After reading about how the PS4 version of Project Cars will be one of the first games to use Sony’s upcoming VR headset it got me wondering if there might be plans to bring VR to Forza. I’ve read that MS has been working on their own VR for awhile now but I’ve yet to hear anything definite. I’m super stoked for VR and for Project Cars. Plus I think that just having Project Cars out there also on XBOX One as competition will mean good things for Forza as well. I just hope the MS VR is on it’s way because if the PS4 version of PCars is the only one with VR capabilities that’d probably be the tipping point for me to pick up a PS4. The future is looking awesome for racing game fans. Hopefully that Horizon 2 announcement isn’t far off either.
no thank you. I don’t think VR is important enough for that to be done. VR will come and die just like 3D did. overhyped fad is all it will be.
Xbox now says VR may be possible on the X1,i could care less myself.
vr headsets like occulose are a mistake. many people dont have 20 20 vision and the experience will not be a good one. and keeping your eyes focused one a single spot at a single distance that near to you face for long periods of time will cause eye problems for those who do have 20/20 vision. people usually only use it a few minuets at a time, extended wear will probably cause headaches. not sure how much they weigh but changing the center of gravity on your head is going to strain the muscles that anchor to the base of your skull even if just slightly. its going to be like holding your arms out to your sides. its easy at the start but your arms start feeling like they weigh a ton. those muscles are cramping are what start migraines, and if you’ve never had one you defiantly dont want to start. if you need straps and a harness to hold it to your head you dont really want it on your head. something helmet style would be better but even then many people are willing to bet their life not to wear those on cycles.
something like a dual google glass would be far superior but even then extended use is going to affect vision. your eyes are not designed for fixed focus. and if you make your eyes able to only properly focus a couple of inches in front of your face you are legally blind. eye muscles like all other muscles will atrophy with extended non use. dont do that to yourself. if you absolutly have ot have something like that get a big screen 3d tv. atleast your focus will be a minimum of a room width not two inches. and you’ll be focusing on other stuff in the room without even realizing it so you aren’t so fixed focus. even better…if you just must see what its like to drive in 3d…thats what you have a front door and a car for. the resolution is great and some say the textures are as close to life like as you can get. its photo real.
I’m stoked too about VR! I won’t buy a PS4 though, XB1 version of game is good enough for me. Hopefully MS has a VR headset in the works. Can’t wait for Project Cars! Forza needs some good competition. That’s good for gamers!
VR’s not going to be a fad this time. Screen tech is good enough and getting better. Sony has thrown some really nice EVF’s into their cameras over the past year. Totally changed my opinion of them. While not perfect, they are good enough for me to forget that I’m looking through one…and thats a camera which is cramming a lot of tech into a very small space. Translate that into a device whose output is that screen and I can only image what they can and will squeeze out of it. Either at release, or within the next year or two, its coming and going to be great, and not only for gaming. But thats for another thread, most likely not here Personally can’t wait… Forza would be incredible…I mean…no more blind spots, you can use your mirrors. Cockpit view suddenly is the place to be and with kinect possibly we can use hand signals (For good and/or evil…both potentially hilarious)
As for eyesight, Id imagine that the things could or would have a diopter…
Back to the point, VR is going to happen because its tailor made for Porn and for those of you following at home…we all know that Porn has decided the fate of technological advancement for the past…dunno 35years? give or take. Microsoft has been dead quiet about it ever since Sony surprised everyone and Facebook bought the Rift… I’m guessing Microsofts way behind and scrambling, unfortunately thats been their position since the whole cloud only thing went south for them. Really hope they turn it around and use Forza with their VR offering… While I enjoy the xbox quarterbacking the living room, particularly voice commands, if VR hits and they don’t have anything…well…it would be a bummer…
PS: don’t expect to hear much about it…I started a thread about this when Morpheus was released and it was graveyarded pretty quick…
VR on the Xbox is not likely because it will make the kinect obsolete. It would not make sense to have VR for microsoft.
Actually No. In fact the Kinect would be very beneficial to a VR add on. With VR the game will need to understand where you are, your motions, gestures, etc… within the game. As for the hardware not being up to the task, I believe, at least with morpheus, that there is a brick, which would be relatively close to you, that will provide the horsepower for upscaling etc. This is done to keep the weight from your head/neck, and will be necessary given the hardware on the PS4/XboxOne. Here’s the thing though, if you look at Microsofts patent filings over the past year, it seems as if they are way behind with a half baked attempt at google glass. Which is boggling as google glass isn’t the most popular thing in the world…and google…why would you compete apples to apples with google? one something which has been a veritable pr train wreck…when your microsoft…the epitome of pr train wrecks… I really hope Im wrong…really do. I’ve enjoyed the xbox and forza, but at the end of the day, if sony releases morpheus and microsoft is still nowhere it will be ebay time…
PS: From day 1 3D was understood to be a gimmick. Its just like 4k resolution…just a bump in the road…and a pretty quick one at that. I mean…mirrorless camera’s are shooting 4k right now… 8k cameras have been in the wild for a bit now… /shrug
pps: Told you this was going to get graveyarded quick…not inspiring confidence
Like the PS4 VR uses the PS Eye camera the MS VR would need the Kinect for its spa coal recognition. As far as the Kinect being obsolete though, it’s already taken a huge hit now that MS is selling the XBox 1 without it included.
I’m totally on board with ya. Forza with VR would be one of the stronger games to push the tech. anything with a cockpit and static head position would be incredibly immersive and racing games fit the bill perfectly. Just looking into corners, out the window to track fellow racers positions etc, would be fantastic. They’ve really got to nail it though, I loved the idea of a 3D TV but with ghosting, delays and other penalties like brightness and resolution limits it always felt half baked… I can’t get my head around purchasing a product that’s unfinished, as if I’m the beta tester for a good few thousand out of my pocket.
Only thing with the the XBO, and even the PS4 for that matter is that they aren’t powerful enough. Forza runs great right now, but games running in 3D need to render two separate view points. Most relatively powerful PCs struggle somewhat in 3D, and both consoles are grossly underpowered in regards to future proofing compared to PC. Fingers crossed they have a genius way of solving these issues but I’ll remain a sceptic till I see a final product that doesn’t resemble an expensive consumer prototype. If the XBO is generally being scaled down to 720p at the moment, it seems like a fair stretch to have it render even that twice
Stuff like this is starting to pop up…its coming…
