Know what’s more deflating (well, aside from the usual bugs etc)… being promised longer nights and not getting them, just more of the same short not dark “night” with a little more “dusk and dawn” (that is as bright as day) and having to wait through the usual 80% daytime to get the old 10% nighttime, and hearing people complain how it’s sooo long and sooo dark…
…all personal opinion on both sides of course, so, not faulting those who have problems with it, just pointing out there are two sides, and it’s STILL very heavily weighted to daytime. I sympathize with those who can’t stand night.
Of course there seems to be an even bigger issue (surprise surprise) in that the whole day/night thing seems inconsistent in both duration and cycle and darkness for different users. I even experienced what seemed to be a wide swing in the cycle in a single playthrough. Went from long daytime with short night into a short daytime and a short night, at which point I was done and annoyed at the garbage. But why should we still expect quality in this game at this point ?
Want to bet some horrendous bug is spawned by them “resetting” to the old day/night cycle ? One oddity I noticed that nobody has taken credit for… since the “longer” night was introduced I’ve been getting the daily free wheelspin for the castle… daily ! I know ! Totally shocked !
Not sure why the settings seem to be different for some over others.
I’ve been getting almost constant night events for the past two weeks. I agree it’s worse in the eliminator or such as you can’t see car drops properly for all the neon stuff in the foreground. You drive there to find nothing.
Would be better to have it on a seasonal setting - either local to users timezone or just to Mexico if that makes the programming simpler without giving more bugs and crashes.
At the moment - for me at least - it’s gone too far the other way from the previous almost constant daytime setting.
That was another bug fixed that was announced at the same time.
Also getting dailies more often now than before. It’s gone from 1 every couple of weeks, to a couple of times in the week, to currently (almost) daily.
Events are a separate issue. That’s a creative choice. I’m talking freeroam. I just assumed (yeah, that) everyone was referring to that, both the devs in promising longer night, and the players in complaining it is/isn’t/good/bad/etc/…
I also imagine Eliminator is based on freeroam day/night cycles. I have almost never had night in Eliminator since the beginning, and this past week was the same, 3 sessions iirc and all daytime. I think I have had only a couple, certainly a very small percentage, of night (all cases either rapid progression into day or one time was a dusk to night near the final showdown).
Totally agree, a user option slider or something would be the way to go. It’ll never happen of course.
It definitely seems to be a different thing for different users. Only just restarted on eliminators over the past couple of days as I was working through the RA missions. Done about 10 or so eliminators in that time and all entered so far have been night - even when the main freeroam was in day (often just at daybreak).
Never understood why things are different from some users over others. Just the Forza way I guess.
Headlights in general too. They don’t seem to do anything to add to being able to see down the road. Not even with a dozen rally lights covering the hood and roof. And they don’t seem to make oncoming traffic visible at anywhere near the distance they should. In short, like “night” they’re basically pointless.
sorry but anyone who thinks the eliminator is fun at night is an idiot. its just the worst experience you can have in a supposedly fun arcady racing game.
sounds like it might be worth me trying it; if no-one can see obstacles then my chances are probably higher - normally if there is a rock within 1 mile it’s just over a bump, out of sight, or a tree sprouts up in the middle of the desert right in front of me, or there’s an invisible bump no-one else experiences
lol ! I hear that ! Yeah, plus if everyone is dropping Eliminator because night is awful (not saying it isn’t, and I don’t think anyone did varunaX) then that might be an extra edge less competition and fewer pros
Thanks for the instant replay Missed that I guess.
They might have “night” like I do, hardly ever really dark Interesting that they have such long nights too, mine are never that long, and like I said almost never have them in Eliminator.
The randomness of it is so odd it’s almost like it’s non-random, like Player One gets short nights and only rarely as their default “random” cycle while Player Two gets long nights and often as their default “random” cycle. Like some bit was set the first time we all played and that’s what we’re stuck with.
well its all a mess, cause also darkness is different amongst all screens and players as well. like if im staring 2 inches at my mobile oled screen, its not too bad and kinda and bright. but when im 15 ft away from my 55 ft tv and its bright outside and im trying to find the purple smoke which pretty much blends perfectly into the dark blue\purple of the sky, i can barely see anything. then you gotta factor in hdr, tv brightness etc etc. its just the absolute worst for extended gameplay periods.
the best part of the night\day cycle in the eliminator is how excited youd be to see the sunrise coming while you are racing. i know the people who play regularly know that feeling im talking about. and now that feeling is gone
I’ll freely admit to not having played enough at night this update to have a truly objective review of it, and that’s on principles I’m not going to bring up here. That said, nighttime in Horizon 5 is something I could take or leave, and if I had the option, I’d leave it. Here’s the thing about the whole Neon-soaked Midnights theme - those usually work best with environments where the neon is everywhere and usually complemented with plenty of surfaces to reflect off of. Something like you’d find in a city, for instance.
I mean, I’m just saying.
While we’re on the subject, I want to pay a few compliments to the creators of two of the most recent EventLabs (I’ll have to get your names later). The courses that were put together were fun and visually interesting; it’s cool to drive past high-rises and urban areas and feel like you’re in a luxurious beach resort area and not just more rocks and trees. It makes me wonder what could be done with a little more…official effort.
It’s like the devs went “Here’s longer nights. Oh and your headlights don’t really make a difference. High beams you say? Don’t make us laugh. Or work.”
