VR support in Forza PC games

I realize that Apex is a scaled back version of Forza, but I am excited to have my favorite racing franchise come to the best platform. I am not expecting VR support in Forza Apex, but are we going to get VR support in games like FH3, FM7, etc.? I am getting an Oculus Rift soon and I have a feeling it is going to be hard to play Forza games with a standard monitor/TV setup when I can play games like Project Cars and Assetto Corsa in VR. I feel VR support is very important for racing games going forward and the dev team should make it a priority to add VR support into the Forza games.

VR in Forza has been a wet dream since before Oculus Rift was even in Kickstarter. However, the possibility has been very slim due to the limitations of consoles. Though Forza coming to PC is both exciting and disappointing, I must say that now I can totally see VR-support becoming a reality.

The dev team must be excited for VR. They incorporated the head tracking with Kinect and VR makes a lot more sense. Long time rival Gran Turismo will also be supporting VR. So, it would be silly for them not to support VR at least on PC.

Well Turn 10’s vision for forza Vista makes way more sense on a HMD than a Kinect, and With oculus and win 10 partnership I think it could likely happen. Racing games have really been right at the front of VR so far as it’s a very natural and comfortable experience.

As somebody that tried VR for the first time the other night, I can say it is very much needed. I was so fully immersed with the Oculus Samsung Gear. I really do want to get one now badly. For first person perspective games it is a really great feeling.

I’m usually very skeptical of VR and adding it to current styles of games (example - FPS should not be VR: the neck strain would be too much), but adding VR to racing games seems like that almost perfect use for VR. Doing each turn, your natural slight head movements left/right to get a good view of the corner make sense now. If you’re passing, you can look over to see if you’re clear or not. I like the idea very much!

What’s a proper time line you think: 3 years?

As a true fantasy of mine, I’d love to have the in game divers heads mimic where the driver is looking. Say you’re having an all-out drag race with someone down a straight…you look over at their car to see if you’re pulling ahead or not and through the windows of your cars you see the drivers head turn and look at you. GAME ON!!!

Time is now…

As for Forza, who knows.

Project cars, Assetto corsa, iracing etc all support VR and have done so for quite some time.

That mixed reality video looks so funny. It is like a low budget special effects movie. I love how the wheel is floating around. hehe

I am happy with just having accurate movement of my virtual arms and wheel in the game. This is something that Turn 10 needs to work on. They need to integrate full 900 degree wheel rotation into the cockpit view. Forza’s 180 degree wheel rotation is already a huge letdown in cockpit view on a regular TV. It would totally break immersion in VR. AC and PCars already have this working. Time for Forza to catch up. The 30fps refresh for the mirrors is painful as well.

Well, i really hope and looking forward that beside wide screen we get Oculus Rift support on PC. It would be really stunning to enjoy the beatifully created panorama within virtual reality.

I do hope it happens at some point, probably not with Horizon 3 though considering release is right atound the corner. I did play plenty of Project CARS in my Rift paired with my Thrustmaster rig and it’s absolutely insane, especially in first person POV. There isn’t any reason why Forza shouldn’t do this. I’m going to guess if Scorpio launches with console VR support, PC users will get it too.

The question is though, how much work is needed to support VR in a title running on UWP? I imagine there would be alot

I think they will not add VR until at less FM7.
