Ooooh, im surprised that they havnt done something with oculus yet considering their partnership vr cinema was a bit of a wasted effort imo

I know some people like it but the cost of VR hardware is too high for 95% of the gaming market. Some companies like Bethesda seem to be spending a disproportionate amount of development dollars investing in VR. Even if VR were cheap I’m not convinced I’d be spending a lot of time using it.

Oculus with Touch controllers is now $399.

The headsets MS is referring to (their own + acer etc) are to be $299, and have inside out tracking (so no basestations required for room scale.)
Microsoft’s $300 Windows VR headsets: 6 things we know (and 1 big question)

With reprojection, baseline fps is 45. (you still want to hit 90, but if you cant, less of an issue)
Once foveated rendering comes along, then that min spec req will drop again.

I want all the things in VR. Triples dont come close to VR. Laguna seca’s corkscrew is a hell of a drop

That’s still pretty expensive. The VR set is more than the console in most cases unless you’re getting the Xbox One X.

eh. There were a number of people on this very forum that would buy 3 xboxes, 3 copies of the game, 3 tv’s and a fanatec setup… But you reckon 399$ is too much. OK…

Pfft! 3 of each. I had 4… Yup, I spent $500 for a rear view mirror. And I would do it all over again… and again. I miss my quad screen Forza 4 setup.

As is almost every wheel on the market, we spend that much on the hardware for one reason, immersion and the immersion you get from VR in a racing game is phenomenal, it seriously cannot be described, only experienced

Well if you look it by comparing the cost of a decent pc monitor or triple screen setup it’s pretty reasonable

True but how many people run triple screen or can float that? I’ve never known anyone personally. I’m not sure about Xbox One but on the 360 didn’t you have to run multiple consoles to power multiple screens or am I thinking of a different system? I’ve never had a PC capable of pushing triple screens at decent resolution.

I myself am planning on upgrading to a 4K 65 inch with the Xbox One X and had hopes of the Xbox One X being able to do VR as I would have been all over it!
It still may come but I would be purchasing it pretty much solely for my racing games as I would love to have the cockpit veiw where I can check my blind spots and see all the mirrors without having to toggle my joystick to see this. With my Fanatec racing rig, VR would be really immersive and a blast to use

I wouldn’t count on anything very soon. From most of what I’ve read about VR, people in the industry seem to feel that true acceptance and usage of VR on a widespread basis is still a few years off. For the most part, they seem to be still trying to iron things out with the hardware and developers are still trying to figure out the best ways to present VR and make it usable, fun and easy to access. The next big tech wave that’s going to hit is 4K … then maybe on down the line some more, they will have figured out how to do VR and make it easy to use and work with. That’s why none of the big AAA developers (save maybe Bethesda) are really talking about or working on VR … they’re more concerned with 4K right now. It’s easier to build for and easier to access by the public and is in much more demand by the public than VR is.

I wouldn’t spend a dime on VR that didn’t feature eye tracking.

With only motion tracking it’s not good, not good at all.

Eye tracking support is coming to the HTC Vive - here’s what you should know!

Still standing by my assessment of roughly 2 - 3 years before mainstream hits proper.

Eye tracking could transform gaming - it’s what the Kinect should have become (but that’s another story)

I’d agree with your 2-3 years. Kit can be had now for 6 or 700 bucks so if it takes off we should see maybe $300 in a couple of years but more importantly, lots of lovely support.

Vive is still $799US.

Oculus with touch controllers is now $399US.

MS, acer etc when launch will be $299. Probably around sept - dec we’ll see them pop up for win10 machines. Xbox One X wont support VR (yet).

Imo you don’t need eye tracking in a racing game, sure it would add that extra level but for me it’s not necessary. I had a friend that was very VERY sceptical of VR, we had a gathering and I got all my friends to try it out, and the guy that was so sceptical and showed alot of negativity to it quickly changed his tune as soon as he put the headset on.

The only thing that I think is lacking in the VR department atm is the clarity, the resolution is not quite high enough but the trade of of clarity vs full 3D, depth perception and spacial awareness is a pretty good advantage to have when racing.

Windows Mixed Reality headsets will contribute to bringing down the price point of VR. The new headsets will be around $399 which is a much better price to start at than Oculus Rift or Vive. I think Phil Spencer and the Xbox team are waiting for this concept to be more affordable and accessible before standing behind it with full force. The Xbox One X console will be powerful enough to support this kind of gaming and I’m sure it will be compatible with these headsets. But I don’t expect it to materialize until late next year. Maybe the 2018 fall lineup will support VR, Forza Horizon 4 or maybe an extension to Forza 7. First-party studios are obviously experimenting with the technology, we’ll just have to wait more until it becomes a reality. Which might be a bad strategy or not (given how Sony is already breaking ground with PSVR), I don’t know.

^MS has already said no AR/VR on the Xbox on X. This may change, as of now its PC only for MS currently.

Pretty sure that they never said no… only “nothing to announce at this time”
