No more reused models! (Or update all Forza 4 textures for Forza 6)

Today I just felt like comparing models from Forza 4 and Forza 5 and was shocked that some interior models were reused. Perhaps all the cars could of possibly been in Forza 5 if they just updated all the textures? Hopefully Forza 6 brings all those cars back or at least update the cars to have more polygon count.

Forza 5

Is that the view you use to drive the vehicle?

Either way, the updated textures look good enough to me.

Those two pictures are different from each other, not sure exactly what you’re getting at here?

All the cars in Forza 4 have the same polygon count. Forza 5 has updated textures. What I’m trying to say is why did they not update all Forza 4 car model textures and have them in the game. It sucks when a bulk of those cars are from Forza 4, brought into Forza 5 and then made into DLC.

The way I see it, if the cars details have improved as shown by your pics, I really don’t see an issue. DLC is of course optional.

“Built from the ground up” is the issue…

Nah. The issue is people wanting increased polygons for things like interior cover pieces in a racing game that is optimized for 60 FPS.

The issue is also Microsoft’s hardware flop. 720p Across a lot of games. Imagine what the game would look like if the hardware was better. That’s why I want Forza 6 to be on PC too. But I just don’t see that happening. BTW not just the interior cover pieces, but dashboards and the outside body too.

For the polygons it could still look high with low performance loss with tessellation. Heck some of the premium cars on [Rival Game] have that tessellation and look beautiful. Tessellation car list | Page 2 | GTPlanet

While what you say regarding the hardware is understandable, there is nothing that can be done about it now–especially nothing Turn 10 can control. Xbox One Forza titles, up to this point, run at 1080p and will be as rich in eye candy as the console will permit. If other developers are missing the mark, I venture to guess that is their issue if Turn 10 can make it happen.

As for Gran Turismo … do you not see the utter irony in that comparison and the thread you’ve created here? “No more reused models.” I shake my head.

You know it doesnt work like that.

Everything is a trade off. FM5 is a jagged mess, but atleast its 1080p/60.

FH2 has great IQ being 4xMSAA, but 30fps meh.
Has nothing to do with other devs.

I understand that but why couldn’t they bring all cars from Forza 4 into 5 if they used the same models? The only assumption I have is that they rushed it out and milked it in order to make Forza 6. I hope that Forza 6 will bring in the rest of those vehicles and improve on the problems they had with Forza 6.

As for the GT post you complelety missed the point. All I wanted to show was the technology they used. They are no better using sounds from GT1 and models from GT4.

All I’m saying is that Forza 6 better be the best damn Forza game.

Well, I can get on board with that notion. I sure hope it’s a great game for everyone.

the same reason Forza Horizon cars cant just be dumped into the Forza Motorsport or from Forza Motorsport to Forza Horizon , Forza 4 & Forza 5 use different graphics engines

Some models could really use a true rebuild however. The one that stands out for me is the 1970 Chevelle.

Here they are side by side:

From just a quick glance, several of the proportions are off. Front grille slanted wrong, front end not long enough, whatever’s going on with the roof from the door-back, the rear wheel looks like it’s angled the wrong way, and some unexplainable issue that makes the stance look too wide from certain angles.

Edit: Different real-life image at closer angle to game pic.

Everything under the car is the most glaring omission in my opinion. All the muscle cars in Forza… Well heck. All the cars in Forza that don’t have open wheels are missing their suspension parts. No leaf springs, no A-arms, no drive shafts, no nothing. I was hoping that this would at least get a reasonable facsimile in Forza 5, but nope. All we get are car shells magically floating over tires.

WOW. It’s awesome that none of the light that’s bouncing off the ground, is reflected at all on the car. That’s probably why the Chrome in Forza games don’t seem to be as bright at real chrome. Not enough reflected light to really make it shine.

The headlights look under sized. Maybe that is a side effect of the single light sourced chrome?

Where are the lenses for the Fog lights on the Forza model? I see the screw posts, but I don’t see the lenses. Weird.

The grille in the Forza model looks like it’s pointing downward, not sloped aggressively. Also the Forza model appears to have a plain looking egg crate grille, where the horizontal lines seem to be more emphasized on the real car.

Where the C pillar and the rear window meet just looks bad. I know the real car version in the comparison has a vinyl roof, but that offset is the same on non-vinyl roofed Chevelles. The Glass in the Forza model looks as if it is nearly flush with the C pillar.

The Front side markers (at the bottom of the car, in front of the wheel well) appear to be going straight down ward, making that panel jut out from behind the bumper. On the real car that area follows the curvature of the bumper.

There is a slight lip that turns upward on the trailing edge of the hood. Follow the panel gap on the hood and you’ll see it on the real car. That’s not there on the Forza model.

I see a few things wrong with comparing those 2 pictures

  1. lighting- the sun is in front of the real car & behind the FH2 car
  2. the FH2 car in the picture is closer to level and the real car is siting more nose up because of the pavement its on being sloped
  3. the FH2 picture was taken at a different angle

Yeah, it’s hard finding pics from Google images that are close (I don’t have FM5 or FH2 to take pics for a closer angle). I was able to find a better pic that is about as close as I can get.

The back end seems to get a little closer, but the roofline still doesn’t follow the doorframe like the actual car. Also, the rear-side window is almost flush to the body, unlike the real thing. The isue with the wheels must be due to them looking like 13" diameter with a 2" backspacing, though the rear wheel still looks weird to me. The front end also still looks slightly too short compared to the real car.

Exactly what I was thinking. Of course Turn 10 didn’t scrap the initial model and rebuild it from scratch. The quality, however, is clearly improved.

Let’s hope they then retexuturize all the remaining cars from Forza 4 and not make them DLC in Forza 6.

I disagree. The cars in FM4 looked great. Whether they were rebuilt with extra polys or not, the cars in FM5 look even better, and certainly good enough.
If Turn10 find performance optimisations, I would prefer them to go on adding in things like dynamic weather and time of day/night. Or the missing HUD elements like gap to car in front and behind. Or even more or better particle effects (smoke, sparks) etc, the stuff that adds immersion.

To get this stuff, I’d be happy for them to remove all the crowd stuff from the game. It’s nice to see something that looks lived in, but to be honest, it doesn’t affect gameplay and isn’t noticeable while racing. I also can’t and don’t count car polys while playing, and I race interior view.
