The clean lap thing is confusing me now and quite annoying. Obviously on first corner we all have a bit of contact making etc but once cars are spread out a bit and you go onto lap 2 you get a dirty lap icon straight away… wtf. You’re going to start lap 3 now and after no contact no running off no rewinds on lap 2 you get yet another dirty lap icon… how on gods earth does that thing work out? I’ve had some 3 lap races where dirty lap on lap 1 but then number 2 goes so I can set a clean lap time…
It doesn’t penalize you, it stops cheaters from pushing or drafting each other for faster laps on the leaderboard. The only time you should be really concerned about clean laps is running rivals,
Very true - wish people would stop saying it is a penalty, it is just a way of keeping the leaderboards a level playing field. The system in FM2 on the other hand - that was a penalty system and it was pretty average at best.
No, it isn’t. Dirty laps don’t affect race results or winnings. It just affects leaderboard rankings, which isn’t a penalty. If it allowed you to draft without counting it as dirty, that is unfair to players who don’t have the same opportunities. I can run the same car as you with the same upgrade options and tuning options, but I’m not guaranteed a drafting partner for a whole lap, which is unfair. Drafting is an unfair advantage to leaderboard times. Drafting is fair in racing, but not for comparing lap times. It’s one thing if you’re five seconds faster than me because you’re better or set your car up better, but another thing if you’re five seconds faster because you had a partner.
The only thing a dirty lap does is prevent you from posting a higher time on the Rivals leaderboard. It has no effect in the hopper races. Only time it would have a effect on a race is if you set the winner to best lap instead of position in a private lobby. Which unless you turn off collisions would be dumb.
It’s the same thing for the “time penalties” in FM2. They only affected leaderboard times, not race results. So either both aren’t penalties, or both are penalties.
People who cut corners, “rub” others for advantage in the online racing are not going for time as we do in the career events (beside placement). Online equals final positioning, not who has the best legal time.
As has been said, and has been true for the last several versions of Forza Motorsport, a certified lap (no cutting, wall-riding, etc.) is ranked higher on the Leaderboard than a quick lap with is de-certified. It doesn’t matter if we run a lap two or three seconds faster than our best clean lap, only the certified lap counts.
