If you can’t race cleanly, maybe you should just play a different game. Horizon is nice and there are no dirty laptimes to be found. In a track racing game you RACE ON THE TRACK not thru the grass to cheese your way to a low time because you lack the skill to take a corner. Learn lines, practice apexes, drive clean and have fun.
I do think being in the slip stream shouldn’t make a lap dirty, and unlike corner cutting and rewind, it is part of racing IRL. Slipstreaming/ getting a tow or drafting as you Americans like to call it, doesn’t knock to much time off and its tricky to make work, so anyone that can should deserve a faster, non dirty lap.
In a land far far away, a time long forgotten, there was a miraculous game called FM2.
In this magical land of skill and money, people would boost slow cars, with missles to push them far beyond speeds they could achieve on their own.
These super magic cars would then set laptimes on class boards that were unnatural abominations, unable to be achieved by any good, natural, homologated species.
This is why drafting dirties a lap.
Cutting corners etc is obvious.
Everyone plays by the same rules.
OP, why cant you stay on the track like everyone else? It would make it more fun.
The only thing I don’t like about the current system is how something in the last sector of a lap can make the next lap dirty. It’s especially frustrating when it’s the rubbish AI that causes it and not you. Other than that leave it the way it is.
So the AI hitting me under braking somehow gives me an advantage on the next lap? Cutting the corner to gain more speed as you start the lap is one thing but contact (not being pushed by another player) with another car doesn’t help you at all. Especially when it happens well before the new lap.
Problem is if they try and let you do what you say then it will allow Veyrons to push minis to start a new lap. The more they try and fine tune the code the more someone will find a way to abuse it.
Sadly in the past we used to be able to say - why are you trying to set clean laps with AI on the track anyway. I know FM7 has a less complete rivals mode though so the question is a little less relevant now.
There are plenty of tracks were if taking unnatural/dirty line on the last sector would give you an advantage on the first sector of the next lap, hence the dirtying.
That has nothing to do with contact with another car.
eg The last chicane at Suzuka or Spa. If you get rear ended going into it (or simply make contact) you lose momentum and the correct line which makes you slower yet it counts as dirty. If you get hit and cut the corner then fair enough but if all it is is contact and no advantage is gained it shouldn’t dirty your next lap.
Except I’m talking about the AI in single player. If T10 knew how to program AI that doesn’t smash into you at every opportunity it wouldn’t be a problem but they can’t and it is.
I will admit that is annoying but not as annoying as having to do 2 clean laps in a row or most annoying of all just how did I get a dirty lap in the first place when on repay I find nothing at all. Im sure there use to be a littel symbol that let you know when you got the ditry lap so at least you had some idear of just what it was.
I just can’t stand when a car draft me a 1000ft away in the last sector and dirty the next lap. It could make or break starting position in the next race.
Other than that, the, system if perfectly fine.
Let’s say you’re in a race and someone behind you decides to cut the corner and ends up smashing into you. He goes on just fine while your doing doughnuts in the grass. Somehow I don’t believe you will message the guy saying " Hey, that was a lot of fun"
I just wish there was an option to make it more obvious when a lap is dirty. I’d like the game to make a sound or animate the dirty lap indicator somehow. I’m always upset when I’ve been making a good clean run and when I glance up at the lap timer I see the little dirty lap marker and think “How did that get there?!”
