dirty laps

i’ve noticed that when starting a lap after the first that the lap is starting dirty. i could be all by myself hitting nothing and no one behind me. why are the laps starting dirty?

If the last lap was dirty in the last sector, the next will be. Stops you cutting the last corner for more speed down start straight

thanks i got it now. i went back and tried again. they are still going up dirty. the only time they are starting clean is after lap 2.

Not nearly as annoying as getting dirtied when you lead but have some one in your wake, like your gonna gain any advantage buy someone else being in your slipstream

From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drafting_(aerodynamics)

“The low-pressure wake behind a group’s leading car reduces the aerodynamic resistance on the front of the trailing car allowing the second car to pull closer. As the second car nears the first it pushes high-pressure air forward so less fast-moving air hits the lead car’s spoiler. The result is less drag for both cars, allowing faster speeds”

Both leading and trailing cars benefit from drafting/slipstreaming.

You do. Drafting helps the trailing car most, but still helps the lead car a bit.

If you dirty your lap any time after the last time interval pops up you dirty the next lap with it. On some tracks there is a lot of track left when you hit that last time sector. In Forza 4 Lemans was terrible. The last time sector was before Arnage so you have to get through Arnage, the Porsche curves, the Ford chicane clean on the current lap to have any hop of getting a clean next lap. If you find that you have dirtied your lap in the last time sector, you can rewind to fix it and your next lap will then start clean still

I thought it was the last 3 corners you can’t dirty other wise it dirtys your next lap.

From what I can make out the dirty is taken after the last time check…

Dirty laps

I agree its a good idea to stop you cutting corners and driving into other people on track. What I don’t understand is how can you be on a clean lap then to pass another car with ‘perfect pass’ and then it tells you it’s a dirty lap… Doesn’t make sense. Why don’t they punish you for going off lap with time penalty like they used to do. (Am I thinking of grid?) Off the starting grid is more bull, you brake to avoid drivers in front, and then it becomes your fault when the drivers behind run into you, I’m not talking about multiplayer online, this is to often to be expected, I’m talking about single player. Sort it out. Another rushed out title or maybe those at turn 10 don’t race real cars, who knows. It looks fantastic but when I’m doing 150+ through eau rouge who care what it looks like, game play and consistency should come first. Oh and have they ever heard of inertia? Drivertars or what ever they are called carry lots, I sadly do not.

It moves forward with looks, not game play.

Its a shame.

If you are Hot Lapping you and dirty in last sector , rewind to before last sector , current lap will remain dirty but your next lap will start clean .
I try to let folks know about this as I spent the first 6 months of Forza 3 in ignorance of this . That was a lot of extra laps around the ring … Lol

Cheers !

You don’t have to go all the way back to the start of the sector - just rewind to before the point you messed up and the next lap will start clean. If you go off on the last corner for example, just rewind to before the off and take the corner cleanly.

I don’t think using the rewind should give you a clean lap either. If you use it on any lap that lap should be dirty. As for the driveavtars or what ever they are called. I couldnt agree more. Ive seen them go way off course and still keep up. Not only that ive had them brake check me down straightaways. They even have sides wiped me while trying to make a clean pass. They drive worse them some people in the public lobby

There is an issue on some tracks (Le Mans, Yas Marina) on which your time resets correctly but after two seconds your lap becomes dirty [even if you took your right the last corner]. I don’t know if it’s linked to the track or something else… But it happened 2 times until now.

You should try Indianapolis. On the Indy track you get a dirty lap, and slowed down immensely, coming towards the starting line one the last curve if you are on the pavement but over to the right a bit… Didn’t get fixed from FM4

I understand everything about the dirty laps except for why a lap may become dirty in the first straight away of the race or when it becomes dirty when you cross the start line for the first time. i know this happened in Forza 4 and maybe 3. I have tried everything from staying on line, not passing, and still it comes up 95% of the time. Any suggestions?

It is probably drafting/being drafted for the straight (if you are doing over 100mph/160kph and another car is close enough in line with your car you are drafting/being drafted - the distance varies depending on the car, slower boxy cars have a shorter distance and cars like the LMP cars will have a drafting effect at much greater distances).
When you cross the start finish line at the end of each lap, if you have dirtied your lap since the last split time (in other words in the last timing sector), your next lap will be dirty, it was implemented to stop cheating on lap times.
Best bet is to save a replay and put it up (any of the games will do) and let us know so we can see it. In playing all of the Forzas the only issue I have ever seen with the “dirty lap” is the inconsistent placement of the on/off track boundary (the New York track was one of the worst despite being walled in).

A dirty lap has no effect on the race at all - just the position your lap can attain on the leaderboards (which is moot if you are playing offline as the lap will not ever be a part of the leaderboards), there is no penalty and for those wanting truly good laps they will hot lap (yes I have plenty of top 1% times but they are hard to set in races and I can do so much better when hotlapping)

Can somebody tell me please how I can be given a dirty lap just for crossing the start finish line and why on hundreds of laps which I thought were clean I still get them shown as dirty. The racing is much dirtier on Forza 5 than I was used to on Forza 4 but I still find it hard to believe that in a 16 car race everybody got a DNF for what I can only think was for dirty laps and this is a regular occurrence please join my topic if this has happened to you. Cheers.

If you are racing and drafting or being drafted, that will cause a dirty lap. If you anything happens to dirty your lap in the last sector of a lap, the next lap is automatically dirty.

If you are trying to set lap times, I suggest you do that in rivals as you have no traffic to worry about and no drafting.

I don’t understand why drafting is dirty. I thought that was part of racing.
