn AI traffic in your path in what seems like every 3rd to 4th bend directly on either corner entry, the apex or exit, EXACTLY where your car should be positioned for maximum momentum around the bend.

Or my favorite just in this last attempt, an AI car parked sideways in the dark so you can’t see them until 20 feet away lol.

While we’re at it, tell me how I can practice more so this doesn’t happen https://imgur.com/a/HofLSU4

Barrier collision works the same way with AI as it does with players/friends. If you let a friend “someone in your party or convoy” get out ahead of you during any race, you’ll see that they also just drive right through rock walls and fences. But as you close the gap you’ll see they are busting through the same objects. On there screen just like yours, they have been slowed down by everything they hit just like you have. So the AI isn’t cheating!

That’s not the same, because you have two computers doing the calculations which is faster performance. One computer does not do collision detection over that distance in FH4. But as computers get faster they can start to have better Ai.

In no particular order:

  • The dancing and prancing, which often includes some sort of put down or ridicule of other players (by body actions) who lose, which seem to me to be contrary to the stated rules of the game.
  • Dolly dress up
  • Having to endure the cut scenes (even the first time, much less over and over)
  • Not being able to turn the music level as well as the game’s built in character voice levels to zero. The only sounds I want to hear are the sounds my car is making.
  • Not having the option to say “Hey, this is now like the 4th Horizon game I have played. I know how it works. Let me skip the intro ‘training session’”
  • The fact that the reward system requires at least some on line play if you want the top level rewards.
  • The constant updating, which not only takes time, but also more often than not, breaks more things than are fixed. How about giving us the option to say “I only want to play off line, no need to update anything…”
  • Doing very little about the cheating that started to creep into the game with the cross over to PC and only got worse when Steam became a thing.

#1 The scoring system for ranked was a complete disaster. Unfair and easily exploitable. Not one meaningful change was made after we begged and begged.
#2 Story mode with the radio blaring whatever awful music they choose (a pain to shut off every time) and characters that you would not shut up with endless useless non sense while you are trying to concentrate. Sorry some of us are older and don’t want to hear this stuff. No reason there wasn’t a way to disable characters talking and the radio completely from ever going on. I need to hear my engine.
#3 Server issues which were completely ignored. Unacceptable to have to sit there for 10+ minutes while it’s doing whatever the hell in between races. Steam seemed to be the cause and Turn staff just said nah we aren’t going to do anything AT ALL. Nice.
#4 Wrecking, especially in team based events because of a childish I must win attitude of many players. This was an obvious thing that was going to happen known to anyone who ever spent 2 minutes playing any Forza game in a multiplayer setting. Just a dumb idea to have teams.
#5 Locking cars behind menial repetitive tasks to force you to play something you had zero interest in.
I’m here to race or time attack. That’s all I am interested in. Horizon was originally envisioned as a casual arcade racing alternative to Motorsport. I obviously enjoy Motorsport more and liked Horizon as a way to just chill and relax when I get burned out on Motorsport. It has strayed far from that original premise and has become a frustrating mess for me due to the issues I listed. I am sure many like the many added things to do but it just isn’t what I’m looking for. There should be an option to buy added cars easily without resorting to an annoying AH or task even if they are very high priced or let my buy a week later in the auto show without having to do something I don’t want to do.
Last thing walls walls everywhere, more than in previous Horizon games that did little to prevent track extending and I do not think that was their purpose anyway. They said it was to help when the game first came out. Insane idea when wall bouncing was going on FOREVER in previous games.

Agree with all of this, hope you’re ready for more of the same? So many things could have been fixed or improved but were left, I doubt it’ll be any different in 5.

Unfortunately that is most likely the case.

If I need to, I just slow down the opposition to allow my teammates to catch up. Very rare I need to do that though as usually winning, combined with people quitting when they are doing badly and can see the team won’t win otherwise, works fine. Of course, if it got really tricky, you could just ask a few people on here to convoy with you.

I’ve always like the trials as a PvE experience, its nice to (supposedly!) race as a team against AI.
